Thanks for the inspiration, Tom! This past weekend I added a temp gauge to my small weber smokey joe so I could take my first leap into cold smoking foodstuffs. In the long run I could see investing in a bigger model such as yours. Loved the hinge, felt and dual temp gauges. I did see something similar on the temp gauges at Home Depot for those not wanting to order online.

Tom, Great mods that you made. I live in the Australia so miss seeing friends adding things to their Weber. I also added an temp gage to the out side, other than that I am pretty much stock. I really like the hinge and the other improvements. I'll keep an eye out for them. I also just finished watching your video on cooking the Costco ribs on your modified kettle. they did look good.

Cool modifications. I have two 22.5 Webers. The only modification I've done so far is to insert a couple self tapping metal screws into the top of the legs to keep them from popping out when moving the grill. I would love to see an improvement on the casters, which are fine for moving the grill very short distances on flat surfaces. Also, the grill will flip if you lift the handle to high. I just carry it now (not lit, of course)when I want to move it more than a couple feet.

you are most welcome. Those hinges are not cheap...especially when you are paying in Canadian dollars. Basically, 10 US dollars is approximately 15 Canadian and a first round draft pick. That being said, they do look really well made and the pin is smart. May I ask, where did you get the tiered rack? You probably said but I don't remember. That would be a great add for direct heat, burgers, dogs and having some guests over..kinda thing....ohhh (thinking out loud) nice also for potatoes and steaks.

Excellent video. I like your future idea of longer legs on the Weber. You identified the problem correctly for guys who are taller like my self at 6'3" also with lower back injury. The shorter legs of the Weber cause me to bend over thus causing some really bad lower back pain that does not go away sometimes for several days. Longer legs would make using the Weber much more enjoyable.

Hey Tom, I’ve been watching your channel for years now. I have about 10 Weber kettles and the 1st one I ever bought and my favorite is this same green premium you have. I do the vent handle mod on all of them like you (thanks for the idea). I have a question, how do you like having the 2nd thermometer on this green kettle for indirect? I have a spare Weber thermometer I’ve been wanting to add to my green kettle. Any input would help, I’m assuming having one on each side gives you different readings for different cooks? Hi Tom, I searched all over Amazon and did not find this specific top shelf. I found the Hovergrill which looks pretty sweet but not this specific one. What is the name of the shelf?
      Thanks
      Bart

It’s a great idea in principle... but it’s not a very good idea to drill through the porcelain enamel..

The beauty of the Weber was its simplicity. If you want all the bells and whistles, get a grill already well equipped. Of course some people like putting a hemi in a VW.
