  • Yo guys! In this tutorial, I show you how to build an extremely compact, resource light, completely silent, and 100% infinitely expandable (both horizontally and vertically) Dropper (item) elevator!
    Enjoy :)

    So I was having the same problem as a lot of ppl that have commented on here. If more than one item entered my hopper at the same time, the elevator would lock up on the first two droppers. I did find a solution to the problem. Not sure it will work for everyone, but I figure it's worth a shot. All I did was run redstone from the torch under the bottom dropper to the side input of the comparator, and viola....problem solved. I'm guessing it has something to do with the difference in the signal strength from the torch and the signal strength coming directly off the dropper, but I'm just beginning to wrap my head around the more advanced mechanics. All I know is, once I hooked up the side input the comparator now updates for every item in the dropper until it has pushed everything along. I am using the single elevator and playing on PS4 if that makes a difference.

    Everyone seems to build these Dropper Item Elevators solely around using the Comparators as the sole input choice for the clock, which pulses the torch tower and turns on and off the Droppers. This is great, however it doesn't address the very real situation in-which; if there is more than a single item inside the "ignition" Dropper, which is the first Dropper, then the whole "clock" which is designed to get it's "ticks' through that first Comparator, will stay in the ON state. This stops the clock because the clock is no longer receiving its "pulse' inputs from the Comparator and in turn, breaks the system.
    I have seen quite a few reputable Redstoners on youtube fall into making this simple mistake..
    Quickfix: Create a clock system which isn't dependant on the Comparator's "pulsing" output and instead, dependant on its "ON" state. Since it's irrelevant whether the Comparator pulses or stays on, in regards to the clock, since the clock will only require an "ON" state, whether thats a quick pulse or not is irrelevant.

      You're absolutely welcome! And yes that's all I found when double-checking this online (too make sure no one else built one similar) was single-dropper elevators that transport one-at-a-time; and of course you could use multiple of them but it would be so bulky so I developed this lil' guy :)

    Really helpful. It works perfectly with the item storage silo I use that requires the items to be dropped in from the top and I didn't want to have to go up an entire level just to put items in. Without it I would have to walk up a staircase or climb a ladder every time I wanted to put an item into storage.

  • @QwixLF
    @QwixLF Před 8 lety

    Worth mentioning that normal large chests cannot be placed side by side like that, *however* trapped large chests and normal large chests can. The only downside is that the trapped half of a three or more tower tends to interfere with transmission if you're too trigger happy with opening and closing the input chest.
    Specifically, I noticed that trapped models will not feed the input as well as not accept feed on the output if it's open on either of their respective ends. Undoubtedly the constant signal given off by an open trapped chest is to blame. And material seems to build up in the center of the tower if either ends are interrupted.
    After working some more numbers, it's a poor storage solution considering blocks stored per cubic meter. In a double tower model, it's only holds about 40-45% of the material compared to stacking regular chests on top of each other. But it was meant as a transport instead of a storage solution, and even still a double tower about 15 blocks high still stores 300+ stacks in it's system. A double going from diamond level to sea level would be able to store over 1k+ stacks in it's system easily.
    I was curious and tried using Ender chests, but they don't take in or output material from droppers and hoppers. If they did, it could potentially infinitely loop material in a system, providing a constant stream of material to any further placed Ender chests. That would eradicate the need to bring along building material to any new locations; take a single Ender Chest with you and have access to dozens of stacks of material whilst taking up only one inventory slot. Sadly, it doesn't work.
    Lastly, a modification to the design can be made to clear out debris in a double without inputting more material. A clock can be attached to two repeaters leading into the side of the bottommost redstone torches of the tower, then the clock can be toggled by a signal controlled by a lever.
    Aside from that, this is a great multipurpose design. I recommend a double tower installation for moderate mining operations/strip mining alongside a service chute for maintenance in survival. The 3+ models seem a little excessive for most mining operations.

  • @KollinsPlays
    @KollinsPlays Před 8 lety +1

    Amazing, thanks Draykke! Since each block up in the torch tower adds 1 tick delay, this can go from bedrock to build height! Oh and because it's SILENT, I used one in my hidden, silent cooked chicken farm! (I credit you in my tutorial)
    FYI if yours stops and fills the bottom dropper, you MUST have only 1 hopper pointed sideways into the dropper and that hopper cant have another hopper above it pointing down. This causes items to go in too fast and the comparator jams the timer. If you change the timer from Draykke's design, it gets bigger and may stop being silent.
    If you're having problems at the top, try making sure your tower uses an odd number of droppers (the top of the torch tower will have a torch facing the top dropper) If you have to, you can point the last dropper sideways, or feed a double chest and hopper off it.

    Hi, the problem on those designs are, that if the upper chest is full the elevator could be stuck. I've found a design which is still compact (5x2) but nearly always reliable:
    for 2 layers you need:
    - 2 dropper
    - 2 hopper
    - 2 comparator
    - 3 redstone torch
    - 6 blocks
    odd/bottom layer (seen from "above")
    dropper->comparator->block->redstone-torch->hopper(facing other hopper)
    airslab(to avoid somethings falling into the hopper clock)

    Wonderful design! It's much better than Mumbo's dropper design. It's working for me on an SMP server in 1.8.1. I love how simple it is and the fact that it's silent. I will say for those having problems that I'm using it to transport and deliver lava buckets for smelting, and it's possible I'm avoiding problems because they're non-stackable items. not sure if anyone is checking this video or not, but when the dropper gets more then 2 items the whole thing stops. As someone else pointed out it could be lag or dropper/hopper timing.
    Either way if you add a pulse to the comparator on the bottom dropper it will turn off which will cause the items to flow resetting it. I am still trying to figure out something better or more to the point better looking.

  • @sumwunudontknow
    @sumwunudontknow Před 9 lety

  • @KurNorock
    @KurNorock Před 8 lety

    It's not working for me. I built the dual elevator for my item sorter. It works for a couple minutes and then suddenly breaks. The lowest droppers start collecting more than one stack at a time and then it all just stops working.
    Do I need it to be a chest at the top? I'm currently feeding the dropper tower into hoppers because I didn't have to build it as tall that way.

  • @SirSmurfalot
    @SirSmurfalot Před 9 lety +1

    I kind of like the older 3x3 design better, especially for even numbered droppers.
    Once you get the wiring at the bottom out of the way the rest of the tower is pretty compact. I also like that it sits flush with the surface at the top and bottom so you can cover everything up with a floor and does not require going deeper than the hopper for when you cannot dig down.

    In the double design, the second tower gets stuck if you insert a non-stackable item. e.g., put a pickaxe in the first hopper, and it will get to the top without problems. Put it into the second hopper (of the second tower), and the system gets stuck, at least the second tower.

    Verifying that the single dropper version works in 1.10.2 PC, is dead silent, and handles stackable and non-stackable items. Combined with a no-step-down water transport, this will get your stuff anywhere you want to move it. Not quick, but low resource. Very nice.

    Hey Draykke, I have a question. How can I get the bottom dropper to send an item up if it gets trapped? This happens if I /home, /shop, /return, /back, /tpa, or just happen to walk too far away from my base at the wrong millisecond/second. Is there a way I can get a constant pulse on the bottom dropper that doesn't cause any issues? I suppose I can play around with it and try to find a solution. If you know of a way to fix this though, I would very much appreciate your advice. ;)
    It's very much needed because, if an item gets trapped on the bottom dropper, the hoppers leading into it will get backed up with items. I don't want to have to go and manually take the stuck item out of the dropper every time this happens. It makes leaving my base a real pain in that arse if you know what I mean. I would rather have an automatic fix that clocks to this, so I never have to worry about it again. Not to mention, I have a lot of farms that I set this up to, so the chances of it happening to one, even multiple dropper towers at once is very high. >.>
    It's not just your design either, this has happened with other dropper towers I have tried before this. This only happens when I leave the area too far. Especially when I do it with commands. If I stay in my base, I can be in there for days (literally days in real life) and an item never gets stuck. Unfortunately, I'm having the same issue with Etho's Hopper Clock. If I leave when a piston happens to be extending or retracting, the items no longer move from hopper to hopper, and stay stuck in position. Then I have to go and take them out, and put them back in to reset it which shows me this same issue applies to a wide variety of builds. >.> I feel like a prisoner to my own base.

      @DraykkeGaming  Před 9 lety +1

      Yes unfortunately you've run into a long-standing bug in Minecraft to where if a player loads out of a chunk (say, travels to the Nether) and then loads back into the chunk, it will cause a slight lag spike/latency issue that can interfere with Redstone projects. Item elevators, as you've experienced first-hand, are one of the main systems impacted by this.
      Unfortunately, there is not a solid fix for the issue. The only way you could fix it would be maybe to hook up a daylight sensor to a redstone clock; so for example, when a certain time of day was reached, the redstone clock would turn out and send a BUNCH of redstone pulses to the item elevator that would move the items through the droppers, thus unclogging them. This would be the only way to fix the issue without having a 24/7 redstone clock running (because that causes excessive lag, especially on servers).
      Hope that helps you bro! :D

    This is a great design, and really compact, and I'm now using it in some of my builds where space is really tight. However... it's not the fastest design. The torch the bottom dropper is indirectly sending a signal into the hopper, which blocks it from feeding items every other "cycle". The fix is to have a slightly larger footprint at the bottom. Remove torch at the very bottom and have a signal feeding back into the comparator (to make it pulse while the bottom dropper contains something) and feed current Indirectly into the bottom dropper (making sure the feeding hopper will not be powered). Also sure there is a one tick delay somewhere in the comparator clock circuit (e.g. with a repeater) or the torches in the tower will burn out. This will make a dropper elevator that is at roughly twice as fast at the cost of a slightly larger footprint at the bottom.

    • @DraykkeGaming
      @DraykkeGaming  Před 9 lety

      While this is true, the signal is fed into the hopper for a reason. Not only does it make the design more compact, but it limits the amount of items being fed at a time. I built it this way as a hopeful fix for the "clogging" of the elevator that is so prominent with every other design (including my old one).
      So it's kind of a sacrifice of speed for reliability in a sense :)

    • @adrianconrad1089
      @adrianconrad1089 Před 9 lety

      Tbh ... if you want speed .. stack it sideways, 8 elevators should be the max you'll ever need and have 8 inputs into a doublechest that you can access from the bottom, should be the fastest way to move items up if you're in a hurry,
      Or if like me have several thousand deoublechests in a storage system, feeding an industrial sized smelter And need to send the fuel back up to the machine from the bottom of the storage.
      Speed isn't the issue since you can have multiple elevators working simultaneously.

  • @dABiGfATLol
    @dABiGfATLol Před 9 lety

    im confused as to why not just have a tower of torches on blocks so (block, torch, block torch) vertically next to droppers and have a redstone pulser (minecraft betapulser so its infinite even when you log out) and that would power the blocks above the torch adn turn on and off normally? this seems really big if u ask me ecause of the tower

    • @DraykkeGaming
      @DraykkeGaming  Před 9 lety

      Multiple reasons:
      1. A continuous redstone clock can cause a lot of lag for people, especially on servers (redstone clocks are No-No's).
      2. A torch tower built that way would be much slower than this one, because it would move the items one-at-a-time up the elevator, rather than a straight shot up like this tower is.
      3. A tower like that has a high potential of overall bugs/glitch-ness; due to the mechanics of it, multiple items could get stuck throughout the tower without moving on; even though a new redstone pulse will move those items upwards, the next item will get stuck. This means the elevator would not be 100%.

    Hey draykke great elevator I'm on Xbox one and have come across an issue, it works well for a bit but for some reason it stops so when I look into it I see 1 item in the 1st dropper and the rest of the items are built up in the first hopper into the dropper any ideas? I clear it out and then try a few items and it carrys on jamming up??

    • @DraykkeGaming
      @DraykkeGaming  Před 9 lety +1

      Yes unfortunately this is a known Minecraft issue - If the player reloads or leaves a chunk, the redstone in the area could suffer a very short delay. In that short amount of time though, systems (such as this one) can jam up. The dropper elevator works by moving EACH item through one-at-a-time as they come in, so when 2 or more get inside the dropper the entire system locks up.
      I actually might try to make a self-correcting dropper elevator if I get the time to do so; one that will unclog itself if this glitch occurs.

    Are there any known glitches to building elevators in the nether? I've tried four separate models, including yours, and the items inexplicably shoot out the sides of the dispensers almost as if they are being squeezed out.

    • @DraykkeGaming
      @DraykkeGaming  Před 10 lety +4

      Are you using dispensors? If so then that is the reason. These are Dropper elevators - if you're using droppers then the "shooting out the sides" should never happen.
      And no, building in the Overworld or the Nether doesn't effect the redstone mechanics.

      +Draykke and anyone else interested. If you're building in Survival mode there's a much simpler (ie less likely to fall off it), less redstone-torch heavy way to build this. Use the droppers as a central tower and build a spiral staircase of blocks up around it...that way you only need one torch, positioned on the side of each block so that it's below the next block up in the spiral. I don't do video but there's a pic here...
      It is not as expandable...but then I don't see why you need several item elevators side by side anyway?
      Stick a clock on the bottom block or use your comparator trick and it works just the same...

    Hey Draykke, I love this design and it works perfectly on single player, but I have a problem: I play on a multiplayer server in which hoppers seem to run at 7x speed. Every tick they load 7 items into the container they're attached to. This unfortunately seems to break this elevator.

    this design WORKS from the bottom to the top of the build limit in multiplayer..,perfect for my tower! but,I tried adding an automatic nether wart farm using water to push items into it, & it stopped elevating items at the 2nd or 3rd dropper upwards. is this a stack amount input issue? and if so is the double dropper design a way to correct this issue for good? thanks, and btw, despite my prob its an elegantly simple build to make! thanks :)

    • @DraykkeGaming
      @DraykkeGaming  Před 10 lety

      You're welcome :) And no, the design is never limited by the amount of items that it has to move. The only thing that will cause this system to fail is multiple items entering the bottom dropper AT THE SAME TIME.
      This can sometimes be caused by server lag, or if not enough RAM is allocated to the Minecraft.exe client. Typically this doesn't happen, but if it does, I would look into those two things. You might also find adding additional hoppers to move the items one-at-a-time into the bottom dropper might help to solve the issue as well.

      I had the same issue with the elevator "breaking" and items accumulating in the droppers. I also had a problem with the item sorters attached to the elevators when they quit and items backed up into the sorters. Both issues were caused by too many items being presented to the elevator as the elevator trigger timing is slower than a hopper. In my case it was the simultaneous harvest of 2400 blocks of various food at once. The solution was to place a chest ahead of the hopper that inputs to the elevator. This acts as a buffer and stores the items that the dropper is not ready to accept. In fact, if you look at the way it is shown in the video it has a chest in that spot. Just build it that way and add your hopper input to that chest. Watch the chest while your system operates and you will see the items build up in there while the elevator keeps chugging along.
      Ain't redstone fun!!!

    I'm having an issue with items becoming stuck in the first dropper. The bottom section gets stuck on and stops pulsing to move items upward. This is on a SMP server. Seems to happen when I am a good distance away and return.
    I've been trying design a way for the system to occasional (perhaps manually or by a sunlight detector) flush itself. any tips on doing this or preventing the bug in the first place? Thanks!

    • @DraykkeGaming
      @DraykkeGaming  Před 10 lety +1

      Sounds to me like the bug is caused when a reloading of chunks occurs; That's why it's working when you're around the elevator, and it breaks when you leave and come back.
      it's actually a common bug I've heard about with ALL dropper elevators. Unfortunately I don't know of any solid fix for this outside of manually fixing the "clog" in the droppers. One thing you could try would be to hook the system up w/ a Daylight Sensor rapid redstone clock, so when a certain time of day is reached, rapid redstone pulses will be released and power the elevator (essentially un-clogging it).
      I have not done any redstone work on a system like this however, but I'm sure you could easily throw a system together, or find a tutorial that could show you how to do so.
