    Hey everyone! I'm back after quite an absence for finals, my actuary test, moving, and summer classes (still in progress) and I'm planning on being a lot more active and bringing out new videos and explore different aspects of drawing I've been waiting to do forever.
    Like always, constructive criticism is welcomed and encouraged and suggestions are great too! I hope that this video helped some of y'all out and I'm looking forward to reading your comments!

      You mention in the video that you encountered the problem of having your edges line up. I think that is because you start with the three lines intersecting at the corner first. I think a better way to do it would be to draw the a face of the cube rather than the corner. This will give you more control in the angle at which your box sits and will make it easier to place in relation to the horizon line.
      Hope this helps 👍

      Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt kind of iffy on the boxes even after finishing the challenge. I guess looking at the people who post theirs on the subreddit, well, usually the most "perfect and pretty" are the most upvoted so it kind of skews the expectation of how it should be.

    Hey! I was glad to see you post your new video, because I've been watching all your Draw-a-box stuff and it's inspiring to see someone else as they actually go through the process of trying to draw better. It's great motivation to keep practicing and improving your skills.
    While I'm still not to the 250 box challenge itself, I know I'll get there eventually. As for you, yourself, I think your skills will improve quite a bit just based on your persistence alone. :)
    As for whether you should turn the page or not, I wouldn't concern yourself as much with how easy it makes these videos to watch, because while we do appreciate your documentation of the process as you go through it, it's still primarily about improving your drawing skills, so as Uncomfortable himself says, if you feel like you need to turn (rotate) the page.....turn the page! :)
    Anyway, keep going on this. I'm glad to see these types of videos and look forward to seeing more.

      Thanks a lot for the comment! I'm glad I could be of some help to you. I hope that this series of videos has a happy conclusion when I actually draw better in the end, but we'll see, haha. Thanks for the reassurance on the page rotating. Someone else told me that I should also model good habits for others who might be watching so I think I'll definitely keep doing it. Thanks for dropping by!

    I did the 250 boxes challenges recently and have to say, it was pretty tiring and intensive. I did 10 to 30 boxes a day and in the last 50 boxes i kinda started rushing them, so some pretty ugly boxes appeared in the end. I'll probably do it later on but right now i feel like I don't have that much patience. I'll probably do like 10 or so boxes a day mixing it with other drawabox exercises instead of just plain boxes.

      I feel that. It really is a long, long marathon. At first I thought it would be a piece of cake because, well, it's just boxes! But I think everyone goes through a dip where it's just SO exhausting and you want it over with. Good job for getting through it and good luck with the future of your boxes!

    You did better than I had drawn boxes than I had to stop for a bit I had a few important things that have to be done by Mon evening 1/21/19. but after it's finished I'll continue the boxes ...I did notice that drawing boxes were much tougher than it used to be when I first learned perspectives in the 3rd grade a guy that sat next to me doodled and I was fixed on the lines and boxes he had drawn so he gave me a few projects to work on I did well so Ed (his name) showed me how to draw animals horses was first then dogs and cats and birds at home my aunts and uncles bought me paints I guess I'm lucky it was much easier to follow along and I never got caught up with confidence issues. Later in Jr High school, our art teacher asks the class if we would want to draw, paint or both posters for the children in the local hospitals. I wanted to try so many different phases of art that led me into new projects. After Hi school, I was shown many ways to focus on art making it fun and separate from my work. Then I eventually lost the what made me excited and the passion I had for art now I'm retired and am working my way back into it...
    I will come back to see your 250 boxes completed..

    I know it seems too late after a year but to match up the inside line of the top plane, finish up the two other lines inside the box. More simplified, don't finished up the contour of the box and anticipates where do the points of the top lines will converge after you've ghosted the lines of the see through lines and placed a point of the 3 lines. Like, if you draw the Y there will be an Inverted Y and that inverted Y is your see through lines. So, finished that first after you've completed the side planes but not the top plane of the box.

    • @ItachiUchiha-gf4fz
      @ItachiUchiha-gf4fz Před 2 lety

      @@spoki1519 honestly, I can't believe you understand it. I couldn't even understand what I've said after 2 years🤣. Tho, I still draw the top plane first then the side vertical lines coner before the middle line(not the transparent one). Just to make sure they are parallel. Then I would draw the outside lines of the bottom plane and match that up to the top plane to make sure they are parallel. Next is the transparent inside lines, I would draw the vertical line first because that's the easiest part to draw then pick either one of the bottom transparent line and make sure that it's parallel from the top or bottom plane lines then just connect the last line.

    I'm about to start this one! Not gonna lie, it looks kinda scary. Guess I'll be drawing boxes the whole week.
    By the way, you mentioned in the video having to take breaks from art due to school and other stuff. I seem to always lose the habit of practicing after a while due to college and work and everything else. Do you have any tips for keeping motivated even when life gets in the way?

    • @Mithrilda
      @Mithrilda  Před 4 lety +4

      Good luck good luck! I think the important thing to remember is that it's not about motivation, it's about discipline. There will always be times where you don't feel like it or it doesn't seem worth it, but pushing through that feeling and doing it anyway is what will take you there. I'm sure you don't always want to study for school to go to work or whatever other responsibility you have either, but you do it because you have to. It's up to you to decide whether art is that important to you or not.

    • @Hargreaves00
      @Hargreaves00 Před 4 lety

      @@Mithrilda That makes a lot of sense. Becoming more disciplined with my hobbies and personal projects is something I struggle with, but you are absolutely right. Definitely not one session. That wouldn't be helpful at all. Split them up. And don't just focus on these dumb boxes. You can even just skip ahead to the next lesson while continuing to do a dozen or so boxes every day. Or pick up an art book etc. Just don't get stuck on drawing 250 boxes and definitely don't grind them out.

      Well, that's the whole point of the curriculum right? To push you and allow you to incorporate those new skills into the things you want to draw and he does that by getting you to start doing you'd own art from the beginning. If you're not into that (and I'm not), look into a different program. I decided to go with one that doesn't require any outside drawing for fun or personal projects or anything like that. Whatever you choose, go into it 100% and follow all the instructions.

    I think part of your issue is too many boxes per page. With that many you ended up making the vanishing point a lot closer then I did with 4 boxes per page. I experimented with vanishing point distance a little and I think the sweet spot is like 4-7 inches away from the box if that makes sense, if I made it too close it all got really wonky. I'm still only on box 156 so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
