      @Angry Grizzly The people that died were his patients and they asked for it. I guess they were terminally ill and probably they were not receiving a proper care. They wanted to die and they did not suffer. It is different from a person that wants to live and is brutally murdered.

    I sat with my mum for hours slowly watching her die and it was torture. They took her oxygen off and looked at me stupid just for wetting her lips, massaging her hands and even talking to her. I had to go home and tend to my children and finally wasn't there when she did. It took nearly 24 hours. Is that humane. I don't think so. It's been over a year and I'm still sobbing.

      I extend that to say that a person's Life is about what they want; a person shouldn't have to be terminally ill to legally seek medical assistance in dying. It's their life, after all. But of course the physician should also be free to decline helping if they so choose.

    I am a Christian always have been always will be. Now before anyone bashes me or the Bible consider this. There is NO WHERE in the Bible that says that assisted ending of life (I hate the term suicide) is a sin. Nor should it be. The closest thing we have is the death of Judas which wrong for a completely different reason (read up on it). The ending of a life can be a beautiful thing. I have seen a lot of people suffer at the end and that is NOT what God wants. Again the Bible does NOT say that this is a sin. I hope that clears things up for some people. I don't know if I would go quite so far as to say Dr Kevorkian was no saint but he in no way did anything wrong

    • @Ov3rshot
      @Ov3rshot Před 5 lety

      Yes obviously it doesnt say anything about assisted suicide, because the PERSON who wrote the bible didnt think of this situation at the time.

      If you're a Christian, I'm confident you've heard of the Ten Commandments, one of them being "you shall not kill." Kill is defined as "causing the death of someone or something." So, if you as a doctor cause the death of another, you are killing them, which is a sin according to the Bible.

If it v wasn't for the EOLOA my only option for pain control was a coma where I would be starved to death and it was made clear to me that I would still be in severe pain during this time of coma and it could take weeks to die that way. The answer is somewhere between what we do now (letting people slowly die) and Kevorkianism/ Euthanasia. If someone is strongly suffering, pump them with a such a high dose of pain killers it takes them out, make it so end of the life quality has to be better. I'm not giving a perfect answer, but I know it is between allowing long term suffering and literally administering straight death.

    • @PianomanKY

      A few years ago, my mom was terminal. Hospice and the nursing home she was in basically drugged her up with sedatives and pain pills. She laid there semi-sedated until she starved to death, which took over a week after she stopped eating/drinking. Several years prior to that, my dog of 16 years became terminally ill. We took her to the vet to be euthanized rather than allow her to suffer. We stayed with her the entire time petting her. The vet gave her the injections and she died quickly, painlessly and peacefully with me holding her paw the entire time. The point is, my dog had a more humane death than my mother did. How and why is that even remotely acceptable? It's a discussion that needs to happen, laws need to change, but it's such an uncomfortable and "taboo" topic that people are afraid of it.

As far as people bringing God into the equation, God judges the heart of man. He not only sees what we do, but why we do what we do. And he says all our rightousness is but filthy rags. There is none good, no not one, lest any man should boast. This man's motives were totally selfless.

    • @ricarleite
      @ricarleite Před 6 lety +1

      Well, religion has brought more pain, suffering, death and conflicts than anything else. Religion keeps us from evolving towards humane subjects and promotes conflict between people due to imaginary beings, all because we are afraid to die.
      The fact he went to jail is a fallacy of an appeal to authority - the state was wrong in this case, but because he was jailed by the state, you automatically assume it is the correct position.
      And the fact you cannot realize this on your own prove you are not a bright person.

    • @samuelunderwood5286
      @samuelunderwood5286 Před 6 lety

      If there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I don't trust the state.
      As far as your claim that "religion has brought more pain, suffering, death and conflicts than anything else," you couldn't be any more wrong.
      The most obvious evidence of this is tribalism, an ordinary aspect of human nature, that exists with or without religion. The two biggest wars in human history were motivated by national alliances, not religion. Marxist regimes actively destroyed religion before murdering 100 million people. The Nazi's were motivated by antisemitism and nationalism, not religion.
      In fact, there's a much stronger case for what religion has done for us. Judeo Christian ideology, specifically, has advanced civilization farther than any other ideology in history. Let's lay out some reasons it has been so successful. It emphasizes community, love, repentance, and forgiveness, which has allowed for more peace and has prevented conflicts. It establishes for the first time the idea that every human being has infinite worth, and that their rights are innate, not given to them by the government. This idea of human rights, coupled with a religious interest in truth, science, and knowledge, brought about the enlightenment and industrial revolution, and ultimately laid the foundation for the most free, prosperous, and diverse country the world has ever seen. Those are historical truths that wouldn't be refuted by any historian worth their salt.
      You are the beneficiary of a free society established on Judeo Christian principles, I wouldn't be so cynical.
      Yes, the crusades happened. Uhhh, that's about it.

    • @Ov3rshot
      @Ov3rshot Před 5 lety

      @@samuelunderwood5286 Sure, religion has done lots of good, and I believe it was a necessary part of human history.
      But claiming that only the crusades happened in the name of religions is incredibly ingenious and deceptive, and you know it.
      While it is the source of some good in the world, it is most definitely the source of A LOT of evil as well.

    • @samuelunderwood5286
      @samuelunderwood5286 Před 5 lety

      @@Ov3rshot
      Yes, of course there is more than the crusades. The point of my comment was more of a joke than anything. The point is that the crusades seem pathetically small compared to WWI, WWII, the USSR and Mao's china.
      Also, religion wasn't the only, or even the primary motivation for the crusades or the Spanish inquisition. Once again, it was nationalism and territory.
      I will concede that some religions, such has Islam, are much more capable of creating extremist ideologues who cause violence. But once again, were talking about small potatoes compared to secularism, which has been the direct cause of the loss of hundreds of millions of lives.

    • @Ov3rshot
      @Ov3rshot Před 5 lety

      @@samuelunderwood5286 I wrote a long detailed response, but after highlighting a different comment it all got deleted.. Sight..
      I'll recap it quickly. Most of those wars were due to religion and the differences between their teachings (And no, I'm not just talking about the crusades).
      If you claim religion is the basis of all morality at that time, than any differences in values between different cultures is a direct cause of differences of religion.
      Also, please explain how secularism is the reason for all the deaths in both the world wars, as well as the ones caused by communism under Mao.
      Remember, secularism basically just means lack of religion.
