- AHOY! In this episode, we leave Fernandina Florida and cruise a mere 7 nautical miles to Cumberland Island. It was our 5th leg of our Great American Loop Adventure. We swatted enormous horse flies and dropped anchor for the first time. We had planned to put the tender in and cruise on over to the island to explore but we chickened out. We did not have enough confidence in our anchor to leave SeaSHINE. And putting the tender down in the wind made us nervous. Oh well. Baby steps.

I really like how you guys are keeping it real. Showing the doubt and the achievements.
Thank you! We hope to give everyone a very realistic view of life on the loop - the highs and the lows. Thanks for joining us on this crazy adventure.
Another excellent episode! Wishing you fair winds and following seas, as you all continue on your journey!
Thanks so much! We really appreciate your kind words :)
I love the whiteboard for route planning. That’s a great idea. Keep the videos coming….
We found the whiteboard to be super helpful since plans change so much. It also let the whole crew see what the plan was. Thanks for the encouragement :) and for watching!
Horseflies 😱🤬Grrrrr! Disappointment and frustrations But you all seem to make the best of it! And, I applaud your cautious and safety first attitude!
LOL. One of my mottos is "Safety First." The kids would probably I rather not have that motto but they are stuck with it. They are too precious :). Thanks for the sweet comment!
The only defense against horseflies is full body armor. Those things are worse than Canadian mosquitos.
🤣🤣🤣 we agree! Those suckers are mean!
The first time we anchored was in the Bahamas. Did not get a wink of sleep. By the time we started back 4 weeks later from the Exumas we got the hang of it and for the most part rested well. You guys/crew are doing great. Really enjoy your videos.
Thank you!!! It takes time to build confidence in your anchor. And it took the admiral more time than most LOL. Thanks for the kind comment!!!
Another banger of a Great Loop video. After viewing a few videos now since joining in on your big adventure I have quickly determined that..... The Admiral is halarious!!! 😂 Safe travels and many blessings to you all. 🙏❤️😎
The Admiral here -- I am so glad you get my sense of humor and enthusiasm for life. We really appreciate all your kind comments and support. You are AWESOME!!! We'd love to send you a SeaSHINE sticker if you want one. DM us your address over on Instagram :)
@@TheBoomershines that is super sweet of ya'll. I'm not on IG but I appreciate the king gesture. If I ever decide to join one day I will hit you guys up. 😊
@@Captain_Clark_CDoryAdventures We have a SeaSHINE sticker with your name on it when you want it :)
Awesome video to date, thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for another great episode. I am learning so much! I hope the home sickness was short lived, but I can imagine that is totally normal. Would love to eventually see a breakdown of fuel consumption, how many times you booked a marina etc during your year, Unless I missed that from a video a few months ago. Keep them coming!!!
Great suggestions! We will work on that :)
He is right! The horse flys can be terrible through the Georgia flats.
There were BAD! But easy targets LOL
How much chain do you have on your anchor?
75 feet of BBB chain and three feet of three ply rope.
It's so weird with the horse flies. St Andrews Inlet and St Simon Inlet. Don't know what makes them so bad there. Next up, No See 'Ums!
The horseflies are no joke!!!
A friend of my wife was severely hurt when one of the wild horses trampled her on a path. Be careful!
Oh no!!! I hope she is OK.
I bet you wish you had enclosed the fly bridge now, eh? Horse flies are brutal.
Nah! For the short time of horseflies the rest of the trip of open flybridge was incredible!!! Thanks for following along. ⚓️Mark
@@TheBoomershines Horse flies aren't the only pests you'll encounter. I'm betting you both end up with a change of heart.
