How about a video on how you attached the armor to the clothing?
Absolutely amazing, always wanted to do this armor, but had no idea how to get the chrome look by not having to use actual metal, or a 3d printed element! This is so helpful 🥰
Thanks, I'm glad I could help!
I have been looking EVERYWHERE for the best primer + paint + technique for getting this gorgeous chrome and this is PERFECTION. Such an amazing breakdown and explanation every step of the way, especially at the middle pausing to recap with the products liked up. Had to subscribe!! Can't wait to see more of your content!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy my content and explanations! :)
The graphite Beskar looks phenomenal.
Absolutely stunning work. Great job!!!
Thank you!
Tbh the Gray looks pretty good as a jumpsuit
Dude!!!!!!!!!!! You are a genius!!!! This looks absolutely incredible!!!!!!!!!!!! It looks soooooooo good!!! Great work!!!!
Thanks man! I can't wait to see your Mando helmet once it's painted!! :)
Great build, thanks, great video
You’re incredibly talented. It looks so good. I’ve seen so many complex builds requiring 3d prints, but you’ve found an affordable and effective way to do it. Amazing work!!
Well done Tristan really superb you made it look so easy but I know that was a lot of hard work you put in with top class results👍
finally!! the saga concludes! thanks so much
No problem, I hope you enjoyed it! :)
Graphite. Brilliant. 👍
Wow this really turned out amazing!!

You sir are a genius, I’m almost done with my build and it’s about paint time. Thanks for sharing
Thanks! I'm glad you like my work!
That Looks sigg Dude👍🏾
Impressive as always!!!
Thank you! :)
You've just gained a subscriber. The idea of using graphite is genius. I like how you stick to EVA foam, definitely gonna buy one of your templates in the future
Awesome! Thank you! :)
This is remarkable.
Thank you!
Awesome!!
Wow, so great!
Thanks!
Nahhhh this goes HARD … I’m making this asap and def subscribed bro 💯💯💯
Thanks!
Awesome work !!!
Thank you!
Very nice my friend. Very nice. This is the Way.
Thanks! This is the way.
Fantastic 👍
Thanks!
Una de las mejores que he visto hasta el momento, estoy haciendo una de bajo presupuesto pero sin dudas el grafito voy a tratar de conseguirlo
I never thought of using gray as the base. I think it looks more accurate to the show. Thanks!!
No problem! :)
Badass 🤘
Thanks! :)
Bruh this looks so good!!!
I just finished making my first attempt at foam armor, and came out wait rougher looking than yours. Definitely gonna take some pointers from your method!
Thank you! Making things look clean out of foam comes with practice, the more builds you do, the better they will look. :)
I never would have thought to use graphite powder. I was just hoping silver or chrome spray paint would work fine but I liked the way it looks so much in the video that I’m trying it out. Still have to actually cut out the foam and stuff but I’m just buying all supplies right now
Awesome! Graphite powder is pretty hard to work with so I recommend practicing on test parts before doing the armor :)
Super tuto. Merci.
Pas de problème :)
This is amazing! Could you do something similar with the other mando coloured armour? Like paint it and make it shiny so it looks real?
Awesome job! That silver shine is amazing.
Thanks!
Awesome job!
Just bought the templates for the armor and helmet.
I've been watching your videos over and over to get item listing and to give myself a heads up on what to expect. I do have a question regarding the finish of the armor and the finish of the helmet.
If I wanted to, could I finish the armor the same way the helmet is finished (black primer, clear gloss, and graphite powder instead of spray chrome)?
Yes! You can totally finish your cosplay however you want. Of course it will look better if the helmet and armor match
Sir, the armor is among the best i've ever seen. The paintjob is absolutely fabulous.
Well done!
Constructive criticism: the fact that the jumpsuit and finger tips are in the wrong colour kinda ruins it, but i completely understand that it takes time to complete a 100% accurate costume.
So again, well done and keep it up 'cuz your projects are amazing!
Would only plasti dip work for the priming? I've used it before and it worked perfectly with no problems, but I don't know if it will work for this, considering i need to make it look glossy and metallic.
Cool!
Thanks!
@@TristanMaker working on my own suit, lots of good techniques here!
Awesome!!
Is this flexible and durable enough for a foam sword? Or would it crease to much? If it isn't flexible enough could I swap out any of the products with something else to make it flexible enough? Also could I use golden gac 500 instead of spray max 2k clear glamour as the final sealer? I want to use golden gac 500 since it's cheaper than spray max 2k clear glamour
Hello Tristan, At the moment I am building this armor for my son. But I couldn't find a view of the two back plates, how they are arranged?? Can you please help me? Thank you and thank you for such a good work
If you can’t find the pledge what should you use to seal the powder graphite?
now all i need is some templates. been racking my brain on those lower leg parts
Great! My templates are available on my Etsy store, link in the description! :)
These video's are really good man! Will you ever do a attempt at a Season 1 Mandalorian Armor?
Thank you! Unfortunately that's not in my plans. But I am working on Boba Fett's armor right now if that's something you are interested in! :)
Awesome video! How do u get the chest, shoulders, back and other pieces to stick/stay in place? Do you just glue or velcro them to a shirt???
Thanks! Yes, I used Velcro and big sewing snaps for most pieces.
Great job! Incredible that you could make that out of foam! 👍 Where can you find the Cresta color graphite powder in Quebec? Do you know of a place near Montreal where they have it in stock? That would be the final touch for my build, thanks!
Thank you! I bought the graphite powder from Amazon
I made a different comment on this video before - so I don’t want to bother you - but for the revised steps of painting the armor does the Plasti dip go straight on the foam? Or does it still need a layer of Mod Podge first. I did a few test runs on foam, and I’m having trouble with the plasti dip bubbling and giving a rough texture.
Yeah the plastidip goes on first, no modpodge. I'm guessing they are reacting with each other
yes, might as well use the 'chrome paint' for silver being as it won't be chrome anyway!
Love this!! Is there an alternative to pledge? I have difficulty finding that plus i dont have an airbrush
Thanks! You can use Spray max 2k clear glamour.
Do you think its possible to apply masking tape and spray paint on top of the graphite powder? Maybe with a clear coat in between? I really want to use this technique and add some more designs on top of the chrome but can imagine the powder might come off or that the spray paint will react badly with the powder.
If you use Spray max 2k clear over the graphite powder and let it cure for 48 hours, you can apply masking tape over it. I would recommend lightly sanding the surface you want to paint after applying the masking tape to make sure it doesn't flake off.
Hey, mine came out really dark after spraying on the SprayMax gloss coat. Is there anything I can do to fix it?
i love your videos! i just find your channel, i also have a small props and art channel where i just finished my samurai batman cosplay!
I just gave it a watch, and it's amazing! Great work on all the details! :)
Can you please list all the paint and materials for the project!?
How well does the floor polish seal in the graphite? Is this something that has to be touched up over time?
It seals it really well, especially if you apply 2 coats like I did. It's just like a clear coat, but it doesn't ruin the finish.
I just finished my paint job! Overall I am happy with it, I did some further testing on some scrap pieces and was worried that the graphite was washing off when applying the floor sealer (similar to pledge), I thought my dark grey gloss spray paint was perhaps too dry and not tacky enough to have the graphite powder stick, so I applied the graphite at about 30mins. Unfortunately I think the same thing happened with my final armor, it looked so good after first applying the graphite and buffing, and now it’s back to dark grey after applying the floor gloss :( I used foam brushes for the floor gloss and went with as little pressure as possible applying it. Maybe the air brush is crucial for the pledge/floor gloss step?
I haven't tried applying the floor gloss with a brush, but I've seen other people do it and getting good results.
I'm not sure why it didn't work in your case, but if using an airbrush can fix the issue for you, try it out :)
What are some alternates we could use for the pledge to seal the paint at the end. I cannot find any pledge floor gloss, I need a different sealant.
You can use Spray max 2k clear glamour
Dudeeee ! Your work is truly amazing ! I'm making my own Mando suit and armor and your tutorials are helping me a lot ! Btw , I wanted to ask If any kid of Filler Primer gives the same result or if it'r mandatory to use the Duple-Color one ; because here where I live it looks impossible to find it XD Same for the Paint , I'm pretty unable to find the Rust-Oleum one ,even trough Internet stores , so I wanted to ask if I find a gloss dark grey color that match and have the same features as the one you show in your video ... Is it still good ?
Thanks! For the primer, just try to find one that stays a little flexible after drying so it doesn't crack. As for the paint, any brand will do, as long as you use a gloss grey. :)
@@TristanMaker Thank You so much !!!
Where did you find the jumpsuit at?? Amazing work!
Thanks! I sewed the jumpsuit myself.
you showed while doing the back piece you used a 2k gloss coat after painting, wait an hour, and then rub in the graphite. But then when you give an overview of the steps with everything lined up in order, you leave out the 2k gloss and go straight from the gloss gray paint to graphite. Do you still recommend the 2kgloss as a middle step for better results?
I left out the 2k clear because I only used it to save my paintjob. You could still use it if you want to. You can watch my latest video, on making a Mando helmet. I used a slightly different painting process there.
Hey man i was following your steps and one thing that happened to me that i was hoping you could give some insight for is that for some reason when i applied the filler primer and the gloss spray paint the contact cement that wasn't covered by foam was reactivated and became super sticky. So when i buffed in the graphite powder it would stick to the glue and not be shiny but rather matted. It ended up looking like dirt which wasn't too bad but how did it not happen to you? Hope you can help.
Wow, I have never heard of that issue before...
It could be many different things : Maybe the contact cement wasn't totally cured, maybe it reacted with the type of filler you were using, etc..
How did you seal the foam before applying the primer? Was it plastidip? If so, maybe you didn't give it enough time to cure. Plastidip takes a while to cure completely even if it feels dry.
any videos on painting the gauntlets?
Does it have to be a gloss black or grey before you put on the graphite? Cuz i did a silver chrome and am planning on putting graphite powder on it. I feel like it'll turn out fine.
From my tests a gloss grey gives the best results. The graphite looks good because of the gloss finish, not because of the reflectivness of silver paint.
@@TristanMaker well, unfortunately I couldn't find any graphite powder in my area, so the chrome spray is all that is on it. However, I am happy with how it turned out, so its all right.
@@biscuitboyz663 That's great! If the result makes you happy, that's what matters. :)
Do you think that the foam clay would work as a filler for cracks and seams?
Totally, that's something some people like to use. But I find foam clay to work best on big cracks. For small seams it's better to use filler.
Is there an alternative to Pledge? I can't find it in my country.
Hi, I’m looking to use the same method (5:23) but struggling to get black plastidip where I am (UK - it’s either unavailable or very expensive) best I’ve found is black/blue - will this be just as good as black? Will it affect the overall colour if I use a different colour?
You could use any color plastidip, or even modpodge like I show in my latest video about making a Mando helmet.
If I can't find Pedge Floor Gloss then could I use any other brand of floor gloss? Like Koblenz High Gloss floor finish?
I'm not sure but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Try it out! :)
HI! I followed your priming and paiting instructions, using the Rustoleum glossy dark grey before the graphite powder, but even after the floor gloss on my test pieces it looks pretty dark, dull and one is even finely cracked in the finish. I feel like that spray max might be a necesarry component. Do you have any other suggestions, or should I give the spray max a go?
It's hard to say what causes the issue as sometimes people follow the steps from the video and don't have any problems.
The spray max clear is for sure the safe way to go, but it's pretty expensive. If you are willing to pay for it, that's what I recommend of course.
Weird, maybe it has to do with temp and humidity when drying. Thanks for your help! Your work looks dope
Thank you Tristan for these amazing videos and tutorial! I bought the templates and have been working hard, I did a paint test on one of the shoulder pieces and ran into the same texture-issue that you did. Parts of it look great, and others have a texture/stippled appearance. I used all the same products you show in the line-up..any ideas what went wrong? Maybe the filler primer and dark grey gloss paint reacted with each other? I waited 4 hours for the filler primer to dry before sanding it and applying the dark grey gloss, maybe I will try waiting overnight for the filler primer.
I think it may just be that you need to let the filler primer cure completely (at least 48 hours) before applying the spray paint. Try that out
@@TristanMaker thank you I will try that!
Hey I’ve been wanting to make my own Mandalorian armor. Does the brand of the graphite powder matter?
Not at all, most of them should work
“Oh it’s beautiful”
-Director Krennic.
Hahaha thanks!
Using a test piece(saving armor for when decided on paint), using the method in this video and I’m still getting cracks and wrinkles on the foam. Is it possible your 1st attempt and repair made a layer that helped prevent wrinkles and cracking on your 2nd attempt?
I'm pretty sure that's not it since the helmet was painted properly on the first attempt using the same technique and I didn't have any issues with it. I would recommend doing some more testing until you find the process that works for you. You could also seal your foam using other products (flexbond and epoxy work well). If you want, you can try the canvas primer I used, since it worked for me. :)
Hey Tristan great vid! I'm following you to make my own Mando armor. I'm having some issues with painting though, I'm doing 2 coats of plastidip, followed by 2 coats of Rustoleum dark gray, and then buffing with graphite powder and pledge floor gloss, but it's looking a bit too dark and unreflective still and there is a bit of texture left. Think you could give me a hand on what I'm doing wrong?
I'm pretty sure the texture comes from the plastidip. To get rid of it you could add 2 coats of filler primer after the plastidip and sand it smooth to 320 grit. For the color, make sure you apply the graphite while the gloss grey paint is still tacky so it really sticks. And buff it as much as you can, the longer you do it, the better it should look. For the floor gloss, apply one light coat and let it dry, then apply a really thick coat. That second coat will be glossy when dry.
@@TristanMaker I did exactly all of that but somehow the second coat of wax made it look dull. :-( It actually looked glossy and shiny before I put on the wax coats and let them dry. Almost wishing I had left it alone and not put on wax.
Something weird I tried yesterday that worked! After my second coat of rustoleum, I immediately smeared it using my fingers over the areas I just sprayed. I got very smooth surfaces! But still the same as you, getting a darker chrome finish instead of beskar steel.
great job! btw can you make a video to show us how to make a simple star wars pistol like blaster
Thanks! Yes I really want to make a DC-15LE, I'll just have to find the time to make it.
Does anyone know of a good replacement for Pledge Floor gloss that won’t ruin the metallic affect? Apparently the Revive It floor gloss is discontinued and I can’t find it anywhere that isn’t insanely expensive
Did you have any luck? I'm running into the same problem right now, would love to hear what you used.
Can you polish the floor gloss after it's dry for a shinier finish?
I'm pretty sure you can but I have not tested it yet. But the floor gloss is already very shiny as is.
@@TristanMaker ok. Cheers!
Anyone have tips for forming the visor? Always seem to want to flatten the helmet. How to I shape it.
Would the pledge that comes in a spray can seal the graphite the same as the bottle kind?
I have never used it so I can't say, but I don't see why it would work if it's the same product.
Could you also use the clear/gloss clear coat instead of pledge on the graphite to seal it?
Yes, you can use the spray max 2k clear to seal the graphite
this is awesome! i can do this with other colors aswell right?
Thanks! Yes you could paint it however you want
I have the black edition of the Mando helmet and I can't actually wear it with the armour I've made from your etsy shop. BTW your templates are absolutely awesome! The armour is a very darker shade of silver. I'm going to have to make the helmet and use the one I bought only as a display piece now😮💨 is there any way to make the armor more 'beskar' silver? I've been using the same gloss grey as you. Would graphite powder still work with a lighter grey spray paint?
I've just bought Alclad ll chromium for my airbrush. I'll let you know how it goes. Sorry for the rant. I think it may be valuable to some of your followers here in regards to colouring beskar. Thanks in advance and keep up the great work!!
Hey thanks! Unfortunately matching the paint of the armor to the already painted helmet will be really hard. Normally, people just paint their black series helmet the same color as their armor.
In your case I think alclad silver or chrome is your best bet. But I'm not totally sure.
Thanks for the tip! I've just made my own Mando helmet from gathered PDFs online. After finishing it, I saw that you actually had some templates on etsy! Your templates are almost spot on just one thing though, the helmet from the side...the chin line to the back of the jaw line needs to be much steeper. Sharper. Otherwise, near perfect brother. AAA+
How do you get the pieces that don’t wrap around you to hold like the chest piece and shoulders?
I used big sewing snaps. One side on the jump suit and the other side glued to the armor pieces.
Would it work if I used the same process as the helmet to paint the armor?
Totally, you can paint it however you want! :)
Hi, I'm looking for the same paint as you, rust oleum 2x ultra cover dark gray but can't find it, where do you buy it please? could you put a link to each product you use to order them? thank you
I buy most of my supplies at local hardware stores in Canada so I unfortunately don't have links for the products. If you live in Europe, the products available to you will be different. I this case, any gloss grey paint will work.
question, on the final steps you skipped the spray max on the list, so are you not using that on the final piece or did you accidentally not list it?
On my armor, I used grey acrylic paint for the base color, and spray max for the gloss finish. What I would recommend is using the rust oleum gloss dark grey instead. So no, you don't need it. :)
Did you find that this powder buffed out well?
How do you attach the armor pieces (like the shoulder plates, and other assorted pieces) to the jumpsuit?
I use big sewing snaps and velcro
@@TristanMaker I see! Thank you for the reply, I appreciate it!
How do you harden the EVA Foam once you put the pieces together. I'm thinking about making a Boba Fett Armor
I don't really harden the foam, I just seal it. If you want it to be harder and more durable, you can seal it with 2 coats of epoxy resin.
Hey. How did you get your armor to stick to the jump suit? I'm almost done with mine and I don't know how I would attach it.
For most of the parts, I used big sew on snaps. I also used high strength velcro on some parts like the cape and ab plate. :)
@@TristanMaker Alright thank you. Also you nailed the Beskar look.
Thank you!
Sorry, if this has already been asked…can I skip the filler primer and spray on the gloss grey over the plasti dip? And since the Pledge is so crazy expensive, do u have any other ideas to clear coat it?
I can’t find any floor gloss in my area. Is there another sealer you can recommend?
Alclad aquagloss and Spraymax 2k gloss clear are good options
Dope! Can you do a 1313 boba fett?
How did you make the bandolier and can you make a video on it?
The bandolier is all eva foam, reinforced on the back with nylon webbing. It was made using the same techniques as the leather leg wrap. Unfortunately I won't make a video on it since I already have a tight schedule for other projects, but I'm sure you would be able to make one since it's not too complicated. :)
stupid question, I am about to seal the foam with plasti-dip, and I didn't realize it came in a color, does the color of the seal matter?
I doesn't really matter, but I would recommend using black so if for some reason you can see it, it won't stick out.
@@TristanMaker thanks. I used what I have. Hoping it comes out good. Gotta get it done for Halloween
Is there anyway you could list every material that you used in this project?
What did you use to apply the Pledge floor gloss? Also would it really seal it?
I used my airbrush, but you could apply it with a brush. And yes, 1 light coat followed by a heavy coat seals pretty well.
A bottle of Pledge is $50! Because it’s discontinued….any other ideas??
I heard quick shine floor finish by Holloway house is a great substitute
Why mod Podge if you sealed with Plasi dip?
