  • La Cambe is a Second World War German military war grave cemetery, located close to the American landing beach of Omaha, and 25.5 km (15.8 mi) north west of Bayeux in Normandy, France. It is the largest German war cemetery in Normandy and contains the remains of over 21,200 German military personnel. Initially, American and German dead were buried in adjacent fields but American dead were later disinterred and either returned to the US or re-interred at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, 15 km (9.3 mi) away. After the war over 12,000 German dead were moved from approximately 1,400 field burials across Normandy to La Cambe. The cemetery is maintained and managed by the voluntary German War Graves Commission (Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge).

Thank you and much respect to you and your mate for visiting and showing respect to the German soldiers. Even though you're from Britain, which I admire, you deemed the German soldiers worthy of remembrance. You have grace and compassion, Thanks from a lover of Western Europe from South Korea.

My assistance dog and I visited this cemetery some years ago. We visited British, American and German cemeteries. I always found German ones the most depressing. Multiple men buried under one stone and all the crosses black.

The black cross comes from ww1. If I am correct, Germany was forbidden to do white crosses for their fallen ones in ww1. They had to do black. Seems the Germans continue with that after ww2

We visited la cambe on 5th June 22, a mass of flowers and candles around MW and his crew's grave. I noted that MWs headstone is now in line with his crew , on the left of them. To those who visit Michael Wittmann's grave I would ask you to place something with the unknown soldiers

the people that honor Wittmann are NAZI fanboys and as such are moral midgets. The fact that him and his crew were buried in their mess tins gives me a great deal of satisfaction.

Many were conscripts and many were either very young, very old or had been badly wounded in Russia and were not considered front line troops anymore.

As the son of a soldier who fought in the North African Campaign, the Sicily landings before finally the Italy landings. I have taken a keen in interest in the Second World War since the age of 12 (now 65)
I have visited Normandy several times and visited allied war cemeteries. The American War cemetery shook me very much seeing the names and in particular the young ages of the young men buried there. A few days later I visited this German War cemetery and was shook every bit as much. Young lads cut down in the prime of there lives through politics 😢

I was there 1 week and 1 day ago, it's impressive to see how he is the only one who have a permanently decorated grave, not by only one flower. As a French i really wanted to go to this cemetery, to see the graves of those who sacrified to protect europe from communism's slavery, from usa domination but mostly, surely, for their land. when i leard of things school doesn't told me when i was young, i was horrified of how my dear country was diriged by people who wanted to commit a kind of genocide of german people (privation of technology, making the country pay an impossible ammount of money in time of crisis where bred could cost 20 Billion marks...), commit humiliation (occupying a part of land, with colonial troops with the will to let them rape german women, i'm not joking and there is even medals for survivors...a reason of why german soldiers in 40 hated so much black troops and killed them mostly and violently, "the black shame"), and i'm to affected to say much.
the treaty of versailles is a shame for france, i swear that one day, the socialists will pay for their crimes, even if today's socialists are no more ones from the past, they are still socialists...

We are all human beings after all. It's a pity it has to come to this, we should not kill our brothers. I have visited all the Allied cemetery's but not La Cambe. Thank you for this video. I always regret not coming here but it was a busy week in Normandy when I came, Love you all. Jon
