Why is Hublot so hated? Probably because an angry Dutchman in Ireland.
GOD TIER!!
He said he is NOT an angry Dutchman-
Lol, it’s absolutely ridiculous
“Reeeee but HUBLOT uses ETA.”
So does most of the watch world….so did most of the watch world in their infancy.
“Reeeeee they use 316L steel.”
Ok yet again so does the rest of the world.
It’s absolutely ridiculous how much pull Nico Leonard has. Go look at their unico movements or better yet; the materials they use in making their watches.
Yep. You nailed it.
@@josephdaoud1268i think nico has a point though. Why pay that much for an eta movement. Matbe it's fine for skme but bot for me i guess. Bow the unico is something i want. That full sapphire watch is lovely
Because they successfully sell massively overpriced watches as status symbols. I don’t think Hublot sells bad watches, they are just way to much money for what you get.
Exactly! They don't sell bad watches... but are massively overpriced!
The Unico models are awesome though. I wouldn’t pay retail but at market price for around 12-15k, you get a bang for your buck.
Excatly at the right price Hublot is fantastic but that price is somewhere between 4-8k depending on the build but anything over that there’s to many better options.
So is every luxury watch... or luxury good for that matter. Not like a Hermes bag leather came from a magic cow, but somehow it's still tens of thousands. Rolex is a mass produced, machine made watch made from a metal worth next to nothing... and it can be yours for only $15,000!!
If you want recognizable status, Rolex is better than Hublot, then again also overpriced and unattainable with fakes abundant - yet we see people love Rolex and playing cringe AD games and somehow have no self-awareness
I just generally don’t find them visually appealing but just because something isn’t for me doesn’t mean there’s anything that’s wrong with it. It’s a very silly thing in pretty much all parts of culture that we vilify or rank things based on preference as though it’s a fact.
To be honest, I don't see why Hublot is so hated for its price point considering how most watch collectors are willing to pay multiple times more than what their watch is actually worth. In terms of design, they are far from the most gaudy, with RM being some of the loudest, most in your face, and most overpriced watches on the planet.
I really love the Hublot Andrew is wearing, I think they're just fun watches that cost way too much and are often way too big
It’s a rad watch, make no mistake ✊🏼
@@Timeandtidewatches keep it, or send it to me lol
So many people here state that the watch is overpriced. Based on what exactly?? The random decision by many that it should cost a certain amount??? C'mon people, stop being sheep. (No, I don't own a Hublot. I can't afford one. )
I would buy a Hublot just to piss off the haters😂😂😂
I kinda did the same thing with my two tone Rolex Datejust with diamond hour markers and mother of pearl dial. Super flashy and flamboyant to piss off the haters. An anti-WIS watch.
It is almost as if the buyers are knowingly saying “I’m so rich, I can afford tasteless crap and don’t care”. So definitely an anti Dutch (and presumably Scottish) watch. A Christopher Ward also has a generic movement but their price quality ratio is excellent.
You underestimate the tastelessness of the Dutch. They don't mind a bit of inappropriate flexing.
Why Scottish ? Dont follow your track.
@@Chrissepisje 🤣 was not so much referring to the lack of taste, in fact very much so for a lot of my countryman, but to the Dutch habit of not liking to spend (unnecessary) money.
@@me-cq7wv same frugal mindset as the Dutch I presume.
Christopher ward do have some in house movements too with 5 day power reserves 😊
I just don't like their designs, no hatred involved.
This was a treat! No wasted words, every comment is a powerful insight. As much as I like AET, you are the stellar trio of CZcams horology.
Loving the energy but why does there have to be a winner? The Beatles and the Stones both rock, right!
@@Timeandtidewatches right, unless you have “Mick Jagger” - aka Andrew Mcutchen - singing Yellow Submarine 😛 I suppose what I was trying to say is that as much as I like AET it feels shallow at times, except for Andrew’s sharpness that keeps the show on its toes. It was great to see the fun and entertaining depth of this Hublot conversation. I used to follow a lot of watch channels but started to realize how repetitive and “boring” the content is. AET has the chemistry, format and content ideas spot on but the conversation is not keeping up, again, except for Andrew. Not to mention the excessive BJ straps and Bamford incidental plugs. I know this opinion is a bit harsh and possibly unfair for the AET team but it’s honest and from a genuine fan who watches every episode, yet with decreasing excitement.
I have Hublot(s) along with Rolex, Omega, JLC etc. I love the total clarity of the dial, the fact it wears really well and...... the movements are dead cheap to service :P
That's because the movement is usually cheap.
@@untouchable1511 Sellita that have a Hublot rotor. As I say, not going to cost a fortune to service unlike Rolex. And it keeps better time than my Explorer II
Hublot were founded nearly 20 years before a Rolex watch made entirely by Rolex was even a thing.
Also, watch resellers like to have a punching bag brand on social media to use as the bad guy to their preferred brand.
One term: mark-up.
The cost of production vs the final price tag is a crazy ratio.
The Big Bang the guy is wearing looks great. Not sure why the hate, what should they be doing? Creating yet another Submariner clone or like Omega beat their 60 year old designs to death to squeeze as many bucks out of them as possible?
Guy wearing the hublot here 🙌
A fascinating, insightful listen. Thanks, gentlemen! 👍
It's ated because of its silent "H".
Everything sounds good in a French accent
After all the hate Hublot is getting, i kinda want one more and more.
If there is such hatred for Hublot, how are they surviving and thriving?
Because we live in a watch geek echo chamber that represents a tiny portion of market share 😂
I don’t have a Hublot. Once I tried the full crystal Hublot watch with a highly expensive price. Then I find it uses a movement from another watch brand. It make me doubt why such expensive watch can not use its own best movement.
Hmmm, imagine if Nico Leonard did not exist, would Hublot still be as hated????? For me, if someone like George Bamford likes them, that is a glowing recommendation. I think they are really overpriced, and quite ugly in general, but horses and courses!
Lol I don't think Nico has any an influence over the watch world (except maybe youtube kids). If someone has the money and interest to buy a Hublot, they most likely don't know or care who Nico Leonard is.
@@ytr4 I am not sure; I think that any sensible person would do some research on any watch they are interested in buying, even just looking at reviews on CZcams. reviews can help you see things you may have missed on something. For example, if someone wants a field watch, there are so many to choose from, but most reviewers all tend to agree that the Hamilton Khaki mechanical, not the auto, is the best field watch to get (I went with the auto). Fair points by you though.
Most people in the watch community prob have no idea who Nico is. Just because you might be new to the watch world, Hublot has been around since 1980. People have had strong opinions about the brand since then.
@@tacomn Once Hublot has actual resale value then everyone will jump on it, RM was also a niche new brand and HATED by watch nuts... then through low production supply and boosting marketing and demand RMs started becoming more rare and more expensive on the secondary market like Rolex, then magically every enthusiast LOVES RM. Funny how that works...
Andrew sums it up perfectly. The stuffed shirts should stand aside and keep buying Rolexes while the rest of us all have some fun.
👊🏼👊🏼
I would’ve loved to hear Andrew’s take on Hublot. Please do a follow up and tell us lol.
The biggest gripe for me is the screws in the bezel. You pay over the odds for something and they can’t even put the screws in symmetrical? Maybe that’s just OCD, or maybe there’s some sort of reason behind it, but the fact nobody talks about it? That’s personally what I hate the most!
Nobody can torque multiple screws and have them all aligned
@@btt449that why the person above said , they could use symetrical screws .which would made them stand out less
@@btt449 AP does it with the royal oak. it's just engineering
@@MrAshar101 There is no such thing as symmetrical screws
@@nemesis4035 AP does not use screws. Do you not understand the difference between a screw and a captured bolt head?
The AP does not even need the slot it is there solely for looks!
Not a fan of Hublot, but I don’t think the brand deserves this kind of hate when RM is even worse.
Craftsmanship-wise both brands are top tier and personally I’d much rather wear an RM than a basic ass patek
An RM has much more innovation than Hublot, what you talking about 😂
I was at an RM boutique….tried to wind the Rm035…crown fell off
The issue with HUBLOT is a fat Dutchman went ahead and made memes about them.
Have RM ever threw a cheap generic movement in a watch ?
RM is miles ahead Hublot in innovation and craftmanship. Don’t like either of them but Hublot throws cheap movements in and asks alot of money
it is funny how all jumped on "hate hublot" train without giving it a second thought ... same as the "godtier" crap ... anyway thank you both for a nice interview and for thinking for yourself 🙌
Is Norqain, with JC Biver whispering in their ear, making a similar journey as Hublot at a lower price bracket? Think about it. Innovative approach and materials, quirky yet traditional designs, quality movements, similar wear experience, slightly overpriced.
Interesting take. I would buy a Hublot if it had a Zenith movement.
It would be loved
There are multiple hublot models with zenith movements - including Spirit of Big Bang models that have El Primero movements 👌🏻
@Timeandtidewatches yup. Really want the full sapphire watch
Shit that’s a few pennies that one 😅
@@Timeandtidewatches gotta get it haha
24:50 Great advice and overall a really good show. 👍
Enjoyable Chaps thankyou!
Is it just me or the Hublot in the B-roll just looks delicious
Yes, very clean and fresh
People hate Hublot because Hublot is almost designed to be hated:
1. Number of fucks given to pandering to watch geeks on stuff they care about (like nice safe design and parts sourcing) - nil
2. Focus on stuff watch geeks dont understand (like actually doing original design) - 100%
Worse - the brand revels in the hate, it has disdain for the people that hate them which of course makes them hate them even more.
Damn, some truth bombs in there
Why can’t they line up the damn screws properly???? I wouldn’t buy any watch over $1,000 with that kind of annoying finish 😤
I’d rather wear a Hublot than and Invicta, that’s for sure.
Same watches
I’m sold
Invicta is the the king in Garish!
Different strokes for different folks! Choice and variety!
I think I can cover this question in just a few lines, cheap movements In expensive watches.Obviously not all but that’s where the hate stems from
Can you please do a review on the Mido Multifort TV big date?
I'm not a Hublot-Hater, because I can't hate watches ! Somes watches are, in my opinion, pleasant and beautiful. Others just not. And as I am more Vintage and 2-handers; so a Big Bang.... But I habe one in 36 mm I love a lot, with just the word "Service" instead "not for re-sail". A little quartz watch which they made available to customers during the repair or revision of their watches. Also a great idea and such a funny watch ! Very nice discussion with a lot of knowledge, humour and between very nice guys ! Thank you Sirs.
It's hated because CZcams's Watch Kardashian hates it, and people follow their influencers.
Or he pointed out why they are overpriced fashion watches 🤷♂️
@@jamied931How are a Big Bang Unico or a Meca-10 „fashion watches“ and why are they overpriced compared to competitors? Please enlighten us.
Nothing wrong with an Valjour 7750! Remember, in the 90s IWC lanched the "Il Destriero Scafusia" the then most complicated watch for abou 400'000 CHF, with a heavily modified 7750.
Oh yeah for sure - it’s a fcking masterpiece ébauche 🏆
I'd rather have a Hublot than an RM, personally.
Really? You wanna pay that much for an eta movement?
@@mrparkx2 If you would do your own research instead of blindly following Nicos opinion, you’d realize that most Hublots use inhouse movements (which are pretty great).
@@mrparkx2 or pay a million for a fashion statement? All day. Even if they did run an Eta, which I don't think they do.
@PepsiRolex I misworded sorry, and I don't really follow others for watches. What I meant to say was that their entry lines are a modified eta, which I can't justify the price. Now, the unico I like, but I personally feel like there are better watches at that price
@dire67 you do know there are many watches at that price point, right? If you think only looks are important, go buy Armani watches or casio. Also, why are you trying to compare hublot with patek? They use modified eta, try comparing them with IWC entry level or microbrands. Eta movements are something you can buy under 500, and they sell their watches for more than 20k. What's the difference between buying that and buying a Porsche with a Kia engine? Also, those who buy million dollar price tag are probably billionaires. For them, a million is what 10k is to us
I love my Hublot...
Love Hublot looks. Lil big for me but its the price tag that keeps me back when there's better options in their price range. Imo*
After watching this i understand Hublot a lot more ,great stream.
great broadcast
…well, at least the gentleman from Tide & Tide wasn’t too defensive…whew…
…i like Hublot fine, and if i was a Formula 1 driver or Russian oligarch i would own one or two…fun bit of art and fashion, why not ?
IWC use the 7750 and their prices are pretty expensive.
What’s with people and the screws being out of alignment. That’s what screwed do. It must drive these people crazy when they see a crown at 4 o’clock. Thanks guys
It's the widely misunderstood comparison with AP - who do not align their screws. They engineer the screw heads to be on the back of the case.
Hublots issue is that most of the entry price watches are boring and over priced.
Most of the cool stuff is upper 5 to 6 figures.
But every once in a while they will do something cool at a sane price like the meca 10
Meca 10 is so big tho - that’s why Andrew chose BB 42mm
I've never heard of Hublot. Then again, most of my watches are $15-$20 Aliexpress models!
Let’s Go Andrew, Andrew and Tom!!!!
LFG
Gary Lineker wore a Big Bang all through the last World Cup. Put me off for life...
The misaligned screws is what does it for me. Genuinely baffled how they cant align those and still sell for an insane amount of money
I suspect that's an integral part of their design & the screws are intentionally not meant to be aligned.
@@richardc1792 me too......
They could atleast use screw heads that are symmetrical that way dont have to even align them .
They look like a Casio G-Shock with too much bling!! 😂😂
I bought a fake Hublot, turned out to be better than an “original”
Better resale, lucky you
I like Hublot. The Classic Fusion is clean. They are just overpriced and they would benefit from in house movements for all their watches.
Great video. Yes...Hublot is bright and adventurous, unlike a Rolex. I can't afford either of them after writing a check to payoff my mortgage.
That Nespresso one is dope AF.
Tom sums it up about what Hublot is "I think alot of people strugle with the fact that sometimes it's not for you and it's for someone else and that's fine"
Tom is a wise dude
I don't think the watches are bad however, they are lacking what a lot of brands in their price range have - heritage. Rolex didn't start out as a heavily priced watch, it was a tool watch. Omega wanted to be the last watch anyone needed. Tag Heuer have a plethora of brands under them that have mass heritage. Maybe we'll look at it differently in 50 years.
they're the Beats by Dre of the watch industry 😂
The more and more i see them hublo's in these video's, the more and more i like them. More and more i want one.....damn influencers
There are some Hublots I wouldn't mind owning. Forget the haters, it's my wrist, not thiers.
If they lined up their screws they would go up tenfold in my eyes. Even on the sapphire case, cross-eyed screws everywhere
The only minor difficulty I have with the Nespresso + Hublot collaboration is not with Hublot but with Nespresso. Can I see George Clooney wearing a Hublot? No I can't. I really can't.
Hmm, I saw him in full white linen in Mykonos recently and my white ceramic BB 42mm and it would have been preeeetty hot on him tbf
Ps Andrew here !
IMO the only thing Hublot absolutely does well and others should emulate is the massive choice in materials.
Marketing.
AP was not based on a porthole. It was based on diving helmet. That why it is octagonal, not round as a porthole. Have you ever seen the octagonal porthole? I have not.
I bought because I liked it. It dressy and sporty. Hublot should work on its promotion and use own movements only, There material researchers and designers are great but should surprise more often.
I would like to see Slash and John Mayer discuss guitars and watches and let’s see what debate on Hublot unfolds
I lost it last week when Britt said Hublot does what they want they don’t care how many times Nico poops on them 😂 like thx for that image
Yup. I agree with Nico, but Britt is 1,000,000% right. I’m genuinely glad they exist and there are a few models I might be interested in assuming they knocked a zero off the price. Nico also doesn’t like Grand Seiko, and says they are a bad investment at the same time he says buy quality watches that you like that aren’t fake, and not for investment purposes. (To be honest he has said some good things about a few models of Grand Seiko). Remember heirlooms, gifts and simply items with emotions attached are always more valuable. Even the angry Dutchman agrees that my crappy Seiko 5 is worth way more then my Daytona because my children bought it for me and the Daytona was just a stupid flex, (also as proof to myself I could get one and deserved it).
@@john-paulsilke893 Seiko 5s are great, and you do not worry when hearing one about some scally trying to rob you!
Brittttttt ewww 😰
Some of the designs are very nice (like that black white obe) and some of the designs is the missing link between Invicta and Jacob & Co
“If you don’t like it get yourself a Rolex explorer” 😂
No matter how much I like the cool things that Hublot does, it always seems like the kind of watch that trys to hard to be special. The look of the watches is just abrasive. Cars are a great example of how angular designs or designs with rivets and exposed screws can be taken in very unique directions. But I feel like the amalgamation of all of that in Hublot watches is out of proportion. The brand is relatively new; no matter what direction they take their watches, there will be criticism. But there's a reason why there's SO much criticism. I hope Hublot realizes this.
I like most of the styling, I can't stand the screws being misaligned
lazy / poor craftsmanship, people still line up to defend it and hand over their money though, lol.
Hublot make a fine watch
Enjoyable episode. Andrew is a legend.
Btw Lake Tahoe is a white chrono ceramic, better looking, cheaper, better?
And yes in terms of branding/sponsorship these guys don’t give a shit they are wildly successful.
If Floyd mayweather condones these watches even if they were made of desiccated crap they would still sell
Good luck getting a Lake Tahoe! In any case, this one has that Storm Trooper black ceramic case-middle that takes it to another level. Kisses, Andrew
Love my black Hublot chrono ! it's my everyday watch.
i going to end up hating u guys Im way down the rabbit hole, know I cant afford most of the watches, and I havent been a watch person before, but this stuff is fascinating and now I want a new watch and I dont usually wear a watch, hilarious! Thanks I subbed and now Im checking out your pods. (Sanford, NC, USA) Giving me some good binge content for awhile.
Not much annoys me more than hublot not being able to align their screw heads for the promo shots. Especially when they are such a prominent design element.
No screws align on any brand. That includes Patek Philippe. If they do align, they are likely not screws.
I agree. It hurts my eyes. And yes, they can align them.
@BobbyDazzler888 100% they can engineer screw threads to have the heads align. Its not unrealistic future technology. I'd actually be happy for them just to photoshop it for the promos. It just looks sloppy.
@@nikc1313 The process of aligning threads is called "Timing" or "Clocking" and while it's easy enough to cut a thread in the same place relevant to the head slot on a selection of screws, aligning those screws to the same position using the exact same torque is not. Friction between the thread on the screw and the thread into which it fits is guaranteed to be different thread to thread due to the microscopic surface variances in the metal and so fitting the screws to provide the same pressure around the perimeter of the bezel would absolutely result in the heads not being aligned. There is a risk that if a ceramic bezel is secured with differing torques on the screws around the edge that it could shatter as the stress would not be uniform throughout.
Of course, Hublot could use the same method deployed by AP and fit dummy screw heads on the front of the watch and have the actual screws fitted through the back of the watch. This has been done for years and nobody seems to get bent out of shape about slotted screw heads being present on a hexagonal head fitted into a hexagonal recess and clearly a pointless design cue rather than a functional screw. Look at the back of a RO and the actual screws are all over the place because that's how actual screws work in the real world. At least Hublot is being honest about it.
Having recently picked up a ceramic Bell & Ross, I was really pissed off that the three part case now features captive threads with fake slots which align rather than the functional screws on the two part case which did not. I looked at realigning them but the shanks are square and can only be in two positions so I'm quite literally screwed 🤣.
You can get a black polished minute repeater tourbillon from Hublot for under 6 figures yet all these sheep pretend it’s a bad brand cause they saw so online. People just dickride the same brands and hate anything that’s actually creative
No idea, but they make good watches !
Look guys, great episode and all but could we please ban Andrew McUtchen from being on camera? It shouldn't be legal for a watch nerd to be that handsome.
Shucks dude 🥰
Every Hublot picture should come with some kind of trigger warning... THE SCREWS! The fact that for a watch at that price point not having the screws aligned properly is an utter embarrassment.
I noticed that too. First I thought they were going for some artsy pattern but it doesn’t seem so and those are watches in promo shots. They can’t even find few watches where the screws are placed correctly
AP royal oak doesnt align their screws either. Check their caseback bro.
@@chancebananathe case back is not the issue at hand here though. It is the screw faces on the front of the watch and where the bracelet connects. There is absolutely no excuse for that!
@@patrickhandyside9490 Bro you ppl argue that at such price brands should at least align the screws. Now you're protecting AP for not aligning the screws just because they are at the back ? lol. C'mon where's the "ATTENTION TO DETAILS" from the 30K watches designed by Gerald Genta?
I am so upset that mommy and daddy are still fighting.
I love Hublot. Great video, Watchfinder, thanks for uploading. I love Rolex also but it is too common in the watch community, because everyone has one.
i wear tag connected and it is similar to hublot case i say. im not into mechanical things but their cases are amaaing so hublot is kick ass compare to rolex for example.
Maybe because many people can't even look at them...Being expensive but weird pushes the people away. To me Hublot's philosophy seems to be: If you don't like me you don't know watches. A self respecting company should have bunch of styles for buyers with different tastes. That's the formula that gives Breitling for example much better revenue.
I gotta say I don’t hate Hublots but most of them aren’t my style. That being said that stormtrooper Hublot Andrew had there is quite on point. It’s the same story with Richard Mille(except on this one I straight up can’t afford one vs me being grossly financially irresponsible with most Hublots) there is a couple models I love but largely not my jam.
I like Hublot. I think their design and bold and unique.
If only they alligned all their god damn screws!!
“Why is hublot so hated?”
Maybe because of the quality being shit for the price, using the same movements as a $500 Hamilton in their $5000+ watches, blatantly ripping off other watches (like the Cartier santos and AP Royal Oak), and the biggest reason
Nico Leonard
Hublot is if AP and RM had a child, but with an extra chromosome

Regardless of taste, this in not a 20k pound watch.
In a word: tacky.
It represents the worst Look At Me mentality of watch collectors.
About ambassadors they do have the best male tennis player of all time technically and still playing. Djokovic. He has the most grand slams of any male tennis player and if he wins one more he will be tied with the most grand slam winner female, Margaret Court.
If he wins two more, which is def possible still for him in his career, he will hold the most grand slams ever in tennis history.
If price is the main issue, people must also have the same distaste for Rolex models with ungodly premiums and towards those who buy them
A Rolex movement in ss is not worth 40k. More transparency and upping their game on the movements would be better for consumers, but ultimately, it is not my money so I do not care very much. Let people spend their money on what they like. A brand's perceived worth is not limited to the raw cost of production anyway.
One absolute reason, is the ridiculous over priced service expenses ! We have first hand experience. Poor quality watch, expensive, crappy bands, I could go on. Terrible resale. Our service quote well outweighed the actual cash value. PASS … NEXT !
