  • Auditioning for Drama School? Practised all your lines, feeling confident about the physical audition? But are you ready for the interview?!
    Generally I've found that the interview is the part of the audition that everyone is least prepared for. No one seems to know what to expect or how to answer the questions. Well I'm here to help!
    I've done several auditions, many mock interviews and also courses and classes on auditioning, so hopefully I'm in a really good place to be giving advice. In the video I'll go through questions that you can expect to get asked (I guarantee you they will ask AT LEAST one of these questions!) and how to think about answering them, as well as some general tips.
    If you want to know more about physical auditions I have a video here: • Drama School Audition ...
    As mentioned in the video, if you'd be interested in tips and tricks on how to tackle Sight Reading in an audition let me know and I'll try get it done sooner rather than later!
    I hope this is useful for you and if you have any further questions or more knowledge to share, please do comment below!

    That "never end an answer with a no" is golden advice for more than just theatre!

    Don't apologies for not acting like a normal person at a drama school. Have you ever seen an actual normal person say "I want a career in the creative arts?" they don't.

    Thank your for this video. Very helpful. At my past drama school auditions they asked me if I could name the three actors who dominated the British stage during the 20th century. And if I could elaborate on one of them. And they always ask if I had applied at other schools (which I don’t really get because I’m like “I’m applying for your school right now so the others don’t matter”).

      Ooh that's tough, it took me a good few minutes to think and realise I could actually answer that! Great questions to prepare for though!
      I have heard about them asking about other auditions you're doing, and I can't remember exactly but I think some of the reasoning was to do with gauging how invested/realistic you're being about this career path (it generally takes a lot of tries/auditions to get in, so are you trying everything you possibly can to get in by auditioning for as many schools as possible), and also how invested you are in their school in particular.
      Also apparently they like to know if you have offers from other places, and I think that was a mixture of if you have other offers you may come across as more desirable, and also to give them some indication of how much competition they have for you if they are really interested in offering you a place!

      I’m so glad to hear that! 😊 I got into MXMasterclass last year and I’m now mid applying for drama schools, but I’m also auditioning for and getting acting work and starting to build up my CV with that, so just seeing which option is more successful for me at the minute!

    How do you answer the question: "are you applying to other schools"? And why do they ask this?

    • @GabriellaFitzGerald
      @GabriellaFitzGerald  Před rokem

      There's many reasons they could be asking - to know how likely it is you would accept a place if offered, how badly you want to go to their school specifically, how realistic you are about your chances of being accepted to drama school generally, if other schools are interested in you if you already have offers (knowing other people are interested could potentially make you seem more desirable).
      It isn't always obvious why they are asking, so it can be difficult to tailor your answer specifically.
      I would definitely say though to try not be too dishonest (lying about having offers if you don't can be risky!), except when it comes to how much you want to go to their school - don't tell your last choice that they're your last choice! Depending how they ask the question, take the opportunity to turn your answer into a talking point - don't shut down a possible conversation with a short 'yes' or 'no'.

      I think they might ask some different questions haha, but I think the principles are the same! You're still trying to show your passion for the subject and why they should give you a place!
