- I've seen a few videos, tutorials, and tabs out there for this song, but none of them seem entirely correct to me. I think this is pretty close to how Elliott played it, so I wanted to post this video for any other guitarists who wanted to learn it.
As a note, I have a capo on the 2nd fret because my guitar is tuned down a whole step. The studio version of this song is in standard tuning.
Wish you gave me your number
Wish I could call you today, just to hear a voice
I got a long way to go
I'm getting further away
… If I didn't know the difference living alone'd probably be ok
It wouldn't be lonely
I got a long way to go
I'm getting further away
… A lot of hours to occupy, it was easy when I didn't know you yet
Things I have to forget
But I better be quiet now
I'm tired of wasting my breath
Carrying on and getting upset
… Maybe IÂ got a problem, but that's not what I wanted to say
I'd prefer to say nothing.
I got a long way to go
I'm getting further away.
… Had a dream as an army man with an order just to march in my place
While a dead enemy screams in my face
But I better be quiet now
I'm tired of wasting my breath
Carrying on, not over it yet
… Wish I knew what you're doing
And why you want to do it this way, so I can't go the distance
I got a long way to go
I'm getting further away
I got a long way to go
I'm getting further away
Ok, I very, very rarely am able to give compliments here on YT, but damn....that was great! I think that was pretty much exactly the way ES played it. Well done. Peace.
Congratulations! And thank you for such masterpiece.
Dude, amazing instrumental. You nailed every note! I was singing along the whole way. Thanks for posting.
Smooth as butter. Well done my guy!!!
BRAVO! That was a damn near flawless performance, simply amazing! You played it so gentle and elegantly, exactly how the song should be played (it certainly gives that emotion). Great job transposing the song by ear. What you play is far better than what any guitar tab website has posted for the chord chart or tablature. Anyways, thank you for that lovely performance
awesome cover! I'm using this to learn how to play it right now
stunning. matches up to videos of elliott playing it. i'll probably stick to drop d though, can't really keep those positions for that long.
nothing like a little e.s. to make the day more beautiful
Great job man. Way more intuitive than the drop d tabs I've seen, too. Also, it just struck me, but Elliott does a shape very similar to the one at :50 in no name no 3
Great. Thanks for investing the time, I'll definately find this useful in learning this song.
this is one of my favorite songs by Elliott, and you play it with such perfection. thank you for sharing...
Very complex but never show offy. Well done
Holy cow dude that is skill good job flawless
very well done bro I hope to one day play this keep it up
Amazing job, was really helpfull for me. thanks a lot
wow!
Sounds beautiful!
Excellently done. Though its left me with quandary of relearning it in standard tuning or stick with drop D, both sound great but this is probably closer to how ES played it. Many thanks.
Thanks! This is definitely the tuning Elliott used...there is at least live footage of him playing it this way, so I'd imagine the studio recording was performed the same way.
Yes!
Been looking around for a good version and this is the best. Thanks! cute baby too:)
Such a gorgeous song. I wish there was a simpler way to play it because I can't stretch my fingers like that.
jackie Starr there’s a bunch of tutorials that do it in drop d with the capo on the second fret, sounds pretty close and makes it easier
Excellent job
What kind of guitar is that? What strings do you use? It all sounds perfect - the way your thumb thumps the low E sounds exactly like Elliott. :)
sounds great man
perfect buddy, well done
This is perfect...thanks so much for posting. Every tab I've found is dicey at best. Apologies if this has been asked already, but do you have a link to a tab as you've played it here? I'd really like to learn and I can make out most of it from the video but need some guidance on certain parts that are unclear. Awesome job! -another Doug
great job
Can you tell me the chords or make a tutorial....i dont know...I really want to play it like you! You played so amazingly!
This is at least 99% right
but I should say, thank you for posting, helpful !
Other tabs seem to think this song is in drop D, but I am dubious and think you are correct. The only thing I hear in the song that you arent' quite doing is a little run in the second chord of the verse : "wish she gave me her NUM-BER" . just one little note missing there
It sounds right to me.
I don't know how tabbers can hear this on figure 8 and think drop d would be a good place to start.
***** Ya, elliott didn't really play in regular drop d very much. The verses of this song are actually a lot easier to play in drop d, I can see why people are confused. When you get to the "lot of hours to occupy" part though, it becomes obvious that it is not in drop D
Great job! I wanna know what tunning used it for this video...🙏
I might have cried.........
Doug Mosiondz Do you know what that strumming technique is called? im trying to learn it but its hard :)
Sorry, I'm not sure what it's called. The strumming I did in this video isn't exactly how it should be played anyway.
Nice playing though :)
Can't figure out what chords you're doing from 0:51 :(
Chords please
dun gud neegro
