    One of the world's leading shearers will show you the easiest, safest way to shear your own sheep. Grab your Course here theshearerspos...
    Justin Shears a mob of approximately 200 merino wethers at Millthorpe NSW. The wool is Superfine and will go to make some of the most expensive and elite garments in the world.
    These wethers are in extremely good condition. Wethers were hard to bend and strong. Good combing sheep. Using a 5.5mm bevel Ace comb. A 5mm bevel Heiniger Pro comb was riding out of the wool on the back of the neck.
    I love the light coming from the count out pen. This must be what it's like to shear in heaven. Shear radiance.

    Everyone whining clearly has never had any interaction with sheep. The sheep is not hurt. They are heavy and can't be handled like a kitten. Shearing is necessary and it's part of being a responsible owner.

      The sheep only sits still because of the incredible skill of the shearer holding it with his legs in the different positions, the sheep's head is never allowed to get too low to the floor, if the sheep's head isn't kept up the sheep will kick and kick and exhaust the shearer. No way is it the sheep going limp and cooperating, it’s all about the shearer's skill.

    Excellent job! I think most of your viewers have never been around sheep, and especially shearing, and don’t understand that these are not animals that can be shorn while standing up. I caretake a small flock of Shetland and Shetland crosses and it is not an easy task to shear them! For those who don’t know, Shetlands are small sheep, less than 40kg. For a sheep as big as this wether, shifting that weight around can be difficult for the shearer to accomplish without being hurt and without hurting the sheep. This man did a brilliant job!

      Hi Samantha. Thankyou for your lovely feedback. I did shear sheep in Scotland and shore many shetland sheep. They were great shearing and I loved shearing them. They are such a hardy animal as well. The merino wethers are heavy and these ones were particularly heavy as it has been a tremendous season and the sheep are so fat and healthy

    Out of curiosity how much does a fleece from a single sheep fetch on average?

    • @TheShearersPost
      @TheShearersPost  Před 10 měsíci +2

      It varies mate. Some of the best merino fleeces can fetch $120+. The average would be about $50 at the moment on the wool auction floor. Merino crosses would get about $10 to $15 per fleece and meat breeds would be less then $5 per fleece.

      Hi Jerry. Yes it does big Time. This merino wether is in good condition. The wool off this mob of sheep is fantastic. Very little vegetable matter and dust in the wool and the wool strength measured in newtons is very strong because of consistent good nutrition all the time.Thanks for commenting
