After 30 years this song still stands the test of time as the finest example of the merging of Indian and Western pop music. People forget just what Monsoon achieved with this song, the like had not been heard or tried since the Beatles. It was massive hit in Britain.

Such a hauntingly beautiful tune with the Indian influence. I'm so sad to learn that Sheila Chandra is now practically unable to speak, let alone sing, because she now has burning mouth syndrome (BMS). So sad we'll never hear her wonderful voice again. I hope she finds peace wherever she is. I hope this song reminds people of how wonderful her voice was.

After such a long period of time I'm playing the exotic melodies on my Strat of this Indian major pentatonic along with Sheila and her band, and I'm crying tears like an ocean. This song is timeless. I know this beautiful woman and great singer is retired and very ill and wish her much strength!

This song and the lovely Sheila blew away barriers in the BEST possible way. It was like loctite between cultures, someone here mentioned that it was years ahead of its time, and I agree. But look now at how many people watch Bollywood and enjoy the music and the sheer Colour and artistry of it all. I LOVED this song from the minute I heard it. I collected 12 inch singles at the time, and when I bought this, I was blown away again, it gripped me to my core. It was my most played record of all time. I think she may have been in Grange Hill (a school drama) at the time, but my memory is dusty.

I first heard Sheila back in the 80's and she BLEW ME AWAY. This is the first time that I have seen a video of her. The OTHER version, the more traditional one, sounds like a timeless song. Such Spiritual and physical longing. She can't sing anymore, "burning mouth syndrome". If you like her maybe you know about the middle eastern singer from Yemen, Ofra Haza. Very similar, almost complementary. Ofra, a Yemenese Jew, sadly died when she was still in her prime. Check her out. God bless them both, and us all.
