Old pets don't generate much money for banks and drug companies, especially if they're owned by poor people, sick people generate a lot of money for banks and drug companies.

Dr. Kevorkian was an educated, compassionate, and understanding man. Compassion isn't trying to keep an eviscerated, dying, and suffering person/animal alive because of and for our own selfish reasons. When ending the suffering is the much more humane and selfless approach. He was and is an American hero in my book.

@@Paul-bd7fe Easy to say that when you’re not going through endless pain and suffering. Unfortunately not everything can be cured or fixed by medicine or science, so yes, in some cases, the best option is for a Dr. or trained medical professional to help a patient die peacefully.
This man was and is a hero!! He helped those who had immeasurable pain with no cure. There should be statues of this man and he should be celebrated and respected!

It is amazing how the other doctor has the balls to say how "we can do better with the end of life care". How many years later is this and we still have no idea how to help those at the end of their life. All these years later, we dope them up and then stick them and the family with a big bill. I will say it over and over, Dr. K is an American hero.

@@candicejoy1111 yeah I think it's legal in either Washington state or Oregon (Can't remember which one) but a 20 something year old used it for a very rare painful form of brain cancer a few years back that I know for sure.
I don't want it legalized. They may start euthanizing physically incapacitated or mentally handicapped people. And maybe do it against these people's will. Just to save the state or government some money.

But if someone is consistently preferring death over an extended period of time, I'm all for it. Make it as pleasant and accessable as possible but also give people the tools to recover if that's possible and they want to try.

For 6 months I watched my mom suffering with terminal cancer and her last 8 days were inhumane. There was no way she should have suffered like that. I 100% believe in assisted suicide and doctor assisted death. My mom died in 1997 and I still have nightmares of her sufferings. I still cry over it. 😭 I wish we had another alternative to end her painful misery.
End of life care has improved dramatically now.

Last year(2021) a 37 year old man with ALS from my country decided to end his life in Switzerland where its legal because he started to choke on his own saliva and couldnt do it anymore. Just like Tom Youke in this video. So where is the improvement? Yes, we can give cancer patients stronger pain relief but then theyre just asleep 23h/day high on morphine. Is that really quality of life?

Dr. Jack Kevorkian was a man ahead of his time. He was a true humanitarian.
It has been more than 20 years since this was filmed and still it is illegal in 42 states in the US.
Of the 8 states where it's legal, it's only if they have a terminal illness with a confirmed prognosis of having 6 or fewer months to live So if you may live longer than 6 months then regardless of how much pain and suffering you have, it''s still illegal.
Why in the United States do we show more compassion to our suffering and dying pets than we do toward humans?

I call this man Dr. Life. This man in my entire 49 years has made more sense to me in the last few minutes than anyone has made in my entire 49 years. I have battled a life long mental illness that has caused many around me a terrible amount of pain. I wished all my life I had been aborted before I was born. @@cobygrant8675 it's true keeping people alive makes some feel more powerful and godlike...but are they? Dr. Kevorkian showed more dignity, strength and compassion than any doctor I know, and I'm a nurse so i know many. It's a shame Dr. Kevorkian was persecuted for trying to help people.

An elderly relatively of mine committed suicide with a terminal disease. She shouldn't have been forced to do that alone and in such a manner. It angers me that this country made that her only option.
And there are people who want to keep even suicide from being an option.
I took care of a man in his home for three and a half years who had the same disease (Lou Gehrig disease) and I don't blame him at all for wanting to get out of that body, good for him. That disease is an absolute nightmare. He would have kept on suffering in a way that you can't even imagine.
My uncle died from Lou Gehrigs disease and suffered for about 2.5-3 years absolutely horrible to watch for my family and so very painful for him. Plus the cost of having to have a nurse at the house to care of him cost 9000 a month....

Over a year ago, My family & I had to watch my beautiful Sister fight this horrible monster called ALS... Also known as Lou Gehrig disease. 😥 I can almost feel what this man went through, his family also. So very 💔 to watch someone you love so much, suffer & fade away b4 your eyes, & nothing you can do to help them 😪 I definitely believe it is YOUR CHOICE if you want to end this crippling pain.

A man before his time
I remember when this was in the news. He helped end suffering. The Michigan state government made a law just for him. Then went back and rearrested him for a crime they just made a law for. This is completely illegal and unconstitutional but the Michigan government did it anyway. Thank you.

A great story and interesting subject that will no doubt be expanded on in the next few decades. This doctor is a great man and Tom the same for their contributions to the greater good and to help others to not have to suffer the same.

I obviously don't speak for everyone here but just as I want suffering people to have the right to decide when they die, I believe a woman should have the right to manage their own reproductive system.
Just for a second ignoring the many women who seek abortion for instances of rape or medical complications, most women enjoy sex, regardless of whether they want kids or not. While prevention is of course cheaper and generally preferable, there will always be instances where prevention doesn't work or isn't viable 100% of the time.

Patients who die of illnesses like this do so in a long slow process. With a lot of pain and suffering waiting for their organs to shut down. It is painful for the family and the patient.

Euthanasia is evolved, humane, and merciful when someone is in constant pain and suffering without hope of improvement. I believe it should be legal since it is done under signed consent, and it shouldn't be considered suicide.

I worked in the hospital and on the ambulance for decades....they euthanize in hospitals DAILY...they just call it pain/anxiety control....there is a reason the first two drugs they prescribe when in hospice or end of life care are Morphine and Lorazepam together...I never understood why the authorities and medical professionals picked on him the way they did knowing what they already knew to be common practice for the terminally ill...we euthanize our pets because we do not want them to suffer....heck we even euthanize murderers and make sure they do not suffer...Dr. Kevorkian is a hero, patriot and icon....many people have been able to die with dignity because of him....and he saved a lot of families from the long and drawn out suffering and trauma of watching their loved ones suffer and die slowly, painfully and terrified… I am thankful to him that when my time is near, I have the right to choose to end my own suffering as well before I am a burden to my loved ones

Exactly!! I am a nurse and literally every patient that I've had on comfort care had those two medications ordered, and I always give them around the clock even though they're PRN. I remembered taking report from a nurse and I asked her when she last gave the medications. She had said "Oh, I did not give any of those during my shift. It's against my belief." SMH the first thing they teach us in nursing school is self-assessment and not allowing our own beliefs to get in the way of what is truly right for our patients. I did not go off on her like I wanted to do but I did give the patient the medications around the clock. Patient did not die during my shift but I had heard they died the next day. I like to think I helped them feel comfortable in their last moments.
This along with abortion, I was against it. I thought that its sad to end a life, but I was taught by someone who is very religious who knew nothing about this sorta stuff except just judged it by how it sounds. It wasn’t until I saw a Kevorkian interview last year and got a real understanding same with learning from nurses and doctors about the real meaning of abortion a few years ago. I now support both. Pretty much also helped me realize I’m an atheist.

Jack was a good man. He was my nextdoor neighbor for the last 2 years of his life. I saw him on his stretcher when they took him to the hospital and never returned. He was smart, kind, and always a gentlemen.

The doctor is amazing. There is no truer or more obvious part of freedom than, after living a life, to have the right to end when you want. Nobody else is in your body and only the person feeling the pain can decide if it's tolerable. If it's not and they are forced to deal with it until the bitter end, who does that help? Making someone suffer needlessly is a form of torture if it's against their wishes.
What describes freedom better than allowing individuals to choose what is best for them after living their life? Dr. K is a hero!
It's all about extracting every single penny out of you and your corpse as well. It's all about the Benjamin's. They do not even personally know or care that you exist, but they want to control your life to the very end for $$$$$$$$$$. If they cannot extract $$$$$, they could care less if you commit suicide or anything else.

I was born in 91 and have always heard doctors referred to as Kevorkians when people didn't like them. I thought he botched surgeries or something, who knew I actually agree with him.
The doctor had the heart and passion for those who suffering and new he had to help him the man new he couldn’t take the pain suffering and he had no quality of life. May he RIP🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻RIP
There’s really no difference when it comes to hospice or taking some one off life support it’s ending a life or letting life end. It’s actually humane and he truly cares for the patients needs and wants.
Better end of life care? Never heard of it. What I saw my dad go through was not end of life care.

I think that Dr. Kevorkian was just ahead of his time and had sympathy for his patients. My grandmother was bed bound on hospice for 3 YEARS. She constantly told me she didn’t want to live that way anymore. Her MMJ card was not able to be renewed because she couldn’t get out of bed to go to follow up appointments. If there was a Dr. Kevorkian around she wouldn’t have suffered so long.
Very humane. This should be our option!!!! We visited Dr. Kevorkian’s van at Zac Bagens Haunted Museum here in Vegas. You could feel the energy around the vehicle. Not bad energy. Just a sort of peace.

This breaks my heart
This man completely sacrificed his life and career for the sake of the ill and suffering. The horrors the families of the patients were spared from through watching their loved ones suffer to the very end is enough to understand the logic.

The only religion that I've heard of that makes people suffer is Islam. Christianity is totally different. Jesus Christ came and gave his life so that we can live forever and not have to go to hell. Our God died for us not the other way around 8:31
I view Dr kavorkian as a true hero. I can't understand why this is not legal worldwide. This world is truly inhumane

When I was a teenager back in the 90's learning about Dr. Kevorkian, I know then he wasn't doing anything wrong. If I reach a point in my life where I'm unable to live a functioning life, I'd do this.
His courage is admirable. I can understand for a person suffering constant pain with no possibility of reprieve would want to crossover. This man had the courage to sacrifice himself to make that a possibility. History will remember you doctor
I wouldn't let an animal languish and suffer in this way. That poor man had every right to choose to leave his body behind. We all have an end - and, perhaps, it's simply a new beginning. At any rate, there's nothing wrong with an informed individual choosing to put an end to this sort of nightmare. When a human being is living with unbearable pain and suffering and their death is imminent they should be allowed to say "enough" - no one should be able to deny another person that right. And a doctor should be allowed to help so as to make it as humane as possible. Jack Kevorkian, you were the opposite of a "devil" and you were not the "angel of death". You were a merciful, brave human being. Again: this is a deeply personal matter and individuals should be allowed to make these choices for themselvers - and caring medical professionals should be allowed to assist.
If they are going to die and need pain relief, that is understandable, but to die before your actual time artificially?
If the healthcare system acted as humanely as it should, many people would be out of work. Sick reality but it's reality nonetheless.

My friend died of Cystic Fibrosis on Saturday she suffered at the end barely could eat and all I thought was why can't someone take away her pain? She loved what Doctor Kevorkian did
And, IMO that's the worst...not being able to breathe, slowly suffocating.

But most does high school days or in their 20’s due to complications.

Now on the flip side, you have David Sinclair on slowing down the aging and mortality process with getting old. Hopefully in the future there will be an abatement to some of these terrible diseases.

I was unable to breathe one day and drove to the emergency room and had a heart attach. Not being able to breathe is horrible. I can relate to his dilemma. I had a cabbage at 65.

When he talks about choking, yes I'm sure many of us have had those couple of seconds with something stuck in our throats and you freak out, your heart starts racing.

Dr. Kevorkian did not deserve the slander flung at him. He was a good man. Also he never advocated for euthanasia of infants, the mentally incapacitated, or the mentally ill.
He did absolutely nothing wrong. He was such a brilliant soul.

Rest in peace brother. As a nurse in long term care I see atrocious amounts of pain, suffering, and agony. Family members want their loved ones to live long but the patient is screaming to be with "god." Shame on every selfish family member, court, or naysayer whom disagrees with assisted suicide. You'll forever in my books be more evil than the worst humanity has provided. When you my friends are in that position I hope you thought long and hard about who you make POA.

He’s one of the smartest humans to ever exist, and certainly one of my personal (anti) heroes. But his hubris got him scrutinized, not so much the actual act.
It wasn't hubris. He was trying to make people see. That it was healthcare not suicide. By him giving the medicine he was trying to show people what it should be. The ill person is already burdened with suffering...why burden them with self administration if they would prefer someone else to do it. He wanted to show people a doctor could give the medicine and it would be care. The only thing missing was the person's family and chosen place. It wasn't hubris...he was just tired of walking on egg shells.

So to be clear, the doctors of America scolded Jack for his treatment that killed patients (who were terminally ill, in great amounts of agony and pain) in the 90s. Then proceeded to prescribe opioids over the next 30 years which has lead to massive addiction and an illicit drug trade of opioids that has killed millions...... But Jack is the bad guy here..... got it.
Yep. But remember, the doctors that prescribed opioids freely - that lead to massive amounts of addictions, deaths, families torn apart, etc.... They made oodles of money doing it- so that makes it OK.... All the while, our law enforcement, prisons, mental health institutions are overrun by addiction. Thank goodness that doesn't cost taxpayer $$. smh.

Here's the thing no one living in America which is supposedly the land of the free should have to suffer a traumatic and extremely painful death. The family doesn't need to see that and the person suffering doesn't deserve to experience that. This man is a true hero because he stood up for terminally ill people who just wanted a peaceful death after years and years of suffering. This doctor is one of the few who actually has a heart. Im just so mad we treated him like a criminal.
God Bless Dr. Kevorkian, why should humans suffer any more than we already do. Anyone who has pain on the daily, I would think, would understand the good doctor's reasoning to help mankind.
