You have to understand that Valentino isn’t just some guy Angel can get away from. It’s more complicated than that. Valentino is one of the Vees, one of many overlords in hell. Overlords are evil human souls who gain power by getting other human souls in contracts the more solar they collect the more power they get. And Valentino has tons of people who work for him in the porn industry. And sadly angel dust is one of the few under his abusive thumb.
**Literally. He owns his soul.**
Valentino is a moth Demon, who uses his pheromones made from his saliva glands and wings, to keep his “ stars” drugged and submissive all fawning him. And worst of all not only is he a rapist, but he is infamous for using those big revolvers of his to kill anyone who stands away. With holy bullets. Bullets that can actually not only kill human souls permanently, but demon royalty as well. That’s He’s a huge threat, Angel begging to spare Charlie’s life. Because he’s one of the few demons who has in his possession bullets, they can actually hurt someone as powerful as Charlie. Knowing Angel, he’s probably watched former friends and colleagues that he used to be close to get killed by Valentino before his very eyes. As a punishment for rebelling.

I gotta say Valentino's VA has INSANE range
Dude can go from Whiny Jealous Ex, to Flamboyant Smooth-Talker, to Intimidating Abuser at the DROP of a hat
He also has a vague latino accent that seems to fade in and out depending on his stress level, which makes it seem like that's just part of his persona and not a natural accent.
Loser Baby is forever the best motivating song I've ever listened to.

The worst part is, that this is a reality for a lot of people especially women. However I’m glad that Angel is a guy because guys get assaulted too but are less likely to speak about it, so it’s important to show that.

Like I said Valentino is a pimp and so he treats Angel like his property and that is a fate to anyone who were forced into that type of work and there is metric tons of sexual assaults and worse being done to pornstars as well as prostitutes.
Angel is a character that showcases the mindset of an abused victim of their profession and how much control their owner(Valentino) has over them and it leads to self destruction(like when you see Angel storing coke and almost getting roofied) even down to the scene were Angel breaks down while getting into a screaming match with Husk is also a reminder of those who are so deep into the lifestyle that they push people that they care about away.
Plus Husk is a real one for actually giving a damn even to the point of calling Angel out for the facade he puts up. Plus having an OG like Keith David voicing the winged bartender adds an air of a wiseman who is looking after the annoying little brats(the Hasbin Hotal residence) around him and Angel is the one Husk cares about the most.
Plus something tells me that Angel is going to get only better from here on out.
yeah, this episode is really heavy but needed because there are people in similar situation and they can feel seen at least. Loser, baby is a banger for any bad day, if you ask me.
Also next episode... girl..ep 5 is something I'm really looking forward for you to see, haha

Loser Baby is an incredible song, and Husker with Angel is such an incredible duo. just as the song says, they both have horrible situations but finding each other and helping each other deal with it in...... "healthier" ways is just an amazing writing decision

A lot of people hate on the fact that Hazbin portrays the abusive relationship between Val and Angel, but it's real. Like, of all the things in this show, that abusive relationship is the most real thing portrayed. And it's uncomfortable and brings visceral reactions to watch, AND IT'S SUPPOSED TO. I dunno. A lot of people say it's glorifying abuse, but I can't see that. Because the reactions my own body has to the whole song "Poison" with the animation is so raw and unpleasant, and that's how it should be for something like that. It's beautiful in the fact that it's not sugar coating it.

There has not been a character I've HATED as much as Valentino in any medium, since Joffrey from Game of Thrones! And that's saying something! Serious subject matter that shouldn't be made light of, but Valentino is peak character writing for a hateable villain and darkest depths of hell's human garbage. Props for the VA to make a character that intensely detestable, that takes SKILL. Even when written well a bad performance can undercut it but things just came together to create a perfectly hateable character

I think the relationship between Angel and Val is too controlling. Val treats him as a possession, but at the same time Val and Vox are lovers (at the end of the song, Vox and Val should have just kissed). Although vox does not prevent val from having a strange relationship with angel, it can be seen that vox particularly hates angels. The desire for control between val and angel may also come from being controlled by vox when they were together, which made val want to escape and find someone he can also control. . Because looking at the picture with Val, there is usually a surveillance camera in the background, which is a very interesting little detail.
