Great to see you for the first time this evening with Voja and Kits (and to have my question discussed - Gallery 3, etc. ). My question for you - where or what is the setting for being able to so easily make a “to do note” by dragging down from the top bar while in an app? 7:12 in your video. I don’t seem to be able to add a note list function n my control center which I can access by swiping down from the top of my Note Air 2. Thanks if you can answer this for me!

Hey@@mscargill1, Welcome! I have Todoist installed and it adds that option. I think this is common practice for Android apps, so try installing your todo list of choice and see if it adds it as a configurable option. If not, Todoist will definitely work.

I've been using BOOX Nova 3. It's functional but I have concerns regarding the quality of components used. The battery died after 2 years despite the device being used only about 2 hours a day (and turned off after each use)
Customers also report issues with a mainboard. The repair cost is steep and you also have to pay for 2 way shipping which is about $50 (50-70% of new device).

Great review! I've been researching all 3 devices you mentioned and although the feel of the Remarkable is the most polished, not having back-light, ebooks, easy annotations to PDFs, and synching to One Note or Google without paying the Remarkable cloud subscription were all factor that made the Remarkable a terrible option for me. The left-handed experience is very good. I choose to flip the tablet upside down so that the pen magnets to the left side, but that is completely optional. The only quirk I have is if you use the tablet upside down there are a few Android apps that don't honor the Boox's orientation and they appear upside down, but those are few and far between.

For an eink device the note is good for writing and drawing. Lots of menu options for drawing and adding layers. Many templates compared to Scribe and Elipsa 2E. Also nice to read all my nook, kindle and kobo books in one place in eink. I love the thousands of free ebooks in the store. I use it to journal my thoughts and keep track of my bank account transactions. Also the Note and scribe stylus are interchangeable and work on both devices. I am not too happy with the reading experience. Page turning is a bit sluggish no matter which refresh mode you choose. I like how you can handwrite on all ebooks even nook BUT it converts writing to text unless its a free book from the Boox store ( Project Gutenberg I assume) then you can write on book. Word of warning, its hard to set up and figure out at first.

Hi Brandon. Thank you for the quick and thorough video. I've had the original Note Air for quite a while. I've tried different pens to get that "scratchy" pencil on paper feel that you mentioned but so many of the styluses have the nib type that feels like a grease-pen on glass more than writing. Can you tell me which stylus with an eraser that you said you like to use instead of the one that came with NA2? Thank you, and I look forward to more Boox videos from you. Wouldn't one without Bluetooth be just as good? I don't want to order something in the $15 range and end up with a cheapy knock-off from Amazon or even Ebay. When you say the white tip? That's one of the two types it comes with correct? A light and a dark. I also have an S7 tablet. It's nice to use the S Pen with my NoteAir and NovePro, but it can do unexpected things on my tablet. For the white tip, yes I'm using the one that comes in the box, but not the one that comes pre-installed. Let me know if you have more questions!

@@BrandonKBoswell S Pens are Wacom EMR pens. Most of the S Pens aren't internally any different, though there are those with Bluetooth.
To be clear, they do not need Bluetooth for writing, erasing (via button or end eraser), or hovering (on supported devices).
The Bluetooth functionality on S Pen is powered using a supercapacitor. The only other with Bluetooth is BigMe, who use a battery. Neither support third-party devices as their Bluetooth functionality is not part of the Wacom spec.

Hey Brandon, I also have similar requirements, but I went with the reMarkable 2. I had a Boox device before that; I would always end up pressing the eraser button on the Boox pen, and much prefer the reMarkable's eraser at the top of the pen.
Seeing some of the issues you had reminds of that device, though it wasn't as Air. The reMarkable is a much more polished experience. For my Kindle books, I have some software which converts them to epub format and then I just load them up through the reMarkable app. It's not as seamless as having native Kindle support, but it works well enough for me.

Hmm, would this be the perfect eink tablet for handwritten newsletters with sketches that I could save and use on a website, or email... as a jpg or png or??? I'll watch a few more of your videos now. Brandon, nice review thanks. Re todo lists, noted your quick demo of writing a Todoist idea while reading. Is there an app youve seen (Todoist or not) that allows writing a todo with the pen and then, crucially, checking it off and it disappears and others move up? I.e. the simplest possible "digital" to do list but with writing on eink? Better would be a set of tabs across for separate lists. I borrowed my wife's remarkable and was shocked that it is only "paper" and so fiercely proud of that. I already have paper ;-) I havent tried any Android eink tablet but this one seems good for Kindle support also. Cheers!

Hello, thanks for an informative video. I am thinking of buying note air soon. what are your thoughts on buying an android 10 device when android 11 is available in note air 2? Note air is currently offered on discount at good price so seems like a good option. Like if we ignore everything else, does a newer version of android on a device is able to justify a higher price?

Let me start by saying there are much more qualified people to comment on the differences between Android 10 and 11 (I'm an iPhone user), but I would say the bigger difference between the Note Air and the Note Air 2 is going to be the writing feel. The Note Air does not come with screen protector that makes it feel like you are writing on paper. If you are comfortable putting on your own screen protector, and you are getting a nice discount, I would say grab the Note Air. AFAIK they run the same versions of the Boox Apps.

First of all, you mentioned the backlight being very adjustable, but is there an option for the backlight to be completely off?
Secondly, is there a way to search through previously created notes? I'm a little confused on what it is capable of doing. If it can operate most android apps, it should be fine, but I'm unsure.

I'm so glad you found it helpful. Yes, you can turn the backlight off. As far as searching notes goes, I don't think the Boox has this, but the SuperNote definitely does.
The Boox devices have full access to the Google Play Store, so any apps available there should technically work. With that said, not every app feels great with the latency of the eInk screen.

Thanks for this great video! I have been meaning to buy myself a remarkable 2 for quite some time, but recently I came to notice that it's really bad in terms of opening the epub files. More clearly, I heard that it won't open the epubs that are protected. I don't know what that exactly means but so far I have seen and researched, that would be the most of the epubs put there. So it basically doesn't open most of the epubs out there.
This is a very important issue for me, therefore was a dealbreaker. I want to make sure that this device has much more accessiblity on the epubs, from your experience, is this the case? I mean, can I open any epubs that my Kindle opens?

The Boox reading app is good and supports this for PDFs and ePubs, but not Kindle Books as those use the Kindle App and the Kindle app doesn't allow for writing directly on the page (even on the Scribe). @BrandonKBoswell  Před 2 lety +1

Hey there. My guess is this isn’t a perfect fit for that. The Boox has a 2 step render process. In the first step it writes your stroke to a buffer that you see on the device and then after a delay it renders it to whatever app you’re in. From what I understand your strokes only show on the screen share after that delay, so if you’re trying to have people follow along in real-time it can be a challenge. In my research the Remarkable doesn’t have that delay, so if this is your primary use case that might be the better device for you.

Hi. I have a Boox Nova2 which allows me to connect a bluetooth keyboard. Does the Note Air2 Plus allow that? I couldn't find an answer on their site. Thanks!

Hi! Have you tried reading manga and comic books on these devices? The larger screen and light weight looks good but I am still on the fence between an e-reader and an actual tablet. Thanks!

If that were my use-case I would probably spring for a color device. Check out my video on the Boox Note Air 3 C. I did a comparison of comic books on that device vs an iPad

Hi, firstly thankyou for these videos. My use case would be note taking and looking for a digital to-do list or method to organise my life to some degree. I'm drawn to the simplicity of the Remarkable 2 and paper like feel, do you think the remarkable 2 or this device would make for a better to-do list/note taking device that saves me taking lots of paper about with me everywhere I go?

      Yes!

@@BrandonKBoswell Hahaha, I'm more drawn to the remarkable 2. Cause no distraction (adhd and autism) so I think that would be the best route. Do you think a to-do list of sorts is possible with the Remarkable 2? I figure much like paper I could just bullet point some things out and remove, cross out as I go. Is there a calendar template that I could religiously add dates for upcoming essays into and just check to be aware of priority? I've tried using my phone and laptop but I end up getting distracted by other things.

@@GobboIsGood If you've tried paper to do lists with templates, and they work well for you, then this will be like that, but better. I personally use a digital to do list, but I know plenty of people who prefer paper to do lists and are highly productive.

How about software customisation? Is it possible to deGoogle it? Or to configure it to use a third party cloud service?

It’s Android so anything you can do on Android you can do here. The limit is reliability and your ability to program ;)

Can you save your hand written notes as pdf in google drive and have access to them from another device e.g a computer or tablet?
