Izu Peninsula is very beautiful place.

So, cherry blossoms open early than Tokyo.
Izu Peninsula have sea and mountain.

I visited Mount Takao in November of last year. It was gorgeous. The trees were a beautiful Autumn colour and the view of Mount Fuji once you reach the summit is well worth the exercise. And don't be scared of the chair lifts. Ok, be a little scared. But that's what makes them fun to ride. I can't wait to visit it again in a couple of weeks! It was one of the highlights of my trip.

I don't think they could really close the trails as it's open to the public - there's no ticket to get in or anything. (Maybe they could close the chair lift/cable car, although I couldn't say if they're open all year round or not). I was surprised how it wasn't that cold in February (compared to the UK) so you'd soon get your body heat up with the hiking!

Have you ever visited around the Japan Alps area, Amy? My absolute favourite daytrip in Japan was Kamikochi from Matsumoto. It's absolutely beautiful, especially in Autumn, and pretty straightforward to get to. I'd highly recommend adding it to your long list of places to visit if you've never been! I also did a half day trip to Daio Wasabi farm from Matsumoto and ate lots of wasabi oyaki (couldn't try the ice cream because I'm vegan ...) and I'd definitely recommend visiting one for something a little bit different.
For around Tokyo, it's gotta be Enoshima though. Definitely considering Mt Takao next time!

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  Před 4 lety +1

Both of those are good choices for day trips! :-) No, I haven't been to the Japanese alps - I'd love to go though! And the wasabi farm - I've heard of it when I've been trip planning before! I'd love to go somewhere that has wasabi-everything! There's one place that grows fresh wasabi in the UK, and it's so much more fragrant and delicate than what you get in tubes.

If you don't have quite as much time, on the way to Okutama on the Ome Line, you could get off at Mitake and take a 2km walk down the river to Sawae, where there's a sake brewery. Beautiful setting, beautiful brewery: Sawanoi Ozawa. The tasting room has sakes from 200-500yen and you get to keep a cup for every sake you drink. I walked out with five, and was quite happy in every regard. Sleepy on the train home, though...

I was watching trips reminiscing of my trip last summer and was just thinking about day trips out to Tokyo when I saw this video. I actually wanted to go to Mt Takao but I didn’t get chance to do half the things I wanted haha! So I went on a day trip to Fuji Five Lakes and that was definitely my highlight, along with the Imperial Palace and Akihabara. I think I preferred this as much as I would love to hike it, as I saw a little shrine myself that was so mystical to me and Lake Kawaguchi and that community was so far removed from Tokyo with its little one car streets and wooden houses and the views of Fuji were outstanding. You can book an independent trip to Fuji Five Lakes from Tokyo bus station but you do still have to buy a return ticket with a certain time to return, say 4pm. That took me about 2 hours and I almost didnt make it because I started exploring the area, found the old road to Kamakura (note that Kamakura isn’t near Fuji five lakes, it would take days walking that road, it’s just the old road there) and sort of got lost about an hour before my bus left!

did that bus trip to the Kegon waterfalls go on the Iroha slope? im planning a return trip to Japan for 2020 and would love to see the Iroha slope again and spend a few minutes in certain areas without being pulled along by the tour guides. i know Kegon waterfall is a long ride but its the Iroha slope which gets my attention more and im trying to find out if the bus takes the mountain road or not. i saw the Kegon waterfalls from the top station, no time to head t the base with the guided tour group.

I hadn't heard of the Iroha Slope before, thank you! Just looked it up, it looks interesting!! I know how you feel about being able to take your own time instead of travelling with a group. I don't know too much about the bus, but it looks like it might go on the slope, if you look at the blue line and the two maps here: www.japan-guide.com/e/e3812.html The slope looks quite close to the waterfall, although I'm not sure of the scale!

um,... ahem,... Chiba, especially Chiba Park in June for the lotus blossoms. There will be few to zero foreign tourists (^_^) ... Chiba Zoo can be reached riding the (actually kind if fun monorail), the animals there seem to be generally happy (unlike in Ueno). The added benefit is English signs and language are going to be minimal,...

Warm daytime but at night a little chilling.
But I am going to go there for marine sports in the end of October.
But this year unusual prolonged summer still goes on.
It is unbelievable that it still hits 30℃ daytime in October now and summery cicadas still are crying on trees.
To fully enjoy Kamakura and Enoshima, I recommend you to watch this

It depends which you're interested in. Some trains leave from Shinjuku, and some leave from Ikebukuro or other stations. If it's on the bullet train, Tokyo Station area is best. Overall, I'd recommend Shinjuku, because it's so well connected. If you need to get over to the other side of the city, you can use the JR Chuo / Sobu Line (quicker than the metro).

It’s OK if you want to visit there, but if you want to enjoy better onsen.
