  • Amazon's LOTR: The Rings of Power is getting DESTROYED! Ratioed trailers for both The U.S. and The U.K. and now they are deleting videos. Including this 'Super Fan' video featuring the 'Fellowship of Influencers' who, as it turns out, might not be the biggest fans. More on that in the video. Also, the backlash has gotten so bad. Fan sites are being edited to support 'The Message.'

Dark-skinned people were part of the Tolkien lore from the very beginning. Some of the Easterlings stayed true to the Noldor, and others betrayed them. Sam mused on whether fighting in the war was a willing choice for all of the Haradrim. Tolkien knew there was potential for good and evil in all cultures and societies, the Easterlings and the Numenoreans and the Noldor and everyone else. There was no need to twist and break the lore to suit a misguided Woke agenda, none at all.

You know, I am white and about 50 but I wouldn't mind to see a LOTR remake with just black people in it. There could be a black Gandalf, a black Frodo, elvish people of color, hobbit PoC, Gondor PoC, each group with different characteristics, basically as described in the source material - except for skin color and maybe hair style. Black (and white) watchers could relate to the characters they like most, there would be a real choice for them. But this bit of "diversity" they added into ROP - what does the single black Elf help, and the Dwarven Queen? So few characters to relate to. What makes them special? Their skin color... - that's it. Almost racist. Hollywood hasn't understood.

I'm talking about physical (which is why I bothered mentioning race, sex and "identity") No, I absolutely do not need to see someone that looks like me, acts like me,is a member of the same sex as me, "identifies" the same as I do or comes from the same background as me.
In a general sense, you watch a horror movie to be scared, be put in suspense and follow the story given, or a fantasy to get lost in the adventure and fantastical creatures and locations that otherwise you could only imagine. The race, gender and sexual orientation of the characters involved shouldn't matter at all. The loss of a parent or pet, falling in love or being rejected are universal emotions anyone can connect to, not having your "disability" represented is not.
You can easily make a film featuring a character with a disability and still have those universal connections through good writing, tacking one on just for the sake of checking boxing so a viewer can latch onto them just for that sake alone is a ridiculous notion, and I'll maintain that if that physical connection is necessary for someone in order for them to enjoy it..they have problems.

I'll tell you what having this diversity mindset does, it dehumanizes people who live by it. Skin color, ethnicity, and sex are perhaps the shallowest characteristics when it comes to relating to others around you and your characters. People are so much more than that, we relate to others through experiences both the good and the bad, through our beliefs and our hopes and dreams, as well as our fears and our pain. That's why we cheer for our heroes, no matter what they look like because we know the struggle and we share in the joy that comes when they overcome the odds. They inspire us. And occasionally, we feel for the villains because perhaps they represent our darker thoughts and feelings that we don't act on. Characters and people are incredibly complex, so when assholes come out and say I can relate to these characters because they look like me, they are missing the fucking point on what it means to be human. A great man once said something very similar, he said: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character".

This hot mess is a prime example of how twisted and deformed our view of "diversity" has evolved into.
I was not born in a first-world country. I am not white. English is not my first language. Yet when I first experienced the world Tolkien built, the story spoke to me. Over the years, as I grew older, this connection only grew stronger and more personal. It didn't matter the cast was all-white; it told a fantastic story with universal values, courage, hardship, struggles, grief and being simply just epic.
This overplayed simplified diversity agenda is an insult to my intelligence - as I'm an animal who can only relate to others of similar appearances and nothing more. Especially when this so-called diversity is clearly getting in the way of the story and the world someone else built. Personally speaking, the more these studios try to spoon-feed and justify "the message", the more I will reject them. None of these race-swaps feel organic; they are done with laziness and arrogance. They can hide behind the woke flag and claim the artificial moral high ground, but I shall call this show a piece of woke trash. 💅🏻

You should check the fan made edits of The Hobbit trilogy. It’s a lot better when they remove all the unnecessary filler and made up material.
Here are my suggestions for fan edits:
      1) J.R.R. TOLKIEN’S THE HOBBIT aka THE MAPLE FILMS EDIT (my personal favorite).
      2) THE HOBBIT: THE SPENCE EDIT
There are more floating around, but these two IMHO are the best : long enough (around 4.5 and 3.5 hs, respectively) to convey the story, most of the cartoonish CGI is removed and they look professionally edited. It all comes down to personal preference, but I chose edits that removed all the scenes I considered useless (and boy, there were many in 9hs).
The maple edit is more faithful to the book because it doesn’t leave some of its plot points out, like Beorn. The editor even color corrected the movie to resemble the original LotR trilogy, which I also prefer. There’s even a mid-point intermission (where Jackson originally wanted to be one, before the studio forced him to turn it into a trilogy), which is great if you are watching with kids or prefers a two sessions ordeal.
This edits made me appreciate a lot more all the accomplishments that Jackson and his team had with these movies. It’s like finding gold that was covered by dirt.

Amazon really messed up this time. They are messing around with the wrong fandom and the hate they get is well deserved. I am a huge fan of the books and movies and I grew up with them. To see what amazon did to tolkien's wonderful work makes me want to throw up and I am very happy that the movies were made before this woke madness...

For me, why I think Tolkien fans are this passionate about Middle-Earth's lore is that Tolkien is a hard read. I remember reading the books and constantly going back a few pages to understand what is happening. It took me a lot of time and effort to immerse myself in the world. Just reading the books requires work and when someone haphazardly adapts his work is insulting. It's downright disrespectful when the adaptation goes against what the professor intended.

Not a bad theory, however I would like to add something to it.
Tolkien's works contain spiritual undertones which make it a nearly religious work of fiction, and I personally consider it to be second in importance in my own life only to the Bible. Amazon attacking Middle Earth is like Amazon attacking a key component of my own personality and ethical core. I have never had such a visceral reaction to something like this, I've liked other franchises and seen them perverted but nothing has ever made me THIS mad.

When I was in college in the sixties, nerds were marginal. That was before the electronic age. A small knot of nerds used to wear button-pins saying slogans, such as "Frodo Lives" and other such slogans. These were very nice folks, though their entire social life was among themselves. Cleanly cutted, nicely dressed.
