- Amazon's LOTR: The Rings of Power is getting DESTROYED! Ratioed trailers for both The U.S. and The U.K. and now they are deleting videos. Including this 'Super Fan' video featuring the 'Fellowship of Influencers' who, as it turns out, might not be the biggest fans. More on that in the video. Also, the backlash has gotten so bad. Fan sites are being edited to support 'The Message.'

I threw up when that “influencer” said that Sauron was hot and that he could fix him. These aren’t fans of Tolkien they’re activists hired to push THE MESSAGE.
Your not alone
I felt ill
He didn’t use the word “change”, but the word “fix”. Now imagine if a straight woman said she could fix him? You better bet he will be enraged and claim this is homophobia. These people are hypocrites
@@doobiestudios1107 I fixed it. Thanks for pointing that out.
I’ve never run into someone calling themselves an influencer, but if I did I’d tell them to F off right away. Influencers aren’t fans, they’re salesmen. Not very good in this case, either.
My god. It's like they said "get the most flamboyant, obviously gay black guy you can find to prattle on about diversity".
I'm mixed and gay af but that cliché only speaks for himself, it's infuriating to hear them brag about rEpResEntAtiOn, betch as a gay from gayville I don't care about representation, I want a good story and well written characters.
It is hilarious.
@@yannickdrmda5295 Exactly I didn't even know Ian the guy who plays gandalf was gay until many years after seeing Jackson's Trilogy. All that mattered was the quality of his acting not his sexual/political orientation.
I think Lamar from Revenge of the Nerds would have done a better job, but he wouldn't go on and on about "diversity and representation."
I couldn't listen to this guy for more than five seconds.
That “My gurrrl Galadrielllll” dance hurts me physically

Best quote I've ever heard so far on this subject:
"Considering how anti-industrialization Tolkien's work is, AMAZON making this series is like Saruman throwing an Arbor Day Party."
Damn!

I feel so sorry for LOTR fans. This must be like being stabbed in the heart.
are you a lotr fan sir?
Yes, stabbed in the heart with a Morgul blade.
Not at all. Btw, aren't the orcs black? At least in Peter Jacksons movies. Haven't seen a gay orc, but in fanfiction, gay elves are prominent lol
stabbed and twisted. like if they wanted to use the world and do their own spin off that would be fine. but now your altering the work that everyone loves and knows. that is where it isn't okay
More like forcing us to become their “representative Nazgûl,” and providing no other alternative.
These people are so incredibly arrogant trying to “fix” Tolkien.
This is so typical of Hollywood. They always have one of these jerk spokesmen who says, "we wanted to take and MAKE IT OUR OWN."
Imagine the sheer balls it takes to say that.
If its not broken, why fix it?
If Tolkien's works needed fixed, Tolkien himself would have fixed them. Hollywood has zero imagination and cant even begin to fathom that the man created a detailed back story for every character and place he put on paper. And each of those creations were individual and unique. Hollywood and people like these 'super fans' are so one dimensional, the only things they can relate to and imagine are the physical things they can see... skin color and sex. They are too stupid to understand there is more to a person than that and Tolkien's creations were more than skin color and sex.
@@livingin1984 It's just a franchise to them.
Wait until the White Riders show up. It's inevitable.
I’m black and was so big a fan that I started to even learn elfish, I’ve read all the books including the silmarilion. Amazon is freaking ruining something that has been close to my heart.. WTF
Same. It's very weird that Amazon tried really hard to convince us who may be black that we didn't like the show because we didn't like the diversity. If they played it cool and just really focused on the plot, even with some changes or new things I 100% would of gave it more of a chance. I wanted to like a LOTR show.
I went to high school with a very pretty girl who knew how to write elvish runes. A good narrative is always accessible afaic.
All this "critics are racist" stuff is so weird right? It is 100% the writing, not the diversity that's infuriating if you ask me. There's just not a single shred of the warm fuzzy tolkien-vibes! Complete and utter failure, i hope they stop now. Makes me sad but it would be better for everyone.
Dark-skinned people were part of the Tolkien lore from the very beginning. Some of the Easterlings stayed true to the Noldor, and others betrayed them. Sam mused on whether fighting in the war was a willing choice for all of the Haradrim. Tolkien knew there was potential for good and evil in all cultures and societies, the Easterlings and the Numenoreans and the Noldor and everyone else. There was no need to twist and break the lore to suit a misguided Woke agenda, none at all.
You read? That unbecoming a black person
Im a 30 yr old black man…growing up watching lotr and hobbit movies…I don’t recall ever watching the films thinking to myself “I wish their were characters that look like me” lol! I don’t know what these people are getting at…I just enjoyed the films and all it’s brilliance
Best comment... Just nailed it 👌
That's bc not everything is about race and normal people who aren't looking to start shit know that.
You know, I am white and about 50 but I wouldn't mind to see a LOTR remake with just black people in it. There could be a black Gandalf, a black Frodo, elvish people of color, hobbit PoC, Gondor PoC, each group with different characteristics, basically as described in the source material - except for skin color and maybe hair style. Black (and white) watchers could relate to the characters they like most, there would be a real choice for them. But this bit of "diversity" they added into ROP - what does the single black Elf help, and the Dwarven Queen? So few characters to relate to. What makes them special? Their skin color... - that's it. Almost racist. Hollywood hasn't understood.
"Fellowship of Influencers" ... they actually said that.
guess this fellowship fell apart before it started
Imagine the people that are ”influenced” by these ”super fans” 🤣
Influencers from the pit of Hell.
"Influencer" is an orc curse for "paid advertiser."
They also have other 'superfans', influencers, in their own respective videos in their own languages similar to the UK to promote in their own respective countries. At most they are five. It's in Dutch, German, French, Italian and Spanish. I dont know when Amazon will unlist those videos as well.

The reason why Tolkien is still relevant today is because he did NOT include politics in his works. He created something intemporal.

@@Thros1drug addictions don’t result in improved lifestyles or anything, really. I grew up in a time when we were told NOT to be "influenced" by other people. NOW being "influenced" by random strangers is how people get all their information, beliefs, knowledge, etc..... 😂.
If you have to "see yourself" or be "represented" in order to enjoy something, you are an insecure and emotionally unstable person.
NEVER have I ever had to impose myself into a character in order to enjoy a story...I would argue it's the a writers purpose to make the character and the story compelling no matter what race or gender they are, NOT for them to create characters just so you can sell identify with...you have actual problems if you're upset that you can't immediately latch onto a character because they aren't the same sex, race or have the same sexual orientation as you, if THAT is what matters most to you, you've lost the plot, figuratively and literally.
Someone said these are all people who have never been bullied, and I couldn't agree more
@Deep Moticons Situations, experiences, general emotions, love, fear, hate etc obviously. That's not what I'm referring to. I'm talking about physical (which is why I bothered mentioning race, sex and "identity") No, I absolutely do not need to see someone that looks like me, acts like me,is a member of the same sex as me, "identifies" the same as I do or comes from the same background as me.
In a general sense, you watch a horror movie to be scared, be put in suspense and follow the story given, or a fantasy to get lost in the adventure and fantastical creatures and locations that otherwise you could only imagine. The race, gender and sexual orientation of the characters involved shouldn't matter at all. The loss of a parent or pet, falling in love or being rejected are universal emotions anyone can connect to, not having your "disability" represented is not.
You can easily make a film featuring a character with a disability and still have those universal connections through good writing, tacking one on just for the sake of checking boxing so a viewer can latch onto them just for that sake alone is a ridiculous notion, and I'll maintain that if that physical connection is necessary for someone in order for them to enjoy it..they have problems.
Well said.

I absolutely LOATHE the idea that a piece of art must include a character that "looks like me" so that I can enjoy it. I'm a Slavic woman, but that hasn't stopped me from enjoying and loving films and books that have exactly zero white people or women in them. People who feel the need to have their exact subgroup represented lack imagination and refuse to get out of their comfort zone and try to see the world through another person's eyes.
When one is of such mindset that work of fiction (be it book, comic, film, TV show) must have your subculture represented even if that fiction is fantasy or SF - that is not lack of imagination, that is intolerance, bigotry and racism cleverly disguised as _diversity_
Sadly, what we are served today is literal rape of works of art to pander this _diversity_
It's because they lack empathy, the thing they screech about incessantly.
I'll tell you what having this diversity mindset does, it dehumanizes people who live by it. Skin color, ethnicity, and sex are perhaps the shallowest characteristics when it comes to relating to others around you and your characters. People are so much more than that, we relate to others through experiences both the good and the bad, through our beliefs and our hopes and dreams, as well as our fears and our pain. That's why we cheer for our heroes, no matter what they look like because we know the struggle and we share in the joy that comes when they overcome the odds. They inspire us. And occasionally, we feel for the villains because perhaps they represent our darker thoughts and feelings that we don't act on. Characters and people are incredibly complex, so when assholes come out and say I can relate to these characters because they look like me, they are missing the fucking point on what it means to be human. A great man once said something very similar, he said: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character".

When "representation" becomes more important than actual content, you end up with an activist dumpster fire. Congratulations Amazon, you've done it again. What a piece of trash.
Representation has always been the most important thing to people who are overrepresented.
I don't even understand this concept of "representation" in fiction in the first place. The very idea that I, as an audience member, need at least one character in the movie/videogame/show I'm watching to have the same skin color as me or be attracted to the same gender I'm attracted to is such a bizarre, alien notion. It was never something required by me or any of my friends growing up.
The way these young wokies talk as though "representation" is not only a necessity, but a necessity required by everyone, that everyone wants and needs it for themselves, is simply them projecting their own narcissism onto the rest of us.
I think doctor who is a perfect example of that. The whole idea behind a female doctor was not even bad. We already had "Missy" as a male to female timelord incarnation and she was an amazing character. They even casted a good actress as the doctor in my opinion. Yet they managed to focus so much on representation that the characters (especially the companion character) where dull and boring and the stories where general badly written. It felt diluted. They had to focus on to much and where not able to flesh out the characters.
@@ronrolfsen3977 Jodie never had a chance, she, like so many female Star Wars characters, was a victim of bad writing, and over emphasis on SJW Politics. The most ironic thing about this whole dilemma is, this series managed to rally all the LotR fans from around the world under one banner and unite them against one common foe. The comment sections of the trailers with everyone contributing the Tolkien quote (yes, it is not an actual quote by him, everyone knows, you are not the first to make this observation) in their own language really warmed my heart.

The fact that these people can only really associate themselves with people of the same race or gender is shallow and sad.
Amazon deserves this criticism for tokenism. They hired these diverse actors, and, instead of telling them tot all about how awesome the story was or how cool their characters were, they spent the ENTIRE press run ONLY talking about representation.
Then Amazon did the same thing with the influencers they brought in. They didn’t ask the influencers to talk about anything but representation.
And before any of you try to call me a racist I’m black, and I grew up watching Jackson’s trilogy. Truly, I didn’t need Frodo and Sam to be black hobbits in order to identify with the themes of friendship and loyalty.
When that influencer said that he wanted to see more people that look like him I cringed.
How messed up is it that to enjoy something fully the characters have to be the same race or gender as you?
Sounds pretty racist to me.
Exactly, it is racist, these people make everything about race. I don't understand how they cannot see the hypocrisy.

This hot mess is a prime example of how twisted and deformed our view of "diversity" has evolved into.
I was not born in a first-world country. I am not white. English is not my first language. Yet when I first experienced the world Tolkien built, the story spoke to me. Over the years, as I grew older, this connection only grew stronger and more personal. It didn't matter the cast was all-white; it told a fantastic story with universal values, courage, hardship, struggles, grief and being simply just epic.
This overplayed simplified diversity agenda is an insult to my intelligence - as I'm an animal who can only relate to others of similar appearances and nothing more. Especially when this so-called diversity is clearly getting in the way of the story and the world someone else built. Personally speaking, the more these studios try to spoon-feed and justify "the message", the more I will reject them. None of these race-swaps feel organic; they are done with laziness and arrogance. They can hide behind the woke flag and claim the artificial moral high ground, but I shall call this show a piece of woke trash. 💅🏻
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 I’m white but this diversity shit feels insulting for me to pander to. I don’t like these people because they’re vacuous, lazy opportunists with no morals. The fact they’re black, gay or female is besides the point.

The fact that "diversity" is openly spoken of as a reason behind these casting choices shows just how bad a decision it was. You don't hire people based on some political need, but because they fit the character they are supposed to portray and have the skills to do the job properly. Admitting that "diversity" was a consideration shows that they sacrificed quality to push their political agenda.

The more and more I see how they are deconstructing Tolkien's work with this series, the more I appreciate Peter Jackson's trilogy (although it's already a masterpiece) and I'm even beginning to appreciate the Hobbit trilogy enormously, which despite being a disappointment, It's nothing compared to this.
You should check the fan made edits of The Hobbit trilogy. It’s a lot better when they remove all the unnecessary filler and made up material.
Here are my suggestions for fan edits:
1) J.R.R. TOLKIEN’S THE HOBBIT aka THE MAPLE FILMS EDIT (my personal favorite).
2) THE HOBBIT: THE SPENCE EDIT
There are more floating around, but these two IMHO are the best : long enough (around 4.5 and 3.5 hs, respectively) to convey the story, most of the cartoonish CGI is removed and they look professionally edited. It all comes down to personal preference, but I chose edits that removed all the scenes I considered useless (and boy, there were many in 9hs).
The maple edit is more faithful to the book because it doesn’t leave some of its plot points out, like Beorn. The editor even color corrected the movie to resemble the original LotR trilogy, which I also prefer. There’s even a mid-point intermission (where Jackson originally wanted to be one, before the studio forced him to turn it into a trilogy), which is great if you are watching with kids or prefers a two sessions ordeal.
This edits made me appreciate a lot more all the accomplishments that Jackson and his team had with these movies. It’s like finding gold that was covered by dirt.
Ye. At least hobbit was solid. The actor of bilbo did a great job, familiar faces were there like gandalf galadriel, elrond, saruman. Some fillers were unnecessary but still .. That series is the real disappointment
Not to mention the fantastic job they did on Smaug.

For me, why I think Tolkien fans are this passionate about Middle-Earth's lore is that Tolkien is a hard read. I remember reading the books and constantly going back a few pages to understand what is happening. It took me a lot of time and effort to immerse myself in the world. Just reading the books requires work and when someone haphazardly adapts his work is insulting. It's downright disrespectful when the adaptation goes against what the professor intended.
I agree. I have this "problem" that I read really fast and my brain is too slow to process what I read. Recently thou (with Witcher and Dune books) I took a slower approach and I enjoy it way more.
Not a bad theory, however I would like to add something to it.
Tolkien's works contain spiritual undertones which make it a nearly religious work of fiction, and I personally consider it to be second in importance in my own life only to the Bible.
