I was born in a different country. I was raised to understand that man created all kinds of machines. For all sorts of tasks. But i did not see my first motorcycle till i was only 5 years old. This is that bike. The KLR650 has been my mind all my life. I will buy ride and when the time comes gifted to my children.

I started as a newbie mechanic at a motor sports shop. I did a first service on a 22 KLR and I immediately loved it. At that point in my life, I only like like 200 miles on a bike. I bought it and I can't complain about the bike. It is meant to be a KLR and nothing more and nothing less. We never get them in the shop to work on and everyone there loves the KLR.

It's a do it all on the cheap bike and I'm a happy owner as well. Gotto appreciate that in a machine.

Dump the plastic side cases. I broke one off on my first fall. Soft luggage is the way to go. Immediately dump the tires. If you only use the bike on pavement in decent conditions then I agree that you should use them. Going off road will require tires with better traction. I agree that the side stand is too short. I put a center stand on mine and will probably get a longer side stand. It's really a cool looking bike in real life. When I first starting looking at this review I immediately went to the last part of the video to hear the important message the author wanted to give us. After hearing the message I knew this guy is way different then the normal person making a review of the bike. I went back to the beginning and watched the entire video. I learned lots from this guy and I've been riding for 50 years. Thank you for a great video that gives way more information than just a bike review. It's a review of the real use and application for using this bike.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a positive message. Messages like yours inspire me to keep doing this despite YT very aggressive and unreliable algorithms. Very glad to hear you found your hour well invested. As for an easy fix for the short distance, I made a tutorial on how to elongate it functionally and easily by adding a hockey puck, so please take a look in my playlist for that. It increases the footprint as well. See you in the next review. Nik

A BIG THANKS! I’m a long time Goldwing rider. Lately I’ve had this deep desire to continue my ride, and keep going, after the pavement ends. I’ve been researching ADV bikes and really was undecided on the bike that was best for me. At 5’ 8” I was concerned about the height of the KLR. Your contribution was definitely helpful. After watching hours of reviews, yours was a motivator. Great review! I’m convinced, the KLR is the bike for me.

Greetings and welcome to the channel. Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to comment. I'm glad you found your hour investment in my video worthwhile. I too am an avid goldwing Rider and owner and have reviewed all my wings over the years including my first generation ones. And I also am the same height as you and think this will be a great intro to the ADV touring. I reviewed nearly every competitor in the single cylinder class on this channel in case you have more doubts, but otherwise it's a great bike to own. Good luck to you and stay in touch.

I'd watched just about every 2022 KLR video out there; hands down the best is right here. The paint scheme I totally missed along with everyone out there. A very valid point which you pointed out. I pulled the trigger a month ago and purchased a 2022 KLR Adventure model. I went into this knowing that this will be the last bike I buy and I know now it was a great choice. Picked up a lot of tips watching this video. Thanks for doing this. Excellent review! I had a first gen KLR for a few years. I bought it used and the doohickey was broken. The reason they don’t have many warranty claims is because there’s nothing wrong with the design. The problem is ham fisted wrench twisters who can’t be bothered reading the maintenance manual. They simply tighten it until it breaks.
The easy solution to the camo paint is a can of black Plastidip spray. It covers like paint but peels off when you want to.

Thanks for watching - I try to make the reviews interesting to watch aside from the information. I absolutely detest helmet cam riding down the street, talking in the mic "reviews". Scenery is super important and all my review are similarly long (this one is the longest) but all have attractive footage throughout. So if you liked this review and bike, please check out my playlist full of other 650 adv competitors, like the BMW GS or Sertao. And please consider subscribing cause the next review is the Himalaya (albeit I don't recommend that bike). Also, let me know if you need purchase assistance - I search for, locate, go out and evaluate the bike and paperwork with clients for 10% of the selling price (which I assist in negotiating down of course). Also, if you need local tainting or guiding, all that info is available on my website. cheers and see you around town!

I actually watched your review of the 2nd gen KLR to help me decide to buy the 2022 KLR. I got mine October and i am really happy with it! I love my new KLR. I am probably going to get a new windshield; but it is really perfect for me. I have not had a motorcycle in 20 years, and a great way to get back into riding. It is super comfortable, and enough power to get on the hightway and go where i want. I want to hit some back roads and go on adventures with it. I cant think of another bike that would fit me more for my type of riding; especially at the price. Able to do a bit of 2up touring which I love about my GW and able to do some of the gravel road/secluded fishing spot excursions that my beloved KLR does for me and of course the ST’s known reliability. Great review! It helps for someone to understand what the KLR is all about. The KLR is about actually going on your adventure. BMW/KTM is all about working your butt off to afford the payments, and then not having the time to actually travel. If I scratch my KLR, or ride a ton of miles, it is no big deal. A coworker of mine has a GSA and all he thinks about is depreciation from miles and scratches (and $700 tire changes). I think Kawasaki failed on the paint scheme for several reasons. First is that you want to be seen on the road. Second, as you mentioned, being perceived as military/police in any way is bad for a civilian. That is not only in non US countries. There are a lot of people who are hiding from the law. Where do they hide out? In remote areas that people adventure tour in. Case in point was a guy who was touring in Latin America on an old OD green KLR. He was also wearing military surplus pants etc. One of the cartels saw him figured he was CIA or something and held him hostage. People took up a collection and got him out when they realized he was nobody. He still lost everything including a chunk of his life. I am riding a happy yellow 23 KLR.

I’m sure the base model has the same generator as the adventure model and there are aftermarket power outlets available. My 2021 ninja didn’t come with power outlets but the plug is there in the wire harness to easily add one. Manufacturers save money by using the same harness in all versions of the same bike and not adding those accessories on base models. It cost more to manufacture separate wire harnesses so I’m sure it very easy to add. Same with aftermarket auxiliary light pods.

I really enjoyed the video and review.. Great points..good job.. However, I never had an EFI bike in 40 years. And never had problem with a carb on a trip.. High in the Canadian Rockies or winter starts below 20F.. So not a deal breaker to me if it has EFI or not .. Only problems are from bike sitting 3 weeks not using in winter. But this only takes a minute to adjust or to get fuel into the carb. 12k feet elevation have never been a problem. Little loss of snap In the throttle is no big deal. I think I would rather have a 375 lb DR650 and aftermarket tank than a 460 lb KLR.. And put a few comfort mods into the DR.

My experiences with the carb were informed by the intl adv touring and often poor quality gas would cause me so much trouble starting the bike in the morning that I'd have to worry about draining the battery, and having to park on a hill if needing to jump start the bike. I just don't enjoy working on the carb but totally respect those that do. It's a valuable skill. I wish I understood carbs better, but I never liked devoting half a day to taking it out and apart. Both have a good resale value but for the cash the klr is a great deal. The GS is in a higher price point so it wouldn't be the best comparison. Safe travels. Nik

Bought mine new Dec 22 and it has just over 9000 miles.no problems so far.stock tires were slick at around 3200 miles, rear anyway, so I put a set of e 07 + and it's almost time to replace the rear tire so they wear okay but are really heavy.about to bring it in for the fuel pump recall getting a little hard to start doesn't use oil, tailpipe clean as a whistle.I did put the lexx exhaust, no more power, less weight though so it helps.dont like the boiling gas and the fuel line next to head, cooler fuel would work better I think.refuse to ride in traffic if it's above 99 degrees or so, it's almost unbearable at red lights and stop and go heavy traffic ok on the highway when it's hot just not going where there's a lot of red lights.30 inch inseam I thought would be a problem and was going to lower it but after 9000 miles I don't even notice the height anymore.its a cheap, reliable bike.nothing fancy but does the job.basically the Toyota Corolla of motorcycles.

What a fantastic review. I’ve owned a gen 1 for the last 6 years and have been looking for a new bike. I love the Klr for the physical size. The only real downside is highway performance. Would you say the rubber mounting sufficiently solved the excessive vibrations?

Thanks for watching. I appreciate your question as well. It's definitely an improvement - I don't notice the fatiguing aspects of vibration with the new style foot pegs and handlebars. It's awesome that Kawasaki decided to invest into that. I never found the highway performance to be too off-putting especially if you switch out the sprockets - I have a16 tooth in the front and that drops the RPMs at higher speeds. Easy mod.

The second gen camo option is even more "militaristic". I really appreciate your review! You use the bike and accessories in real world scenarios. I'm wondering if your familiar with the frwy performance on the Gen 3 KLR on the 15 frwy from Escondido up the grades to Temecula? I really want a KLR with its single cylinder but am considering twin cylinders because of the freeways. BTW, I think your points on the appearance of the motorcycle is an excellent observation and worth serious consideration 👍.Myself I have liked my bikes to be visible to other motorists. Camouflage motorcycles seem counter intuitive, IMO. Any way great channel 👍

Thanks for watching and for the support. As for highway performance, I switched out the front sprocket on my Gen 2 and that helped bring down the RPMs. Now it stands at 5,000 RPM at 75 mph. They say for the new KLR there is not a lot of room to put in a bigger 16 tooth sprocket. You may have to change out the rear to a smaller one which has the same effect. But even in stock form I never found the KLR to lacking for the highway. I highly recommend you try one, I think Kawasaki has a demo days at one of the local motorcycle dealerships this or next weekend. The one in Kearny Mesa. Good luck.

Please consider subscribing to get notified when a review of my ex challenge goes live. That's my preferred bike in this whole class although now I'm riding the KTM 690. But yes that BMW and the KLR are now more on level with each other. I still feel the BMW is better off-road because of the lower weights and center of gravity. It feels like a more flickable and manageable motorcycle. Although I would not hesitate in owning the new KLR long-term. The BMW is harder to find and now is quite a bit older so I think the KLR is a better buy.
