Under PA law you can recover in court if you’re less than 51% at fault. Here, the zoo was partially at fault for having an open exhibit over a highly dangerous animal. In terms of premises liability, PA also has a more stringent / higher duty of care towards invitees compared many other states (highest duty of care, compared to states like my home state, WA, which just imposes a duty of reasonable care).
IMO the mom was probably more than 51% at fault (and I think a jury would have found as much) but if it makes people feel better, they almost certainly settled for (significantly) less than the $300k they asked for-and remember that 1/3 of that goes to the attorneys.

      @@briannelson3830 Nope. Ban zoos :)
Wild animals should be in the wild, and if they are endangered, they should be in sanctuaries. True conservation = sanctuaries; not cages.
If folks want to see wild animals in person, they can visit sanctuaries where the animals have as much freedom as we can give them while keeping them safe from extinction.
Crowds of people leering at and yelling at animals in cages while zoos breed them purely for cash flow (baby animals bring in lots of paying visitors & donations) is not conservation. They like to justify it as conservation, but the vast majority of zoos are just businesses for profit.
Zoo supporters think it's cute & funny when animal inmates pace and swing their heads back and forth. That's actually zoochosis, and it's sickening.
Every wonder what happens to the older animals that quietly disappear from their cages or "habitats" when they're no longer entertaining & their medical costs become high? They're auctioned. And usually purchased by canned-hunt organizations. That's some great "conservation" there.

People don't understand those wild dogs are not canines. They are neither wolf or dog. No more than a lion is a dog or wolf. They are Canidae and that is a completely different genus of animal. They don't act like dogs we are used to. They don't think like the dogs we are used to. They formed in Africa away from canines. For eons they lived in Africa. I saw a live stream of a pack of wild dogs that tore apart a baby waterbuck in less than a minute. I saw another where a lion stalked the pack and killed a young wild dog to tell the others to get out of their territory. In Africa certain animals don't like other animals. Cape buffalo will kill lions if they get around their babies.

I just wanted to say thank you for having the testicular fortitude to speak the truth about this situation. So many others would have been too afraid of social commentary and imagined backlash to keep to the facts, actions and subsequent outcome of what truly happened and the unfortunate results of the aforementioned. It is a harsh truth to have to speak to the negligence of a mother and how that negligence led to the death of her child. I find it repulsive and abhorrent that the parents, after basically being "let off" of any charges and responsibilities in connection with the mother's actions and the resulting death due to those actions. The filing of a lawsuit against the zoo by the parents I am sure made the mother feel better about herself and the false feeling of innocence regarding the unfortunate death of her aon. The blame had to be placed somewhere, but just not on her head (where it rightly should have been). Our society has put a giant layer of mental bubble wrap around certain people to protect them from any further harsh yet deservedly blunt facts that she ahould have had to face. End result of all of this....
One dead child, one parent wrongly absolved of any negligence and/or wrongdoing, parents walk away feeling innocent and justified with much heavier pockets due to the added deathcoins contained within. We all hope you enjoy the extra spending money that has come your way for the death of your child try to not let that get in the way of spending your ill-gotten money.

@@isitoveryet9525THANK YOU. This is the hardest I have ever agreed with something in a long time. With these types of cases, I always think the *exact* same thing when reading comments regarding them.
All of the comments on these types of videos insulting the mother is honestly fucking disgusting. Yeah she fucked up, but like come on, people are trying to say that shes legitimately a bad person for an accident that could easily happen to anyone. At pretty much ANY zoo, you will see parents holding their kids up like this, but nobody crucifies the 999,999/1,000,000 people who do the exact same thing without a terrible tragedy occurring. People can call this negligent all they want, and I can see why you would say that when looking at this isolated incident, however the mother’s action in holding Maddox up is an *extremely extremely extremely* common thing to do in any zoo environment, so I cannot look at this in any way other than a tragic accident and nothing more
As soon as any tragedy occurs, I guess some people are just really desperate to have someone to throw their blame and anger at, even if it’s something that could have happened to anyone 😂

There were plenty of signs warning visitors not to cross the barriers. My son is on the autism spectrum and I kept a close watch on him at all times. I would see parents lifting their kids up to stand on top of the rails and if a staff member was around, they'd get a verbal warning. Often other visitors would speak up.
