Wire Extensions (IMPORTANT)
Call and speak with your local Harley-Davidson dealership parts department. They will know what extensions you need for whatever bike you have. This is the easiest route if you want Plug-And-Play extensions, and to not having to de-pin every single wire.
FYI: This is not an easy modification, it requires a lot of time and patience. There is a reason that dealerships charge what they do to swap bars, especially if they're internally wired.

Please do more of these types of videos! I find it so interesting to see the innards of the bike! This is all stuff I gotta learn in my motorcycle mechanic class, so anything that'll give me a little clearer understanding is SUPER appreciated. 🖤 thanks Block!
Man the quality of video vs the early days. Good stuff BLOCKHEAD
Alan Lopez Thank ya!
Im really diggin the gold accents 👍
Lucian Moon 👊🏼
My new t bars are coming in for my Sporty today and now I’m contemplating running my wires internally, it seems like a ton of work but it looks so clean!
Zac Cordova More work for sure but much cleaner!
Look sick man. I just put Biltwell Tyson XL TBW 10inch Tbars on my 19 lowrider and I agree the biggest headache is de-pinning and feeding wires threw the bars.
A year ago today(happy 1yr anniversary) when you installed those bars!!! Great vid and even better friends that you can count on to always help with teardowns and build-ups. Awesome bro!
Lol so far none of the mods ive seen you guys do seem that difficult but this looks lime such a pain in the ass
Chance Seliskar - It’s a big job for sure!
Hey blockhead, my 2019 Softail threw the same codes when I did my bars. It has to do with disconnecting the console wires without disconnecting the battery first. Easy to reset, go into diagnostic mode and hold down the trip button to reset sensors. Bike looks great! - Stevo
Won't you have to have the bike remapped if you have a se pro tuner by removing the main fuse I hope not
Those bars are killer with the hardcase risers.
To get each wire out of the clips I found a thumbtack works the best, you have a handle on it and it's super strong so it won't bend.
If you used the FP3 tuner you can clear the codes on the app. Great video as usual.
Omar Munoz No FP3 fo’ meeee
Best riser install video in all of CZcams! Thank you
Love the vids, but from my understanding it’s always best to start at the furthest caliper from the brake reservoir so you bleed out the most air possible. Also glad it doesn’t have to be done by Harley since i know the abs pump sometimes needs to be running in order to bleed the system.
Here I am, coming back to this video 4 years later.....
Those risers are sick!
Sounds like theres alot of people on here that dont enjoy working on thier own bikes. What they are doing, hanging with friends working on bikes, are some of the best experiences about owning a bike.
Keigan FXLR - +1 love garage sessions w friends!
Nice video. It was really helpful. For my install, I got polyurethane grommets, took a pair and slid the metal sleeves in then put them in the freezer over night. They slipped right in from the bottom side of the triple. The top grommets went in with little effort, using some suspension lube I had laying around for mt bike forks.
Looking awesome and comfortable for ya now
jason white Oh yes!
I might be wrong but I don't remember you removing the tank the last time you lifted the handle bars.
PS when I get my Motorcycle, I hope I find an Eric. He is like the Yoda of motorcycle modifications.
Nora Mero Tank was removed last time as well. Pretty much have to, to have enough room to work w the harness in the frame 👍🏼
Bell yeah squad UP!
Great video! I'm not planning on doing this myself but want to have some idea of the process.
Another good how to video from Blockhead n his friends top 1 😀🏍️ from north of England Uk
Got a set of of 11 inch hardcase risers for 300 shipped (2day) off Instagram from a Dyna trade group. Brand new. Couldn’t pass it up. Got some gold fm Mx bars coming too. I’m stoked.
New camera Block? This viddy looking great!!!
Dave Howard Had the cam for awhile, don’t usually use it for How To videos though
Man thats alot of work. Yall are ausome!
Got the same risers for my road glide. 👍🏻
the gold accents are beautiful
nice work, namz makes full replacement wires instead of using the extensions if ya ever do another one
Which ones do I need?
Always a good day when you work on your bike and things go well.
DelVzns for sure!
I noticed my front brake hose from the triple tree was pointing down too much it was almost pinching the hose ,I lined it up parallel to tree so hose now has nice progressive angle and feels tighter ,,,Also thanks for that Clutch advice and don't forget to leave some slack for when on full lock.. I think to clear Code - hold toggle while turn ignition on which takes you to codes then I think just cycle to the code and hold down toggle switch.
Damn....you are having a very good time brother
Anurag Bhardwaj - Always a good time wrenching on bikes w friends! 🤘🏼
Man I remember when harley gave you extra stock so you can add bars without having to extend too much stuff. I feel like they are bean counting with the new models. No extended lines or cables and no cruise control stock!
A team of Block Surgeons can rebuild her, they have the technology. They made the Harley better, stronger, faster, and ergonomically correct!
Cyber Punk 👨🏻⚕️ doctor!
Does the tank have to be empty or, because of the fuel injection, will it be safe to leave gas in the tank? I’m used to having a carbureted engine, so I had to empty out the tank before any removal of it.
Any recommendations for part numbers besides the dealership? My local Harley dealer was useless, for this. Their answer to the length-of-lines-and-cables question was, “So, yeah, here’s a cable kit from Burley that costs $450 and you may need to splice and reconnect some wires.” 😑
Hell of a job guys!
Block have you considered the black fork lowers that Harley has for this bike? Imo it should've came that way.
Mike Essary - Haven’t seen em, I’ll have to check that out
Exhaust is sounding louder all of a sudden. Maybe its the new GoPro? Can you do a drive by with the camera stationary on the side of the road @Blockhead?
Matt List - Same GoPro, not sure why. I’ll try and get some ride by footage 👍🏼
That clutch cable sticking up is making my eye twitch. Lol
V-Twin Motorworks It gets better w the fairing, haha
Can we get a side view so we can see what angle your arms are at? I'm keeping my bars stock but fitting Blitwell 8" sweep back risers as I'm a short ass (30" inseam).
Nice job boys! Bars look awesome!
Questions????? Two to be precise buuuut if I disconnect the wires first to keep from false starting the bike then I won't have to worry about pulling the main fuse????? Also if I pull the main fuse will that wipe the tune I have on my fxlrs being the fact that I have a screaming eagle tuner won't that mean I have to get it remapped
So did you take it to Harley after to get the ABS brakes bleeded? I was told that was a MUST if you get any air in the system whatsoever
The most important comment to come from this tutorial was Bagger Bro's ….. "I'm NEVER doing this again" !! Hahahaha. This is why dealerships can charge so much to do a bar swap. They can charge double if you bring them a DIY project abandoned half way thru :)
Oregon Outback It’s quite the job! haha
That little fairing don't cut it now aesthetically; I think you mentioned Memphis Shades or something, so looking forward to that and how it looks.
Have you commuted on it yet?
Mark Smith Yup, Memphis shades install vid coming. I’ve commuted a few hundred miles already w the bars, liking em a lot!
Great steering handle, good video
Part number for the clutch cable and brake line??
Do you have the HD part# for the brake fitting you used? Did you get a new brake fitting since you were installing a new brake line, or were you not able to reuse the brake fitting on the OEM brake line?
Did you ever figure this out? I’m curious myself.
Damn Block ... we / I need a hair and makeup lady 😄😄😄😄 #badhairday
BaggerBro Yeah we do 😂
BaggerBro or a hair and make up dude.. cmon guys 😂
I have an 09 Sportster. I’m 6’ tall. I’m struggling on bars. I love the Z- bars you do. And I love the bars with the risers. Help!!!
Blockhead, now that you have narrower bars on the bike, which do you prefer? (Factory vs. Aftermarket). Any issues with wrist comfort?
Video quality is A1
Ted Locklear 👊🏼
I want those brake and clutch levers!
There is a lot that goes into it ...
If you're running an FP3 tuner you can clear the codes, just go into systens switches & you'll see it
Geoff Oz Evans - No FP3 for me
My only question is where was Bagger Bro, Reese and Wes when I did my vars?
Having an extra set or two or three of hands would have really helped!
(Good work fellas).
Hey Blockhead love your videos, so I also have a 2020 Lowrider S and it’s currently at Harley getting risers installed they said they are having a hard time finding the clutch extension🤦🏻♂️ Do you by chance have the part number?
Thanks Man love the videos
Joe
what did they charge you in labor?
Any tips on stuffing the cables, connectors and that rubber grommet back into the frame? I got my new risers and bar installed yesterday, but after at least half an hour of fighting with that small opening in the frame I gave up
Looks good...
How do I mount my Rockform on the risers like that? I have the same risers
would you of minded two inches higher i went with the same set up in all black but 11s wwith 2.5 inch moto bars
What brake cable part number # what clutch cable part number. That one is a bit to long I think is there a shorter option? Thanks for the info good video
How did y'all NOT record the brake bleeding video?!
Thanks for the video dude! Next project on the low rider. Not looking forward to it but these stocks gotta GO.
What are those bolts called and can you them hollowed out to run cables internally when your handlebars don't have cut outs?
Im looking for bars for my 2019 softail slim. I like the look of drag bars but with my wide tank I don't think it will work without asking risers so I'm trying to decide what to do. Go to a different style bar with similar height of the stock Hollywood bars.
Thanks for the video, learned a lot! I have a question about adjusting the clutch, is it something you do by feel or is there a perfect way to adjust it?? Thanks again!
Lets say I have an 02 sportster has the tach and speedo combo. Im wanting to go t bar style. My bike has a massive riser and the speedo and tach is attached to the top clamp. If I go t bar I am not able to attach my speedo and tach. Is there a clamp I can purchase? Everyone has videos of handlebar replacements for bikes with just a speedo. Just looking for ideas and opinions. This is my first harley and I am going for a specific look. Thanks for the help✔✔
Awesome video! I just picked up a ‘20 low rider s and definitely need bars. Didn’t know that about the clutch cable, I’m definitely going to do my own install. The ABS wasn’t effected by the brake bleeding?
Is there a slight gap between your top clamp and risers after you torqued the top clamp bolts?
No ABS?
Did you drill the bars/ were they drilled to run the wiring through the risers? Looking at Lucky Dave’s but it looks like they only have 1 hole in the middle to run wiring. Thanks man
What clutch lever is that? I need one
How did you bleed abs?
Do you have to bleed the breaks if you’re not changing out the breaklines?
Hey! What clutch cable is that?
Did you need to get cable extensions for the twist grip sensor or was it a new one with longer cables?
I got the same question! Any advice on this one Blockhead??
Guys I got a nightster but I'm starting to think the previous owner put a bigger tank on the handel bars are touching the tank. How do I solve this ?
Not really my style, but they look good. A pretty big job. I keep thinking Bagger Bro reminds me of someone and it keeps bugging me because I can't figure out who. Then it hits me that he is Chumlee from Pawn Stars.
I installed 12" bars on my 2018 harley breakout, after few days riding at night I hit a pothole and now my bars moves loose forward and backwards. I tighten the bar clamps to the fullest and I still have slipping. Any ideas on how to fix ?
Part # on the clutch cable would be nice?
Great video! A couple of others have asked, so I'll ask, too. How did y'all determine the length of the clutch cable and the brake line you needed. How did you find the part numbers? I've looked at the Handlebar Installation Requirements (2019-12-03) book, but if you're not using H-D bars/risers, it's difficult to determine exactly what clutch cable and brake line to use for aftermarket bars/risers. Thanks.
Stephen M - Talk to your local H-D dealer parts counter, tell them how tall you’re going and they’ll be able to recommend the correct parts specifically for your bike 👍🏼
@@BlockheadMoto Thanks, man. FYI, I want to go with the same bars Maxwell installed on his '18 Heritage Classic on my '20 Heritage Classic, but I don't want all that extra clutch cable sticking up like his clutch cable. It would aggravate my OCD! 😎
how do i figure out what length cable kit i need? if i have a standard low rider im guessing its a 4" rise, so do i need a +8 kit?
good video blockhead 😎👍
posse dude thanks!
Is it necessary to change the triple tree bushing or can I leave the stock bushings. A friend says that it sends a lot of vibration to the bars but are more solid. factory bushings aren't necessary to swap out. Is this true?
Did you disconnect the battery or just remove the main fuse while installing?
Does your 2020 have ABS?
I've worked on a few cars with ABS. It was always a no-no to drain the brake fluid below the reservoir, otherwise it would require a trip to someone (usually the dealership) to use a scan tool to cycle the ABS controllers to get all the air out of the lines. Is this, somehow, not an issue on ABS-equipped Harley's or ABS-equippped motorcycles in general?
After installing the risers My break line is leaking from the break line adapter. Any thoughts?
Does the new twist grip sensors come with longer wiring? If so, do you just repin them in or do they need DuPont clips?
Are that he Arlen Ness Knurled Fusion Grips gold or brass?? looks like brass to me
I thought I could do every mod that you have done in previous videos whenever I got a Harley until I saw @baggerbro depin the first cable xdd is it as hard as it looks? Cause I wouldn't have any idea of where to plug everything back 😅
Rakharo Tg Gotta take pics to remember where to plug it all back in! 😁
@@BlockheadMoto haha thanks!! The bike looking better and better! 😏
Just ordered 12 inch risers and bar with 3 inch rise from bung king. Any ideas for cable extensions or wiring extensions?? Cant find any for my LRS specifically. Thanks y'all!
Wow quite the ordeal!!! Looks great. Have Baggerbro come depin my mess!!!
How do you repin the connectors? Just put in back in?
I am installing the same size risers and handle bars. Do you know the length of your new brake cable? Thanks.
If you sign thos 24k gold levers I'll take them lol
How many extensions did you have? Part numbers please?
Did you have to get ABS "calibrated" at the dealer after this install?
Is the brake line adapter necessary?
Blockhead, how did you get the check engine light to turn off?
Bruh I’m having trouble finding the second wire for the twist grip the long one any tips?
