But base on traditions, it is believed especially the first son will inherit most of parents assets and provide for their parents. Girls after marriage would be considered to belong to the husbands family and not her father’s family. I think the obsession with having son is that only boys have the right to inherit. So if you don’t have a son, your inheritance will be divided by your brothers, male cousins or even more distant relatives, even if you have daughters. This comes from only sons can pass your last name and only then, this is considered as your bloodline.

She is my favorite as well keeping things light-hearted no matter how F*cked-up things get! When watching this I thought "does she get bigger if she eats more?" and I was right I think her powers, like Marie's, are misunderstood which lead her to using them wrong. I think Cate’s switch is a lot more reasonable than you think. Before she killed Indira, it was shown that she stopped taking her medication and could now hear everyone else’s thoughts. She killed Indira because she knew Indira wanted to wipe out all of her friends and she couldn’t trust her friends anymore because they all felt like she was crazy. This paired into the fact that she has extreme guilt for manipulating all of them, she made a sudden move like that because she thinks she is going to make up for it all if she can make a world where her friends are safe. Yeah but in the last episode we find out that Emma can shrink without having to throw up after Sam talked her down so maybe what the writers were implying depending on how Emma views herself that's how her powers work as well. It may just boil down to how much self confidence Emma has towards herself when she vomits she may shrink because she thinks she is getting skinner and when she eats a ton she gets huge because she thinks all the food she is consuming is making herself fat.

Sam has a 1000 reasons to hate humans considering how pretty much every human he's ever come in contact with has literally tortured him, so it feels less sudden, and more like he always hated humans and seeing a bunch of other supes also hate them was all he needed to decide his hate was justified. And from there it just completely made sense to have this character despise the ppl who (while not all of them are entirely complicit) all had a part in maintaining his captivity, forcing Cate to wipe his and his brother's memories, and continuing to experiment on them albeit out of fear or convenience for the majority of his life at Godolkin. The idea that he would even hesitate when shown an alternative perspective on humans after what he's been subjected has to be some form of hubris, or just purely out of spite and the desire to survive something like that finale as a human lol.

I was really impressed with how the character of Andre represented chronic pain, something I myself began struggling with in college as well. He maintains a cool aloofness, but peering beyond that facade reveals that he is dealing with stress, anxiety, migraines, and brain fog--the subtle tics he showcases since the beginning of the show, which only become obvious after the reveal at the end, and his reliance on smoking weed as possible self-medication, were dead giveaways in my eyes.
It's a hard thing to pull off, and I honestly haven't seen a lot of media represent it as authentically and thoughtfully as in this show. Major props to Chance Perdomo because the subtlety of his performance is what I think really sells it--so glad to see him showing off his range as an actor!

Cate's arc mirrors Homelander's from the first season of The Boys: is an isolated and feared supe child > gets under Vought's influence with a meaningful manipulative "mother" figure (Stillwell/Shetty) > murders said figure > becomes radicalized
While Sam's arc mirrors Ryan's: an isolated superpowered child with no knowledge about the outer world > gets freed and sides with the main cast > forms a personal bond with one of the cast > is misguided to willingly choose the other party
Only their isolation circumstances are swapped, with Sam being imprisoned and experimented on in a facility and Cate being hidden from the world in her family house

One point of note: Jordan can only create the forcefield attack thingy when they are in female form. In male form their power is to absorb damage. It's why Brink shot them in the first episode and you saw Jordan switch from female to male before the bullet hit, and Brink commented on how fast their "draw" was
Which is I think another interesting deep dive into why their powers manifest in that specific way. Whether it's an allegory for the mental walls men often put up compared to the more outgoing nature of women.

    • @Whxyte
      @Whxyte Před 6 měsíci +186

I read it as them being born male so they revert back to being male as a defensive position, cause that's what their parents expect (this is also because of the episode regarding their parents). The trans allegory of having to be the most acceptable version of yourself in order to appeal or absorb people's backlash. I've also noticed that they're a lot more socially daring when in F!form (while it can be chalked up to the actors' acting decisions), perhaps because they're already in a location where they feel safe enough to not be defensive that they're more open.
The crux of this is that both these traits aren't inherently male or female, it's just Jordan, they're both.

Being groomed or brainwashed is not an adequate excuse to be a horrible person. Otherwise every person with a similar past would stray into a dark path but not all do. Because it's your choice and your conscience at the end of the day. They all became exposed to the evil of the school and chose to fight it and she did not. Granted she was manipulated but at the end of the day, following your conscience is up to you. She has so much power that could've immediately turned the tides but she chose not to. Marie and Emma had a complicated start to their friendship and I'm not sure Emma, with her very low self-esteem and Marie with her major trust issues, are ready to fully embrace each other's friendship yet. Jordan and Marie are in an awkward what are we stage. Jordan and Andrew are friendly but Jordan seems like they have never really valued actual, proper friendships. Andrew and Marie, as well as Andrew and Emma don't actually know each other, they are just strangers that needed each others help and the only bond they have is a trauma bond. Jordan and Emma have barely spoken. I think that's kind of the point tho? They just randomly ended up being in this thing together and have to collaborate to make it work, but outside of the current situation they are virtual strangers. They will probably become friends for real later on but rn they haven't had the chance.

@moxiemaxie3543 hey it's fair to be confused and I think that it speaks volumes you're open minded. It could be that OP is referring to some people in the dating scene that identify as straight (and some gay/lesbian) that view non-binary/gender queer people as a particular single, binary gender and inadvertently impose dating gender norms in relationships. Rather than their partner's identity outside of the binary or encompassing more than one gender - in this case represented very literally (and very well!) with Jordan. Dating in the LGBTQ community can be difficult and confusing at times, but from personal experience things are actually getting simpler when it comes to labelling identity - people are dating who they like rather than feeling the need to psychoanalyze their identity when they're attracted to someone outside their norm, and even in straight couples gender norms are becoming more flexible. For me, a queer woman in my late 20s, it feels a lot more liberating and accepting now than when I was in my teens/early 20s. But that's just me and I don't fault people who are new to the community and to queer identity

@@dreadwolfrising I wasn't even really talking about what others do - as someone who is transmasc nonbinary I find that there are regularly scenarios where I feel the need (whether entirely self imposed or out of assumptions over what others want from me) to present more or less as one gender than the other. When I go to the dentist for example I never tell them I'm trans/gnc because it's just easier. For a very long time I would act way more feminine in relationships (especially with cis men) then I was really comfortable with because I always assumed that's what would make them the most comfortable (and when I stopped doing this I noticed it get remarkably harder to form/keep romantic relationships). I think it's this decision making I see reflected really well in Jordan's character/their anxieties over their relationship with Marie (maybe it's similar to code switching if I had to connect it to something else)

And the thing I find impressive about the writing in this show and The Boys is that despite not being remotely subtle with its themes (usually the sign of a bad writer or rushed writing), it actually WORKS for these shows and I'm certain it's intentional. The thematic writing being on the nose adds to the unique atmospheres these shows have and works absolutely in their favor. I think they'd suffer if the writing was more thematically subtle. Though superheroes are a minority, they're the privileged minority, for all intents and purposes they're the white people of this universe, they aren't some underprivileged minority, they're the exact opposite, society WORSHIPS them and supremacist ideology among them is very much taking hold. Not that they themselves aren't exploited, under a Capitalist system everyone is a victim, but it is likewise that capitalist system that set them up to be gods to begin with, despite being victims of the system they're still the ones that come out on top in that system with regular humans having zero actual protection from them, as even the organizations meant to give humans some form of justice are themselves infiltrated by supes ensuring that no actual systemic change happens that could endanger their supremacy.
What this show actually did is present us with true heroes in the form of the main four cast members, who are actually attempting to be good people and help others, though imperfect and often misguided. It is Marie, Emma and the rest that are the actual argument against supe genocide, they are proof that supes can change and become better people, and even just be actual heroes in general, but goddamn do the rest not make this argument any easier to promote.

This series really shows the value in sometimes going against your gut. I do not like the original comics, but I love The Boys. I did not like the trailers for this spin-off, but I love what the showed turned out to be. I hear the ratings were a little bit mid for this season, so I really hope others who weren't vibing with the trailers/teasers change their mind and give it a shot. It's way better than than the promotional materials made it seem.

I have a theory they might use Sam as the new Black Noir since Homelander killed him.

I love how everyone started to think that Dean Shetty was the villain (although she kind of was, story-wise) but if we look at the bigger picture, Shetty is literally just another Billy Butcher. Yet then again, I would not say Billy is the hero in The Boys cause he's also a fckd up man, as much of a hypocrite as Homelander imo.

Jordan’s character hit me really deep. While they’re bigender, Im genderfluid/genderqueer, and I don’t like imposing myself and I have a cery feminine body with curvy bottoms, but back in my old uni everyone wanted to know each moment with me “which gender are you now” I always say she/he/they so it’s a le thing of how I feel and I’m indifferent to whether people call me girl or boy or whatever. And they always say I just want the attention or just say these to piss them off when they’re being considerate. My parents are okay with it, “you do you” vibe. But to them I just came out as pansexual and genderfluid because it’s mainstream. So many do that to the point where they doubt of me. “You’ve always been into boys.” I’d say yes and no (looking back what I felt for certain characters was legitimately a crush and I just never felt the need to say it, and there’s also the thing that I’d associate this with just finding this character cool.)
So Jordan really became my favorite character (and crush, both versions but London’s version had me relate and I just- wow!) alonng with Emma and Sam. My personality is very overwhelming and I give meaning to the phrase “I’m just autistic” as in what the hell am I doing but also really have autism. I am a giggly bitch and love passive chaos, am talkative when something I’m passionate about, but I also love solitude with animals, away from “bipedes” as my mom and I joke about people because of my social anxiety and awkwardness. That’s why Sam made me relate. Even Cate’s character felt relatable because of the seizures (I have epilepsy) and “reading people like an open book”.
The characters just feel deep and real. Not just one, but multiple.
To all of you who took the time to read this unnecessary yet comment. If for whatever reason you didn’t view this spin off series, I highly recommend it, it’s not your woke teen series- heck it’s pretty much the opposite, a satirical 16+ - 18+ series because of the subjects, how they are treated, and even play well with some of the annoying things with this generation and also the extreme conservative side, though they’re not the main aspects. But most importantly, watch The Boys before this! 10/10

love ur videos but honestly your opinion of Cate was soooo weird to me bc in my opinion she is such a amazing character and her motivations and descend to the dark side is really understandable and not to mention how strong her powers are they r like super strong and r still pretty much uncharted and not fully definable bc we only have been shown a weakened watered down version of it and there is still so much to discover of them bc she could be like Prof X or Emma Frost level strong power wise like she has been shown to have access to others minds without physical touch with telepathy😮honestly I love Gen V and I love Cate so fricking much bc it’s just all soo interesting to me can’t wait for more from the Boys Universe😊❤
