  • A day trip from Tokyo to Enoshima, where I try crazy Japanese ice cream flavours, see a dragon and explore caves!
    GET MY JAPAN TRAVEL GUIDEBOOK: www.cakeswithf...
    Enoshima is a seaside area about an hour from Tokyo by train, so it's an easy day trip if you're visiting Tokyo. It's next to Kamakura, which has lots of Japanese temples and shrines, and you can visit both in one day.
    See my convenience store breakfast, and explore Enoshima Island: the Sea Candle, the escalator, crazy Japanese ice cream flavours (the one I tried was black!), shrines and temples, spotting hawks and Enoshima Iwaya Cave - where I meet a dragon!
    SUBSCRIBE for more Tokyo videos - next we'll be going to Kamakura and visiting an amazing bamboo forest!

    Couples that lock a padlock to the fence on Lover’s hill will find their love unchanged through the years. Declaration of love and an idea borrowed from bridges in Paris and other major cities. Nearby Enoshima shrine is famous for tying love together, so there is love in the air around here.

      Maybe that's what the "Bell of Dragon's love" is about too!

    I loved Enoshima island...'cept when I was there there was very few people. Imagine my shock at this video! Makes me want to go back even more...the ice cream is reason enough to fly all the way over there! BTW your hair and make-up are impeccable how do you do that and go to these places and still take time to edit? (Pardon my ignorance I know nothing about the creation of CZcams VLOG's.

      I think it would be good with few people, I like places that aren't too crowded! :-) I'd love to try more falvours of ice cream, yum (maybe not squid though...). I don't really know anything about make-up so thank you!! I edit when I get back home, it's fun to relive all the memories :-)

    Checked these out after seeing your recent video to Arashiyama where you said you liked the Kamakura one. Thanks for the day trip suggestion. Is the train from Tokyo covered by the JR Pass?

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  Před 7 lety

      mudstuff Yes, you can take a JR train from Tokyo to Kamakura with your JR Pass! The local train (Enoden) between Kamakura & Enoshima isn't covered by it though. That time, I didn't have a JR Pass so I got the Kamakura Free Pass, which covers the whole trip from Tokyo.

    Did you buy the free pass from Tokyo station? Can you go there from Tokyo station?

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  Před 5 lety

      You an buy the free pass from the Odakyu railways desk at Shinjuku Station. Follow signs to the Odakyu line to find it. All the details are here: www.odakyu.jp/english/passes/enoshima_kamakura/
      The quickest way to get to Shinjuku Station from Tokyo Station is on the Chuo line (it's a JR line, not always shown on the metro map). Hope that helps! :-)

      It's not the most common Japanese drink like it seems from abroad - they tend to sell it at places like food stalls, ice cream kiosks, etc. I think they also have it at Don Quijote (large shop with lots of strange/interesting things!) & Village Vanguard.

    How much was the round trip train fare from Tokyo?

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  Před 6 lety

      I used the Enoshima-Kamakura Free Pass, which is 1470 yen each: www.odakyu.jp/english/passes/enoshima_kamakura/

      About $14. Good deal, thank you so much. We will be returning to Japan in October, is it worth renting a car there? I am afraid that the direction and the drivers side might confused me. Thank you so much again, we'll be there for about two weeks and hopefully we can keep occupied the whole time.

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  Před 6 lety +1

      If you're staying in Tokyo, you don't need a car. The metro and train system is excellent and even if you're doing a few day trips the trains are great.
      If you're travelling around Japan, a car might be worth it. It depends what you want to do. The trains are excellent - clean and on time and there are bullet trains for long distances. There are definitely places that are a lot easier to get to if you have a car - especially in the countryside. Personally I enjoy having a break from driving when I'm on a trip so I've never rented one, but there are a couple of places I would have gone to if I had one, which weren't really feasible on the train.
      I've stayed in Tokyo several times for up to 2 weeks and not run out of things to do - obviously it depends what you're interested in, but with day trips as well, I'm sure you don't need to worry about keeping yourselves occupied!

    How would you get to the caves with children?

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  Před 11 měsíci

      You can't really drive there or get a taxi as there aren't many roads on the island. From Enoshima Station it's about 1.5 miles walk to the caves. You can take it slow, and there are shops, cafes and things to see along the way, including places to get ice cream! There is also a boat that goes from the start of the bridge to the west point of the island, quite near the caves.
