    Games 4-5-6 of this series were absolutely spectacular. Game 4 was a fun back and forth affair, Chicago takes it in OT 7-6 to take a 3-1 stranglehold on the series. Back in Chicago Stadium trying to close things out the Black Hawks jump out to a 4-0 lead midway through the 2nd. North Stars cut it to 4-2, then score 2 in the later stages of the 3rd to knot it at 4-4. Maruk wins it in OT. Game 6 back at the Met Center is another back and forth thriller. Minnesota is clinging to a 5-4 lead with less than 5 minutes to play but Chicago ties it 5-5. After an exciting OT period Darryl Sutter finally wins the series for Chicago

    That was a big rival between those two teams when they went into the Norris Division. Bigger than the rival with St. Louis. Once the team moved to Dallas. That rival fizzled out after one year in Dallas. Many fights. Or bench clearing brawls, Was one of the biggest rivals in the NHL at that time. My memories where when my friends at the tailgate parties outside met center was playing boot hockey with the Chicago fans in the parking lot. And won against them.

    2:29:40- About as big of a "gut check" you will ever see in hockey.... Blackhawks lose Game 5 (blow it really) and have to fly back to Minn for this Game 6. Hawks somehow battle back FIVE times from 1 goal deficits, (all this while their 2nd best player Doug Wilson gets hurt in the second period) and then face this penalty to Troy AND Sutter.... yet still somehow pull this game out. Might be one of the greatest games in Blackhawk history.

      That Hawks team definitely had could pick itself off the mat. The following series vs powerhouse Edm they get absolutely blasted Games 1 and 2 (don't even want to look at the scores feels like if I combined them it would be something like 103-5. However Games 3 and 4 against the defending Champs they battle back and get the series to 2-2. Eventually Edm talent ended up being too much to handle but that team was not going down without a fight

      North Stars fans were notorious for bailing out when it looked like they might not win a series. I was at Game 6 of a quarterfinal series against Montreal in 1980. The North Stars had won the first two at the Forum and then lost three straight. There were easily 2,500 empty seats at Game 6, which the North Stars won. They went on to win Game 7 and end Montreal's run of 4 straight Cups.

    • @danbratten3103
      @danbratten3103 Před 18 dny +1

      Twin Cities fans were fair-weather fans. The original owners almost folded the team in the late 70s due to horrible attendance. After the merger with Cleveland brought some good years and a boost in attendance, attendance started dropping after this season (as another commentor pointed out). By the end of the 89-90 season the North Stars were dead last in attendance and the Gund Bros were ready to move the team to San Jose. After a deal was made to keep the North Stars in Minnesota attendance grew even worse. A brief spike in attendance and the run to the 91 finals got the North Stars off life support, attendance plummeted again. The league was tired of the poor situation and gave Norm Green permission to move the team.
      But people there would rather blame Norm Green than themselves.
      Too bad because the name and logo for the North Stars was way better than the Wild.

    Oh man senior year in HS in Minneapolis memories...! God how we HATED the Hawks, it was more like English Football rivalries than most American sports. And forget the hollow empty soulless fake woke corporate pro sports world of today...yeah, it makes someone sound like an old F'er but the reality is things were better, life was much more fun for those of us who were kids of GenX. No school shootings, no kids on handfuls of psychotropic meds (POSSIBLY a connection there?) no internet (obviously no social media, smart phones etc.) no fake patronizing foisting of victim narratives...all North Stars fans loved Tony Mac, do you think the random immutable accidental arbitrary place on the globe that his ancestors came from ever even crossed anyone's mind, let alone was a problem for anyone? It's unimaginable that he would have even been asked about it, no doubt he would have been (rightfully) stunned and offended if a reporter dared to suggest he was to be singled out as a victim simply for that fact. It never came up because it was, and is, IRRELEVANT. He was a great hockey player for the Stars...what else need be said? So incredibly sad how far backwards we've gone, regressive, destructive people posing as progressive. Amazing what thoughts a hockey game from your senior year in high school can trigger.
