I made a second minipond yesterday, also from prefabbed materials, but only above ground this time. No dig 😅. I used an Intex doggiebath 30 cm h x 45 br x 75 l, and put it in a rectangular shape though it is meant to sort of round, the sides are held in place with flowerpots. Looks funny, but hopefully also watersource for the bats amongst others. Thanks for inspiring Joel. Greetings, Esther
I love lilypads, sadly where I live we have an invasive species of turtle that has essentially eradicated them from natural ponds, as well as outcompeting the native species
Hi Diane, not in the UK no, we do get mosquitoes but a wildlife pond set up right should attract birds, bats, amphibians and larger insects that all love to feast on mosquitoes and their larvae - a small Pipistrelle bat here can eat circa 3000 insects in just one night 🤗 - best wishes, Joel
I’m finally making my first pond, but it’s only a container pond. It will likeley get me into family and mental trouble because I co own the place with my sister and they expressly don’t want any pond however small claiming there will be more mosquitoes. I have placed it, filled it with water some sand and a little ramp with a brick and slate. But I can’t buy native pond plants here so I haven’t planted it yet. I still need to “construct” some more around it with soil and stones and hopefulky some wild flowers. Taken me a few years since I first watched your video on how to build a pond! 🩵

Mine too but I bought some oxygenators and it’s clearing. Still got the blanket weed but I’ll manually extract that over time.
A mixture of plants and other measures to avoid excess of nutrients, shade also helps I understand
No bugs, no amphibians, no background. Still beautiful.
