- With English idioms you can precisely express your feelings, even adding creativity and nuance when you’re feeling joyful, tranquil, or frustrated.
Of course, you can use the words joy, calm, and frustration however today I’m sharing with you 21 idioms in English to express feelings with sharp accuracy bringing a new level of sophistication to how you express your feelings in English.
For example, if I say I’m feeling frustrated, that simple word doesn’t fully express whether something is simply under my skin or whether I’m nearly ready to flip my lid (two English idioms you’ll learn more about in a moment).
Understanding and knowing how to accurately use idioms in English allow you to describe an exact situation or a precise feeling in a more efficient and creative way.
Not only that, but you can also be more concise in English communication. Idioms help you describe complicated emotions in just a few words. They perfectly describe something complex in a simple way.
Recently members of my Confident Women Community explored more than 30 idioms to express feelings in English - feelings of frustration, anger, joy, and calm and their subtleties.
Today I’ve refined that list for you and I’ll share 21 English idioms to express feelings, specifically feelings of joy, calm, frustration, and anger.

Thank you Annemarie for your advice. I'll do it and repeat 2 or 3 of the expressions. Maybe I'll record myself and make a story and try to perform with a voice that is suitable or appropriate to express real anger with all the negative idioms.

Thanks for the great lesson! 1. My supervisor has an even-keeled manner/characteristic: he is always as cool as a cucumber no matter how tight the deadline might be.
2. We couldn't help but jumped for joy when we were awarded the grant.
3. Our director found her name spelt wrong on the letter and that got under her skin.
Hi Annemarie, back again after going through a hectic patch. Anyway, I´ve chosen three idioms that have drawn my attention and suited me to the ground.
first, to be even keeled. sometimes I wish I were even keeled when i have to work with a person who really gets under my skin. he annoys me in a way that I´d be pleased to see the back of him for a long time. we don´t see eye to eye over numerous things.
the second idiom is to flip a lid. i´ve chosen it because it rings a bell but I wouldn´t use it that sure.
i´ve been racking my brain and there it goes...my head of department flipped her lid when she checked out that the book sales had gone down due to" negligence". she mouthed the word.
the third is to weep for joy. ...last year I wept for joy at the wedding of a niece in the UK, it was a family get-together and I hadn´t seen some of them for years.
Thank you 😊💓
You're welcome 😊
Ya, it really gets under my skin but I always try to pull my self together.
If I qualify for the recent job I applied at the British Embassy and receive the job offer, I will definitely be on cloud nine.
Fantastic example!
Thanks soooooooo much Annemarie ❤️ 😘 😊
My pleasure!
Excellent video.
Annemarie, it was really cool, learning to express refined and situational feeling was fundamental.

Gams from Srilanka.. 👍😘
Thank you. Flip my lid is one of my favorites too.
The best
You are great❤
I leaped for joy when my husband gave me my birthday present.
My colleague's nagging gets under my skin.
I lost my temper last night when my daughter refused to put on her jacket. (It was quite cold - the temperature was around 4-5 degrees C, and she was wearing a T-shirt)
Thanks again, Annemarie
Your welcome and thank you for sharing your examples. 😀
hello, teacher, I like your voice
Thanks for this lesson, Annemarie. My manager is a even keeled person.
THanks
You know now my mind is alert.I chose to be happy.
I jumped unto the air when I went to visit my best friend in Australia.
Excellent example of "jump into the air."
We have to learn the reins of our emotions as cool as cucumber.
1. It’s challenging to remain in good spirits during the lockdown due to the pandemic.
2. My supervisor is usually as cool as a cucumber, but the rude customer really pushed her buttons.
Great examples!
1st view! Yay!!
