great video. I have a 5.9 12V cummins... and my oil pressure guage is suddenly always pegged to max, even after removing it from the dash. Am I correct to think it is the gauge?... I cleaned the sending unit wires and they are tight. They tell me I cannot buy a new gauge, only option to send it in to get repaired.. which costs anywhere from 500 to 700!.. any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Ok I have Columbia 2005 mbe4000 my oil gauge last year started to act crazy up and down. So I took to freigtliner and basically they did nothing but charged me 1200$. So I got mad and after that I did nothing about it. So a week later gauge went to max. and it stays there since. So when truck is off gauge is on zero but since I give contact it goes right to max. And stays there until truck shuts off. Also water gauge doesn’t work properly only when outside is cold weather but once truck warms up and you shut off it and turn on again it fixes. And I have code SID 53 fail 3. Do you have any idea how can I fix it? Thanks 🙏. Also I should mention that oil pressure sensor is not the problem

I don’t work on those types of trucks so I can’t give you a definitive answer. That being said, if it’s mechanical and the sensor doesn’t go through the computer it’s probably the wires. They are rubbing on something and grounding out. If the signal is digital and goes through the computer then I have no idea. My recommendation would be to take it to an auto electric specialist.

How to check oil pressure sensor

What about pipe dope for the threads in the oil pressure sensor thread? Would that work or screw back in with nothing?

smcool100 I’ve never put anything on the threads. And I’ve never had a leak. There should be an Oring or crush washer on the new pressure sender.

Master TnineK oh ok. I have a boat I bought a few weeks ago. The pressure gauge always reads max at 80 psi... I was told to replace the oil pressure sending unit and I did. I used pipe dope on the threads. But I’m still reading 80 psi max... Maybe the pipe dope is shorting the signal? Thoughts? I guess I could remove, clean off threads, reinstall and see if that fixes it.

Ok so I'm looking at buying a stepvan. I'm seeing freightliner , workhouse. for the chassis. Im thinking freightliner better choise. And for engine I'm seeing 5.9 cummins , 6.5 gm or a mercedes 4.3 L4. Can't find any information on the mercedes. So I'm thinking go with cummins . What do you think ?

Tony T Cummins all day buddy. Cheaper to work on by far and they are million mile engines if you take care of them. Run far far away from anything workhorse or GM. Nothing but electrical issues. I’ve personally never seen a Stepvan with a 4.3 4 cylinder so I can’t give you any info on it. But I will say this, a single injector for anything Mercedes on the commercial side is upwards of $1000. A turbo is around $2000, and it just gets more expensive from there. Not to mention, you usually have to get the stuff directly from Mercedes. You could expect 2 week shipping from somewhere in Europe often times.
