- Larry Brooks is a name you should know well if you have been a motocross and Supercross fan for any length of time. A former mini bike prodigy turned top 125 privateer, Brooks went on to manage several race teams, winning multiple Supercross Championships with the King himself, Jeremy McGrath. After taking some time away from the races, Brooks dipped his toe back into the water by managing the BarX Suzuki team last year before accepting an offer with the Progressive Insurance/Ecstar/Suzuki team for 2023. Only a few days into his new job, the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sign Ken Roczen came up, and suddenly, Brooks found himself again running a team with one of the most prolific riders in the sport! We caught up with him today at San Diego's Snapdragon Stadium.

So damn cool, Larry Brooks managing the Progressive Suzuki team!!...🤘🤘🤘🤘
You get such a nice vibe from the Suzuki team in the interviews. Wishing them well- it's going to be a super entertaining season!
Larry brooks is a legend! I'm rooting for the yellow bike, mabey this will make the oem open there eyes to innovation soon
They have been.the only thing it doesn't have is e-start.they are great bikes
LB is a legend.
Suzuki has been in my blood since I was 12 on my new 78 rm 80. Getting a new rmz 250 sun. I will be at Glendale in April routing for Ken here in Az
Larry is the perfect guy at the perfect time for the Suzuki program.
@@NeoMKRemember one thing. RC was riding a Suzuki when Roger Decoster was team manager and Suzuki gave 100% support to the team. H.E.P. Progressive team gets absolutely NO SUPPORT from Suzuki. It’s a small privateer team with a very limited budget and rely on it own modifications. I like Larry and Ken but it’s hard with no support from the big guy. In December when Suzuki announced closure of its racing website after 23 years and dropped its road racing program I think we need to read between the lines. It’s the beginning of the end. I started racing Suzuki when I was 13 in 9:29 1978 until 1996 ( 31 years old ) and I love the brand but I think the end is near. The bike hasn’t changed since 2018 ( maybe 2017) Suzuki isn’t putting a lot of time or money into developing a competitive motorcycle. Let’s cross are fingers and hope something changes.
@@motoxman541 Larry and Ken can probably get a better racing package together than Ricky, Roger, and a Manufacturer. In racing, small and nimble beats big and slow every day. The real trick is whether Ken has the juice and the stamina to get on the box.
Lol at you believing that… Ken is there because it was the only option and he’s not paying out of his own pocket to race.
MY history with motocross started when I was 4 ( 1969 ). I raced until I was 32 ( 1997 ) I work in product development as an engineer developing parts for motocross bikes ( all brands ). My job takes me to several supercross and motocross races every year. I truly don’t think Ken has the stamina to run out front an entire moto no matter who his manager is. Larry is a very talented and knowledgeable manager but it take more than that to make a good rider. Watching Ken last year was sad. He would start off like a rabbit and end like a turtle. Hell he even QUIT half way through the supercross season last year. He’s a man who is full of excuses. As far a Suzuki, it’s a dying breed. When Suzuki dropped it support for motocross in 2017 or 2018 can’t remember exact year and then at the end of 2022 dropped is road racing program. Suzuki also announced that after 23 years it discontinued its racing website. READ THE WRITING ON THE WALL. Suzuki is much more profitable in it car sale overseas and it marine sales than it motorcycles sales. It’s evident Suzuki hasn’t put much into R&D into its off-road bikes. The RMZ is old. Hasn’t had much in changes since 2017-2018. If they wanted to be competitive don’t you think something as little as a push-button start would have already be implemented??
@@motoxman541 as an engineer is a push button starter an end all he all? Or is it a keeping up with the Jones? Is an Aluminum perimeter frame an end all be all? The KTMHusquGasGas have steel frames that would be considered dinosaur technology, yet no one seems to point that out. So as an engineer, how truly advanced have motocross bikes become since 2018? That was the last true new model from Suzuki, so I start there. What groundbreaking technology advancements have been made in motocross bikes to warrant your comments?
Rooting for the whole progressive and twisted tea team!
Indeed!!
We need more good, top level teams, not less, after Geico and JGR went, and Troy Lee really downsized from the 250 only days.
And so good that this will keep Suzuki in the sport... and hopefully get Japan to finally put the e-start on it!
Pretty sure twisted tea dropped the team ahaha cause it used to be twisted tea Suzuki now it's progressive ex star Suzuki or whatever
@@dylanlevy2107 what’s so funny? HEP has two teams. Progressive insurance / ecstar Suzuki which is for Kenny and the 250 riders who can’t be sponsored by alcohol because they are underage. And then they have the twisted tea HEP Suzuki for chiz and Shane if I’m not mistaking.
he seems like a legit good dude
That was awesome. He's a really cool dude. Thanks for the interview
I remember LB from when i was riding bikes as a teenager. Good teaming up with KR. Im rooting for this guys.
Great interview Donn, can’t wait for tomorrow #94

If the bikes good enough for Scrub Daddy it's good enough for Kenny...

Great honest interview 👍😃
That was a good talk! Thanls for the Video and best luck
I loved this video ❤. A behind the scenes would be a great follow up video
The bike suits Kenny so much better than Honda. He’s going to win for sure that Suzuki is a ripper
You are loved good sir.... I hope you know it!! This thing goes good or mediocre it's a win. Going bad isn't an option.
4:12 behind Larry someone bought this flag right now !!! 😂😂😂
This is raw. LB tells no lies. 😂
More content like this please
I remember Larry Brooks when he was a little kid riding at Caulos in Monterey hills behind his house on his 79 YZ 80 I know his sister Janet 👍
That was great!
SMILE ///////// GOOD STUFF //// LARRY HAS GOT THIS
Another Great interview, Larry Brooks is a K@;@l Guy!
Damn lawyers and managers getting in the way of riders getting seat time!
Old kick start Kenny!!!! He’s looking good for only a month on the bike I’m sure they can get him dialed in with the extra week off
Oh for sure. He’s going to come out on fire this weekend.
@@RB-gj5to Yes he Did
Getting a whole new truck because Kenny is a Red Bull athlete just goes to show how much pull a sponsor like Red Bull has and how important sponsorship is.
Good luck with the season larry
Awesome, hope he wins a few
Larry is a former teammate of mine from R&D Racing in ScCal in the 70's/80's
Dude your gone be winning a lot in 2023 👍🏻😎
Go Brooks!!!
Outdoor season is going to be exciting!
Maybe the best part of this interview is the camera guy in background getting hammered by the flag!!!! Great interview though. That was just funny
The suzuki's are some of the cleanest bikes in the pits!! #Go-K Roc#94
Glad they got different team shirts. Those zipper ones at Anaheim were rough.
I want to know with the signing of ROCSEN and does the Suzuki plan on now updating their bikes
Wow, the main thing I got out of this is FLY + Roczen possibly in the future.
When he swapped to FC and was riding at Paris was mad
He's the right guy for job!
Hats off to Dustin. Dude from Madera.
He looks a lot different
Roczen bringing it to Zuk.
Lets go94
Wasn't Larry managing team Honda at some point? I'd bet he and Kenny bonded over stories of how controlling corporate Honda is...
He should be able to handle it. I mean he managed McGrath durring part of his prime.
i like to race but no one can give me a chance
You got to like his truth happy Rd2 cancelled
I have a autographed b& w old team green photo Of LB .. think #14. With Big old round eighties glasses on. On a later eighties one side radiator 125... I had a '88 also the first two radiator KX 125 '90 perimeter frame. Also a big jump in MSRP. I think it when from $ 1800 to $ 3000. An I really had to shop around to get it for three... Actually ordered it from Tuff racing shipped to my house for like 300. But, saved like 200 sales tax Plus dealer prep ETC... Fresh out High School .. AH remembering No Internet, cellular phones. .. AND woke soy boys.
Suzuki bike is old style lot of issues they most improved. Kick stater first changed it to push start.
Everyone thinks ken can win. Lemme be the guy to tell you as long as eli is around no one but eli is gunna win. Id love to see someone else win not cooperweb tho. Chase, ken, marvin, jason anyone. But eli wont let that happen #togood
I don’t wanna be that guy, but Larry isn’t looking great. Cancer or drugs…
You ARE THAT GUY. He's in his late 50's. Age gets everyone.
People in their 50s don’t look like that… ask me how I know… go on… ask.
Also, look at pics of him from a year - two years ago…
He just lost weight.he was always thin but he looks a few pounds lighter.and also looks like he has been out in the feild dirt and sun does that to the skin.
@@denniswilder3014 LOL...Yeah ok. I am looking at a photo of him from 2020,2021, and 2022. The drop off happened between 2022 and now. His face is sunk in which is drugs or cancer.
I really want Kenny to do well not just for him but Suzuki too.
They are real far behind in technology but they can do it all it takes is money. If they could only get a portion of what our Democrats are wasting Suzuki would be on top again
