    About:
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band’s first tour in 10 years ended with an emotional series of 10 concerts at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden. Live In New York City, featuring performances from the last two nights of that tour (chronicled partially in an Emmy Award-winning HBO special), captures “the heart-stopping, pants-dropping, house-rocking, earth-quaking, booty-shaking, love-making, legendary E Street Band” as Bruce and his blood brothers embarked on an exciting new musical chapter together. Now, for the first time, this magical program comes to CZcams in its entirety for fans new and old to experience.

I agree with "re-imagined"; it started as a Bruce-and-guitar folk song. In the subsequent 15 (?) years, and the iconic Madison Square Garden shows, he transformed it to up-tempo, full-band, full-vocals. The results are a revelation, a transcendence, an elevation; honoring, but not overshadowing, the origins of the song.

This version is transcendent, and overshadows the original, Nebraska, Bruce-and-acoustic-guitar, version. But that is as it should be. Same with Springsteen's concert versions of "Youngstown" and "Ghost of Tom Joad", surpassing the original album cuts. He had years to let the songs "mature",. and brought them back out as the full, magnificent, symphony-like masterpieces that they could have been, and really, always were.

I'm 56. Been listed since '75 when I was 8. Saw him live my first time in 1980 on Halloween night at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. My big brother who was 18 took me. I was 13. Changed my life.
I have seen him 20 times now. I had tickets to see him last year in Portland, Or. I got a little wasted and missed my flight. Swallowed around $5,000 tickets, hotel, flight. Ouch.
Was supposed to see him L.A. and through a huge mix-up missed both shows.
Making up my mind where to catch him on one of the remaining dates. Whether in the states or Europe?
I'm not fucking it up again this time.
I'll be on that hill cause I can't stop
Be on that hill with everything I got
      Where lives on the line
      Dreams are found and lost
I'll be there on time and I'll pay the cost for wanting things that can only be found in the darkness on the edge of town
      Amen.

The song depicts a young couple's escape to Atlantic City, New Jersey, but it also wrestles with the inevitability of death as the man in the relationship intends to take a job in organized crime upon arriving in the city. The opening lines of "Atlantic City" refer to mafia violence in nearby Philadelphia, with Springsteen singing: "Well, they blew up the chicken man in Philly last night/Now they blew up his house too." The phrase "chicken man" refers to Philadelphia crime family mafia boss Philip Testa, who was killed by a rival gang operator who planted a bomb in his Philadelphia house in March 1981. The song evokes the widespread uncertainty regarding gambling during its early years in Atlantic City and its promises to resurrect the city, as well as the young man's uncertainty about taking the less-than-savory job: "Everything dies, baby, that's a fact, but maybe everything that dies someday comes back.........Well maybe someday....

exactly We are all the Chicken Man. And our houses will eventually blow up too. But everyone dies, and that's a fact. Maybe everything that dies, someday comes back. That always reassures me somehow. This is why Bruce can legitimately be referred to unironcically as "The Boss" lol. He simply is

@@maxwellk10 I'm with ya Max!! But this song is directed at the gang wars in southern New Jersey & Philly in the early 80's, respectively. "They blew up the Chicken Man..." refers to the actual package-bomb that basically nuked Philip Testa(Philly Boss) after Angelo Bruno got whacked. And then it just got worse from there.
