    Did you upgrade to the X7 lenses or are you sticking to the X5S? Why?

      Yellowhouse Aerial I would have bought the X7 until I realized that you HAVE to use DJIs lenses. No thank you. I do not want to get further into the Monopoly. I am Sure the lens cost ALOT more than they would have otherwise. I can’t imagine tangling myself further into the DJI machine has I have already given the greedy company at least 25k over the past 2 years. Oh well

      This is true. Laowa’s 9mm DL is 1/3rd of the cost!

    1:49. That lens is one of the better wide angles out there. The glass is made by Leica in partnership with panasonic. Its beautiful glass and worth using.

    All very well if you can trust DJI to support the X7 setup on future drones. Would anyone buy DSLR lenses if Canon / Nikon / Sony decided to change the format every 3/4 years and then your'e left with redundant unwanted worthless gear ? My advice would be to hire the kit unless you are sure of an investment return in a few months. Justifying the cost too is potentially financial suicide.

    I've shot with both X7 and X5 quite a bit and here are a few observations with regard to still images. I find the images shot 15mm dji lens, 25mm Olympus and 45mm Olympus to be sharper than any of the X7 lenses. I also find that they have less chromatic aberration than the X7 lenses. Am I missing something here?

    • @askyellowhouse
      @askyellowhouse  Před 5 lety

      Hey Evan!
      Chromatic ab and sharpness can vary between lenses but are also both functions of f/ stop and what type of filters you’re using.
      Also of course, neither are affected by whether you’re shooting stills or video. The only reason that might matter is if you’re shooting stills in 4:3 or 2:3 and seeing more of the sensor, using more of the glass, while a tight 16:9 or 17:9 doesn’t come quite as close to the edge of the optics.
      We shot the exact same scene(s) here with all of these lenses and you can see the results; perhaps you should try a quick comparison between the corner of your 50mm DL and 45mm Olympus. Shoot a tight white/black grid pattern on your computer screen from across the room and put hard black/white lines in the frame corner, see how they do.

    • @MegaBirdie1
      @MegaBirdie1 Před 5 lety +2

      @@askyellowhouse Thanks....I shot the stills at the exact same settings..and varied them. Generally in the range of f2.8 - f7. f5 at 320 - 500 shutter speed seems to yield best results. The video on X7 is spot on and I will admit that the X7 still images are sharper around the edges..however, the overall images shot at same settings are sharper on X5 I only shoot 4:3 or 2:3 and use a UV and ND for stills and ND for video. The 50mm on X7 is definitely the sharpest of th X7 lenses and the 16mm least sharp. That's all the news for now. Appreciate your feedback

    • @askyellowhouse
      @askyellowhouse  Před 5 lety +3

      Hi! It depends on your goal.
      The X5S will save you some money and even more when you go to buy lenses, also there are LOTS of used ones on the market! The X7 will add an extra 10-15% onto your footage quality (even in prores) but at the cost of an extra $2-5,000.

    Hello, my name is Jordan Perrin, I have a production company specializing in aerial photography in France, we have an Inspire 2 with an X5S for the moment.
    I film mainly with the DJI 15mm MFT / 17MM M.Zuiko / 45MM M.Zuiko, but I am very disappointed with the neatness of the image. I would like your opinion on this subject, which objective and the clearest on the X5S, but also for a future investment goal, the X7 can it solve this problem?
    Thank you for your videos that are very useful to me, continuing like this!

    • @askyellowhouse
      @askyellowhouse  Před 5 lety +2

      For us, the ability to give our director of photography a set of options rather than restricting them (like only giving an artist red and green paint) is worth a lot, so we have five lenses.
      That said if we had to choose? 35 or 50, and then 16 or save some money and get the 9mm from Laowa. Or get three: 9, 24, 50.

    • @askyellowhouse
      @askyellowhouse  Před 5 lety +2

      True! But if you can have an f/2.8 on Super 35 or f/1.8 on MFT, you’re gonna get better results on the Super 35!
      Like I’ll take f/3.5 on a full frame over f/1.2 on a cell phone any day of the week.

      You need to brush up on your knowledge of actual light entering the entrance pupil. Depth of field isn’t what I am referring to, but actual light per micron of sensor. A T stop is a T stop.

    too bad the DJI X7 mount is proprietary, unlike the M 4/3. Now if it were a true APS-C mount, adapting canon or Nikon glass would be a no brainer for me.

    • @askyellowhouse
      @askyellowhouse  Před 5 lety

      True! But look at the weight of Nikon full frame glass. Huge. The proprietary mount has the somewhat redeeming quality that it’s small and ultra light.
      From our perspective, dropping 7 minutes off the I2’s claimed 27min flight time with X4S down to 20min with the X7, we’re super glad to save some weight. Our clients love the X7.
