The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - Seize Him (Narnia Musical | Theater Soundtrack)

You are currently listening to 'Seize Him,' one of the pieces of incidental music for the stage production of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," premiered at Westminster Classical Christian Academy in Toronto, Canada. This piece is the soundtrack for the scene where the great lion Aslan goes to meet the White Witch and allows her to sacrifice him. It's a deeply poignant moment, and the cornerstone of the entire story. C.S. Lewis used it to symbolize the profound sacrifice and redemption of Christ.
The piece is divided into two parts. The first part is a slow fugato, built upon the "Narnia" theme, which reappears several times throughout the play in various forms. Here, the theme emerges three times in its darkest form, initially played by cellos and basses, then by the violas, and finally by the violins. The fugato is interrupted when the White Witch's monstrous helpers seize Aslan. The violent succession of dissonant chords that follow on from this represent the beating suffered by Aslan, culminating in his death.
