    If I recall, there was a similar issue at a previous Olympics where there was a female track runner who didn't even have a genetic condition of any kind, she was just plain XX chromosome female, but they had just implemented rules regarding Trans athletes, and at the time they determined who was and wasn't eligible by testing their testosterone levels, and if they were over a certain threshold, they weren't allowed to compete in the women's division. Well, it turned out that this female track runner had a naturally crazy high level of testosterone for a female, and so they didn't let her compete. So yeah, trying to figure out how to enforce the right amount of fairness with this issue is definitely not easy

    • @ShikiByakko
      @ShikiByakko Před měsícem +75

      Also it is kind of shit. I mean, it almost seems to me that the woman division has then nothing to do with been a woman, but with been an "average" woman. You are not allowed to be the best, because you are disqualified.
      In the case of this woman, been from Algeria it means there is NO WAY in hell she is going to be allowed to compete with men, so basically, is complete discrimination against people who do not fit in a box in the name of "fairness".
      If that is the case, we should also test testosterone levels in men, and if someone is outside of the norm, even if that is just because of how they are, they are no allowed to compete.
      Then, top athletes in both, women and men divisions will drop like flies, and we will end up with average boring, but "fair" competitions, and the best of the best in shame.

      1- Ure saying >against women< as if it means something , if she was born as a woman with the female genitalia and lived her whole life as a woman ,What makes u think that she should compete in a men's competetion rather than women's one? Just because she has a higher level of test? Are u going to check the test level of all the women competing and flitering the ones that have an advantage compared to others? , Even Males are different , some ppl have low level of test whilst others have high levels of test , are u going to do that in male competetions too?, By that standard arent u just making it unfair to people?, The whole idea of sports is being gifted physically , Thors the world strongest man was gifted with an incredible height and strength , should he get eliminated because he was born that way? cmn now ///// 2 - I agree that if someone is trans should compete with females but she isnt , if she was a born as an intersex ( not a transition ) , there are alot of intersex people that get to choose which genitilia to keep at a young age and they live their life as that gender for the rest of their life , They'll function exactly like the people from that gender ( if their situation was alright and their reproductive systems worked fine after the surgery ) , However if someone transitioned from man to female , i do agree that they shouldnt compete with females , because by the time they transitioned their body wouldve been built way differently than a woman's. //// Intersex people are not really trans people because they arent transitioning from one gender to another so unless you wanna create a whole seperate category for them then the situation will stay as it is , They prob didnt do it and kept it this way because its hard to make it fair between intersex people as the advantages and disadvantages would be worse than the ones we have now imo

Even the UFC which at one point didn't have weight classes had to add them because the lighter weight fighters don't stand a chance against bigger boxers. Size matters. Women are just not the same size as Men.

      And from now on every sport should test the competitors dna to put them in genetics based groups right?🤦‍♂️
      Every other sport men or women body building or swimming or even Rubik's cube solving the genetically superior person would easily win against the others, and she's genetically superior to the other boxer that is why she won, she didn't cheat she didn't purposely injected her body with testosterone like some freaks, she has a natural higher testosterone level in her body, and shaming her for winning is like shaming an autistic person for solving a Rubik's cube faster than the others, what is happening is not trans phobia it's discrimination from the west against the middle east if an actual trans beates a middle eastern woman then it would be a different story.

      @@kotybakm2334 genetic advantages in stuff like body building already self exclude. What kind of nonsense is that statement? Body building is a competition about having the most muscles defined on the human frame. You can either do it and compete or not. I am no body builder as I lack the genetics for it. I could try but would lose every time and instantly.
      Some sports are also more niche in their calling. Body building does not garner a lot of people to the sport. Boxing and other competitions do. As such, to offer more fair competitions we have divisions. That is the point of divisions. Here's the deal, most sports are not men's and women's divisions. They are ANYONE divisions (aka open divisions) and then there are lower competitive divisions like women's divisions or lower weight brackets. Women can certainly join the "male" aka open division and fight against men if they think they got the chops. Nothing stops that. The open division is about the best man or woman winning. The issue is that if there only one open division that would prevent people who are not quite as good from ever competing at all. So we have lower divisions like Women's divisions for that reason. It is a lower competitive value and meant specifically for that reason. When you allow a top competitor into a lower level division, it destroys the point of the lower division.

And the only high profile loss he had is considered a robbery by most modern analysts.

    Later on, the IBA's Olympic status was revoked because the judges and referees were corrupt.
    The International Olympic Committee also tested the athletes, and guess what - she qualified.
    There is no actual evidence that she has any mutation/syndrome, nor is there evidence she has elevated testosterone levels.
    The fact that you jump to such conclusions based of her not so feminine appearance is baffling.
    I think you are also forgetting the fact she is from a muslim country - she would be killed if she were trans.
    Also, this is a sport - there isn't supposed to be equality between athletes, it's whoever is stronger wins - would you say that the Judo gold medalist shouldn't compete because she is stronger than her opponents? Would you say that about the weightlifting gold medalist?
    (before any of you jump the horse to curse me out in the replies - if there is actually evidence she is a man, Imane should be stripped of her medal and never to compete again, it's not like I'm defending men-in-women's-sports, simply stating the facts)

    This clip doesn’t fully explain the situation. And since I believe it’s never okay to be wilfully ignorant I’ll give some more information.
    Like he said. It’s illegal to be trans in Algeria. She was never a man. She was born female with female parts. But she has a condition called hyperandrogenism. Where her body has far higher levels of androgens (male hormones) than a normal female. Usually this leads to an XXY chromosome but her case is so severe she has an XY chromosome. Which led to people believing she was trans. Which again, she’s not.
    Again, just so I can stress this as clearly as possible. She was born female. Or more specifically intersex. Externally her body is female but internally and genetically it’s male
    Obviously this has a massive advantage. And whether someone like that should be allowed to compete in woman’s sports is what the argument should be about. But please realize this is a condition she was born with and has no control over, and making fun of her for it isn’t okay.

    • @Frostshaitan
      @Frostshaitan Před měsícem

      Thats not even true, there is no evidence or proof that she has that condition or that she has elevated hormones. The only tests she failed were unspecified tests performed by a russian led testing company known for corruption after she beat an undefeated russian boxer last year, causing her to be disqualified and the russian boxer retained her undeafeated status. Before that there were no issues with her competing in anything, including the 2020 tokyo olympics.

    I did some googling after seeing this video and wanted to throw this bit of information out there for context. Apparently Khelif was previously disqualified during the 2023 boxing world championships after failing an unspecified gender eligibility and testosterone tests. Which is already a bad sign. However, I noticed that Khelif has been competing at top level as a boxer since 2018. She also competed 4 years ago in the Tokyo Olympics. However, she lost in the quarter finals to then winner Kellie Harrington. Some more info for context; in Algeria, changing gender as homosexuality are prohibited by law. As I do have my doubts myself about all this, I highly doubt the Algerian boxing federation would allow Khelif to box and represent their country here in the Olympics if she was actually trans. I think it goes without saying that Algerians don't want a trans to represent their country as the majority is Muslim and don't support the LGBTQ community.
    One last piece of info. A while back there was a similar and complicated issue with South-African Olympic and World champion athlete Caster Semenya. She was born as a female, but with a "genetic disfunction" (XY chromosomes) similar to what Zack explains in the video. Her testosterone levels were (way) higher than average. So Khelif could be a similar case to Semenya previously. It honestly would not surprise me at all.

    As stated by the IBA, Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif were disqualified from the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships New Delhi 2023 for not meeting eligibility criteria based on a confidential test.
    However, the lack of transparency and official statements raises concerns about potential discrimination. It is particularly troubling that these athletes were disqualified after winning their medals. If there were eligibility concerns, they should have been addressed before their participation, not after their success.
    In defense of the athletes, who are born biological females, if the tests were valid and they were born with the characteristics in question, in my opinion their participation should be considered valid. Athletic success comes from a combination of hard work and natural talent. Penalizing athletes for traits they were born with seems unfair,
    just as it would be to disqualify a basketball player for exceptional height.
    My perspective does not apply to those who undergo gender reassignment surgery, which is a separate issue.

    • @lavos333
      @lavos333 Před měsícem +1

      The thing is, this particular case is trickier than a basketball player having exceptional height.
      The sport is divided in categories in order to give every participant as much of a fair chance as any other equal participant. To use a very clear, easily understandable case, we have boxing body weights. A heavyweight could probably kill a flyweight in a single punch, due to the massive difference in body weight, mass, and power.
      Women and men categories work the same way. Due to the physical differences caused by testosterone and undergoing female/male puberty, there is an undeniable advantage in a competition to the males. The female category is created in the same way a lighter division is created: in order to give the subgroup a fairer chance.
      This would directly disqualify any males that undergo reassignment surgery in order to compete in women sports. Your perspective does not apply to them, so I'll skip them and go straight to the point.
      In the case of genetic anomalies, it gets dicey. A person is usually assigned their sex at birth after a general visual exam. The issue is there are anomalies that would make a born male present female genitalia (not an expert in the particularities, so I won't try to explain in detail topics that I don't know in depth). In this situation, the person would be "born" female, grow up as one, and presumably participate in sports in female categories.
      Here is where puberty comes by. By this point, the hidden testes will activate in truth, producing high amounts of testosterone that jumpstart the development of muscle mass and the increase in bone density, among many, many other things. At this point, the person in question will start to overcome their female peers. It will be gradual, usually won't be completely one-sided, and will seem to be talent starting to flourish, but the reality is different. They have an unfair advantage over the rest.
      Of course, a bodily advantage is not enough to bar someone from competing, far from it. Michael Phelps has an unfair advantage, which lets him excel in his sport. Many of the greatest athletes in history are similar, where their extreme efforts combined with their natural bodies let them overcome their peers without any chance of competition. But this particular case is different due to it being related to the categorization in the sport.
      Michael Phelps competes with other men because there is no man-dolphin category. Being intersex makes you cross over the line from male sports to female. As an example, let's imagine a genetic condition that lets your bones and muscle fibers weight half as much, while retaining exactly the same properties they would if they were normal. Now a person with this condition enter the boxing scene and completly dominates the flyweight category (50.8kg max) while having the muscle fibers of a heavyweight (100kg). This is unfair in all senses AND it makes the person cross over from one category to the other. This should not be allowed to happen.
      (More in the next comment, about the controversy around the tests and disqualification of the actual case)

    • @lavos333
      @lavos333 Před měsícem +1

      (continued from last post)
      The specifics of this particular case are spotty and full of unreliable testimony. The only proven facts thus far are:
      The athlete was disqualified due to a test revealing XY chromosomes.
      The athlete filled an appeal, but retracted soon after.
      The decision was not appealed, so it's now legally binding.
      So here's the thing. If the tests were faked, it would be very easy to prove so, with the result of another test proving her as XX. It would clear her name, and open the way for a very tasty lawsuit. Why did she retract the appeal?
      Remember that she's from a country where gender reassigment is illegal. Say that she underwent another private test, and the results showed XX. There would be no reason to retract the appeal. But what if they showed XY? Genetic anomalies are not (from what I know) illegal there, but she might not have known that. She realized she had lived a lie since she was a kid, and has now a plausible target painted on her back, with her own country holding the gun. So she retracted the appeal, and the original test results are kept confidential in order to protect her.
      Is it far-fetched, and smells of a bad movie plot? Indeed so. But I can't come up with another explanation that hits all the nails on the head, other than this. You know how the Sherlock Holmes saying goes about eliminating the impossible.

    Comparing Imane Khelif to Michael Phelps is completely ignorant. Imane competes in the 66 kilogram division in the women's division of the olympics. In her famous photograph of her patting her opponent on the back (Angela Carini), she is only 3 inches taller than her opponent (although framing in the fight clearly makes her seem larger, which is common in boxing such as the famous pictures of Mohammed Ali standing over his opponents), and they are both in the same weight class, and if you look at pictures of them side by side (such as when the decision for the match was made) you can clearly see they have similar builds. Even if she has some rare genetic condition, she is still clearly properly matched against her opponent, and clears societal designations around calling someone a "woman" (referring mostly to her sex organs, I guess, since infertile women exist and pregnancy is generally not mandatory for being called a woman). Although she can also get pregnant.
    Not only this but Imane is not new to boxing, and has had a boxing career in her home country of Algeria, which is Anti-trans and would have stringent regulations around an athlete like her.

      LOL. You clearly don't know biology do you? (and you don't do sports)
      Even if a man and a woman are similar size, (and have the same training) the man will have a huge advantage regardless. Generally female upper body strength is 50 to 60 per cent that of men and female lower body strength about 60 to 70 per cent of male lower body strength. Female core/trunk strength is about 60 per cent that of males.
      You cannot change the fact that males have a huge phisical advantage (esp in combat sports or in sports where they has to use a lots of upper body strenght), women will never be able to match. This is why women's sport divisions were created. For women to finally be ale to get a chance.

    Asmond is kinda just wrong here for even bringing up "longer arms" and "andre the giant". Those aren't comparable to having a naturally high steroid level in your blood (testosterone is a steroid). Having longer arms is in the realm of maybe a 5-10% advantage, but having 100ng/dl higher test result consistently for a decade is probably gonna be in the realm of a 15-20% advantage in almost every physical activity.
    Lastly, andre the giant didn't have an advantage. His skeleton started giving up on him, and he was in chronic pain the entire time. He also didn't compete, he was in "real" wrestling. All of his matches were staged and the winner was never actually in question. Bad example.

      Imane Khelif is clearly a world class boxer for being in the Olympics, but compared to other Olympic medalist she is nothing special statistically speaking.
      A lot of female boxers with Olympic medals have way better win to loss ratio in official matches compared to Imane Khelif. Is anyone looking into their unfair advantages?

  • @MiaKitten98
    @MiaKitten98 Před měsícem +8

    She was born female. Genetic variances are not uncommon in athletics, and the IBA never releasded proof of the test.
    Imane Khelif is a biological female. Even if she had XY chromosomes, biology is not so simple as XX = Female and XY = Male
    XX Male syndrome exists
    XXY for Kleinfelters and Turner Syndrome exists
    XY Female exists
    XXXY, XXXXY, XXXXXY exists
    XYY exists
    X exists
    Her DNA is simply instructions
    If I tell you to build a boat and you build a car instead, it doesn't matter if the blueprint was for a boat. You wouldn't call that car a boat.
    Likewise, Imane is a biological female, born with a vagina, uterus, fallopian tubes, etc, and she simply has higher than average testosterone.
    She has a moderately successful record as a boxer and has been beaten 9 times by other biological women. She is not at all wrong for competing.
    If it was a trans woman issue, then they should absolutely be barred from competition, but people have a gradeschool level of understanding of biology, and that is what leads to this insanity.

    L take. So should she just not compete ever in sports? In woman sports (where she is a really good athlete, but not undefeated) they say she has an unfair advantage, but in the men sports she would get demolished.
    She just has very good genes (like most athletes)... Its very unfair to throw her out for that. If she doped herself that would be something else, but its just her biology.
    They also didnt release any numbers. We dont know how high her T levels are except that its very high, but just like men women can have high and low T-levels

      The IBA has being criticised and suspended by the IOC for anything olympia related since 2019 for financial clearness and missing integrity for decision processes in the fight.
      Thats the only source from what I found and taking the history and background in consideration it doesnt sound to me like thats even true that she has XY chromosomes
      Also having XY while being a women isnt a micheal phillips advantage as many like to make it out afai.
