  • Kilauea Iki Trail is the Most Popular Hike in Volcanoes National Park.
It offers a beautiful variety from a Hawaii jungle walk to black lava crater exploration.
I like to hike the Kilauea Ski Trail counter clockwise, starting at the Kilauea Iki Lookout parking, and heading down to the the crater. This is about a 4 mile long loop with less than 1000 feet of elevation gain. On the way out you can walk through the Thurston Lava Tube (Nahuku) which can be a good addition to the hike.
    Be safe on the travels!
    Mahalo for watching!

I did it very surprisingly, with my back pain and old age. The awe was mine and the nature gave me the awesome experience

Fantastic job! Your cinematography was fantastic. 👍😀🔥 I haven't seen your videos in so many months. Do you think there are enough hikes in this park to spend three weeks here?

Thank You! This is such a beautiful hike, and there is more for sure, but not enough for 3 weeks. If you want to backpack Mauna Loa plus some of the other hikes in the park, one week is more than enough in my opinion.

Do we need a tour guide or we can do by our own ?
Can I do it with kids ? 5 years and 10 years

You don’t need a guide. It is one if the easier trails, but with a 5 years old might be a little long. You can always start and then turn back if the kids don’t want to go further :)

I lived in Honolulu as a kid and my school flew the fourth graders to the Big Island every year to hike this trail. Wasn't our only trip destination (it was a 4-day, 3-night trip), but it was part of the itinerary. If they could do it with a huge crowd of 10-year-olds every year, I'm sure your kids will be fine.

Ma'am, what is the name of your tennis or hiking shoes? I want to purchase before doing the same hike
