- Hey everyone, just a guy enjoying the hobby of watch making. This pocket watch was a unique challenge for me. I am glad I was able to get some experience on something different than I"m used to! Chime in if you have any tips, tricks, or comments! Thanks again, see you next time!
New Haven Compensated
I also realized it’s missing a “bow” at the top (the curved piece that the chain would attach to). I’ll order one of those as well. I was pleased to see there are tons available online! Thanks again for watching!
HI, I live 10 miles from New Haven. I have collected many of the New Haven pocket watches. I also have 3 or 4 of the ones you are taking apart and fixing. If you need some parts, please don't hesitate to let me know. The old factory building is still there but has been converted into small business shops. Good video fixing the old New Haven. Don"O"
Thanks for the offer and added info! I’ll keep that in mind!
Well done man watch guy from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Greetings and thank you! I have yet to visit the beautiful country, but it’s on my list! I wear my Swanndri daily, does that count?? Haha thanks for watching!
Love seeing all that space in the back compared to a wrist watch. Could hide a secret stash in there 😅
Great idea. I would recommend carrying a second pocket watch then. One for timekeeping and one for your activities. Bonus points for carrying a third with a snack in the back. Thanks for subscribing
Reminds me of the Alice in Wonderland rabbit’s watch!
It does! He had good taste 🐇
To disassemble these "dollar watches" rotate that ovel shaped piece next to the hole below the stem. You will then see the end of the pivot of what you called the setting lever. Reach in that hole with a pick or angle tipped tool and pull up on the setting lever. By rotating that oval piece to the side it will allow the setting lever to lift up. This allows you to pull out the stem. Then remove the entire movement from the case, remove the dial. This gives you access to the click and you can let down the power. These types of watch are not the best for beginners to work on because of the way they were made (as cheaply as possible). They weren't really meant to be serviced like a traditional pocket watch. Top and bottom plates on later models were even riveted together on some further negating serviceability.
Thanks for this info! Super helpful and thanks for watching!
Crystals sometimes hard to find for dollar pocket watches.
True! I ended up finding one eventually on eBay it was a 42.5mm. I’m happy to report it looks very nice with it installed! Thanks for watching!
Good job, but you forgot to put it back on the Timegrapher!
Thanks for watching! I’ll have to include that in future videos!
That soft pad looks an awful lot like a huge lens cap for an old vintage barrel lens. You wouldn't happen to know anything about those would you?
The best part is they’re cheap $5-10 bucks if I recall. Search for a “watch casing cushion”! I’m not sure how many size options are out there but I think it would work with some modifications or if you just hand held it against the lens. Thanks man!
What do you call the finger gloves?
Finger cots, they are available online in 100+ packs for $5-10. Just make sure to get roughly the right size so they aren’t too tight or loose.
Get the crystal at Whites crystal mfg. This watch most likely had plastic . I like the Pocket Ben myself they tick very loudly for a dollar watch.
Thanks for the tip! I picked up a glass one on eBay recently and it worked well. I think plastic would be nice so it doesn’t break! Thanks for chiming in and watching!
