    Thanks for this video. I do livestream with ProTools and even with delay compensation on I'd still get latency issues. What I didn't realise is that with livestream you'd have to actually turn delay compensation off by right clicking in the delay compensation section over where it says cmp and turn it off. You'll see cmp which is in green will turn blue. That fixed all my latency issues.

    the whole delay compensation issue in PT is very annoying. I think they set a limit because they don't want the program to feel too unresponsive, but I wish the limit of samples was a preference that could be set in the audio engine. this is not a thing in other DAWs...

    It might be also worth mentioning that Delay Compensation in PT is applied per-bus basis.
    I haven't been using PT for too long and I've just encountered an issue that took me some time to figure out, only because I'm used to other DAWs.
    I'm also working on a short film where I have different submixes for all the food groups. I have a very transient sound on a dialouge production track, routed to the DIA bus. A similar sound was done in Foley and routed to my SFX bus. Both transients are perfectly lined up according to the timeline and I was still experiencing flamming (probably I wouldn't even have noticed the latency if it wasn't for that transient sounds). When I moved one clip to a track that was routed to the same bus as the other clip, it was fine.
    Then I realised that there was some processor heavy plugins on one of my FX tracks' inserts, and all my other tracks that is routed to the SFX bus is compensating, but note those that are going to a different submix. Hence my submixes were out of sync.
    I'm not quite certain why PT works this way, there might be a good reason, I just don't see it yet, but it sure gave me some headache.

    When mixing, is it best to have the delay compensation engine set to long or short? I've always had it set to long in Protools 10 and get somewhat frequent errors during a track bounce. Also if you have Protools CPU usage limit set to 85% or higher, would that effect normal operations like mouse and external hard drive performance? If anyone reading this knows it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you very much ,so what to do if its an Aux? Record the track and time align it suppose?

    • @CatoNoise
      @CatoNoise  Před měsícem

      Yeah, that's one way to deal with it - route it to an audio track and record that (I would just keep the original tracks and make them inactive in case you want to rework it later). Or find a way to reduce the plugin usage. Some plugins will just eat up the available delay compensation though, so it's definitely warranted at times.

      did you ever find the answer to this?

    • @matthewsmith791

      It would be without the delay. Since you would have printed the effects of all your plug-ins onto your track, pro tools would simply be playing back audio with no additional processing and thus there wouldn’t be any delay

    Great Video on an important topic.
    What about compensation on Aux sends?
    My understanding is that PT doesn't compensate auxes for 'Key' inputs.(Like a kick triggering a compressor on the bass track).
    .....Except that PT HD actually does do this. ......And maybe a new update will??
    Can you clarify??

    Just a little advice for the RX because it is heavy into delay compes. I'm used to apply them through the audiosuite process. Also another trick is to give more RAM to the audio playback, if you have 32 GIGA you can easily go for 14/16 GIGA for the playback engine.

    • @kaylaelrod31

      Audiosuite in pro tools allows you to process in places the track or stem you wanna treat, in this way, you commit the RX processing straight and don't need to use it as an insert, of course first make a playlist of the track to save the raw version

    • @sgfdancecompany
      @sgfdancecompany Před rokem +1

      @@aliceswonderland7503 Yes of course ub the audio playback dialog at the bottom you have a tab dedicated to the RAM, you can address half of the RAM of your computer to get more power (if you have 32 gigas, put 16 and so on) Let me know
