I tried this egg method , and I have to say , it worked AMAZINGLY well. Thank you for sharing this with all of us
Silver will also patina from eggs. I think your idea is great for those of us don’t like the fumes of LOS. Luv your work!
Thank you! Yes, Liver of Sulphur can be a bit potent - and it lingers a bit! 😄
Thanks for the little tip.
Hydrogen peroxide will work I found this out accidentally when I spilled peroxide on a necklace it made the beautiful rainbow effect
Thanks I do wire wrap jewelry using copper craft wire I want to add patina but don't want to use liver of sulfer 🙂
Amazing trick I made a great patina copper wrist watch!! that was to shiny and looked cheap... Now is a whole different story! Thanks
Cheers from California ! I subscribed
Thank you
yay! You did it! I will try this!
Excellent! I'd love to know how you get on!
You can reheat the eggs in the micro (30 seconds) then put jewellery back in.
Oh my I will definitely try it - thank you so much - so am guessing you go through the usual process afterwards - put in warm water with baking soda to stop the oxidization then rinse and scrub and then seal. This was awesome.
I thank you so much Lili- I will re-watch your complete video when you used liver of sulfur because you go through the whole process - How to Polish and Finish Copper Jewellery
Great method. I love hard boiled eggs and am happy to eat them after. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Interesting.
Thanks so much Teresa. I had heard that the sulphur from eggs might work, but I had never seen a demo. I would have thrown away the eggs and tried the egg shells! :) Savenana x
You're welcome! I was fairly sceptical, but it definitely does work. I think it would be even better left a bit longer, too.
Thank you for the tips. Than working with chemicals greetings from Aruba. I like your videos
Thank you and you're welcome!
Genial, más fácil imposible
Gracias!
what is the difference between Patina, Oxidizing and Nano coating copper??? does it have the same effect on copper?? i heard nano coating also coats plasma in copper which seems way benificial for healing purposes and many more. which process is more effective ?? please looking forward for ur answers. and thank u for sharing this knowledge. looks like there is home remedy to anything. feel blessed.
فكره هايله لاكن هل هى ثابته
I very much liked the color of the patina when you took it out of the container. How could that color be set to permanently stay?
Don't use wire wool to polish. 😊
I want to see that made! Where's that video? For the pieces you have here. I've searched & can't find it.
What should I do to keep the gray look from coming off?
I understand the fumes coming off the yolks is sulphery. I wonder if you put a glass container in the oven just hot enough to keep the eggs steamy will cause something differnt. The copper will be hot and so will the fumes I find with LOS if I keep the copper warm it stains better. I use a steel cookie sheet, and heat it to 160F the coins i'm aging look original antique
First of all... WOW!! I would have never thought that eggs could do that!! But I have a question: do this trick works also with a ''normal'' wire? I mean, the one you can easily get in some stores? Thanks! x
What wire did you use?
Thank you! I am pregnant so I was looking for a chemical free way to do patinas! Thanks heaps!!
It's still a chemical reaction.....
@@johnhoekstra7044 Everything that is a reaction is a chemical reaction on some level. She was saying while pregnant, she didn't want to be around noxious chemicals.
Does this method work safely with stones that are too delicate, or get ruined by Liver of Sulfur? In other words...can this method be used with out damage to a stone with MOHS hardness lower the 5?
Once polished, will the copper stay that way or will it eventually turn green?
Unless the copper is sealed, it will continue to oxidise - although my pieces have always turned brown rather than green (I think verdigris tends to happen in outdoor conditions) You can, of course, repolish the pieces to bring the finish back to how you want it. Or seal the pieces to protect them from that natural oxidisation. My current favourite sealant to use is ProtectaClear from Everbrite.
To me, the egg method didn't get the piece black. Is the egg method permanent? Do you have to us steel wool? Can you re-patina a piece you did with the egg method? ❤😊
Does it matter if the egg is warm or cold?
Jerad Mann Thank you for reply.
I'm not sure. I expect the heat might help the sulphur get around, but you don't want any steam condensing on your pieces. So I used them warm. I would anticipate that if they were cold it would take longer, but should still yield a similar result.
Should you apply a coating so the patina does not rub off on your skin or clothing?
I haven't had much problem with patina rubbing off, although I usually used liver of sulphur, rather than the eggs! But it is worth giving your copper some protective coating anyway, to prevent natural patina over time. My favourite at the moment is Protectaclear by Everbrite.
Just bear in mind that many of us allergic to most types of sealants, so it might not work for your customers.
I don't see the point of this when it doesn't stay. Everything just wipes off. You'd have to seal it somehow, and I don't know how.
It it safe to eat the eggs afterwards to make an egg salad..lol..guess I just don't like waste..LMAO
I'm not sure - I don't really like egg salad! 😄
