    Here are some of Arte's greatest hits:
    - Let a drug ring happen under his nose, causing the death of Tyler Skaggs and several others getting addicted.
    - Forced the front office to sign some of the worst contracts of the past decade (Pujols, Hamilton, Rendon).
    - Changed the team name from Anaheim to LA despite still being located in Anaheim.
    - Ran Jerry Dipoto out of town and sided with dinosaur Mike Scioscia only to see him build a playoff caliber team in Seattle (A division rival).
    - Treats the minor leaguers worse than pretty much any other owner (which is saying a ton).
    Dude is a Jerry Jones wannabe without the championships.

    This list should begin and end with James Dolan. Imagine being given one of the most lucrative and beloved franchises in sports, located in one of the biggest media markets in the world and not even sniffing a conference finals appearance in over 2 decades. The Knicks have devolved from a once respected and formidable franchises to a laughingstock. From the front office to player development, the Knicks are an organization with no direction apart from making money. Couple that with an owner who bears no responsibility for the messes he’s made and you now have a team that can only succeed in spite of its owner, not because of them.

Even so,with the rebuild,he made NYR look absolutely foolish with his response to the Tom Wilson incident last year. It's well-documented that he doesn't have the best interests of any of his teams at heart. It's all about the dollars with him,and since 1) New York fans will always go to games, and 2) visiting fans will always happily fill any voids left by NY fans when they don't show up,he makes money,hand over fist,either way. You forgot one. Stuart Sternberg, Tampa Bay Rays. If I had to vote out 2 major league sports owners right now, it would be him and of course Snyder.
    He's a wealthy New York businessman, still lives there and rumor has it he has Mets season tickets. He only seems to come to the games when we play in New York. He treats the team like a toy and is also a HUGE cheapskate, paying almost nothing for players and being too cheap to pay anything for a new stadium. Now he has gotten better about the money issues, but it sounds more like because the other owners and the MLBPA were giving him grief for it. There has been some very fishy stuff money wise but I can't remember specifics.
    Part of the Rays attendance issues are his fault. He treats Floridians as second-class citizens and thought we'd actually be ok sharing the team with Montreal. I'll tell you what that was. He was too cheap to pay for a stadium with a roof. You must have a roof in both markets. So either he wanted to have open air in both markets and not pay for a roof when it was needed most OR he was trying to start a bidding war between Tampa and Montreal, with the winner getting the team full-time. People hate him just on that, but also he charges way too much for tickets and parking, and he recently banned cash purchases and physical tickets, which ailenates the older folks who live in the area (and a good chunk of the fan base).
    Also to note, a few years ago, he randomly bought the Tampa Bay Rowdies, a minor league soccer team that plays down the street from the Trop. Still haven't figured out why. I know they were trying to drum up support to join the MLS. That movement sort of vanished when he bought the team so I wonder if he did not want the competition. My other thought is if he plans to move the Rowdies with the Rays once the stadium is built. Personally, I think the Rowdies should stay in St. Pete, and the Rays should move to Tampa.

    • @nathaniellevesque2782
      @nathaniellevesque2782 Před rokem

      While the player development is excellent, I feel they are suffering from the same problem the A's had in the moneyball era, where they won't spend the money to get the final pieces to get them over the top. If they can accomplish what they did on a shoestring budget, imagine what they could do even if they were just middle of the pack in payroll. Just look at the Dodgers and Astros, teams that have excellent player development and are willing to go out and get the extra pieces to get over the top.
      Also the half and half plan would have royally pissed of Montreal fans as well. They aren't going to embrace something that isn't truly theirs and they aren't going to build a stadium for a team that isn't permanent. Sternberg was trying to milk two markets while dipping in revenue sharing. This will just leave both cities angry.

Therefore although they put money into buying players, it has been old superstars designed to rack up shirt sales, profits and media coverage rather than youth and footballing sense, the foundation of the great united teams like the busby babes and the class of '92. Add to that that they're the only premier league owners to siphon money out through dividends (this on top of the debt) and you can see why they're hated. I do like that, in English football, if fans are pissed at their favorite team, they can start a phoenix or protest club to take back their fandom and pride. When teams relocate in U.S. sports, fans are screwed, but when Wimbledon F.C. moved to Milton Keynes, fans were able to start a new Wimbledon team, and even got promoted up to MK Dons level in the EFL. However if you lived outside of Denver, you're fucked unless you have DirecTV or the local bar has it.
