Rewatched Kurzel’s movie for the first time since seeing back at its premiere in London in 2012/3.
Continues to be a truly shocking, brutal and grim depiction of toxic masculinity and warped family love in desperately sad, seemingly hopeless surroundings.
I’d never watched Nitram until last night, so as a double bill it was fascinating to see both the evolution of directional flair and the creative choices used to tell a similarly grim Australian true story in such a non-exploitative imagining.
Certainly not a fun night in, but rewarding and thought-provoking, no question.
Elevated horror.
Turning real-life tragedy into middle-brow entertainment.
No wonder Kermode adored it.
"It won top prizes Best Direction, Adapted Screenplay, Actor, Actress."
It wasn't nominated for Best Actress.
Does Mark ever do research before commenting?
Wow, what's your problem? 😂
Won at the Australian film and TV awards, dummy.
