Horizon Forbidden West is next.

Excited for that one, waiting to start the game until your video!
Can't wait!
Horizon Forbidden West is a beautiful game that runs like butter for me in 4k. Too bad it's woke Sony crap tho.
thank you King, thats a good choice to make a benchmark video after tha game "really" finished.
Finally somebody who not get paid by publishers gonna say this.
Another bad PC port. Damn the curse continues....
Though here its not just the PC. Just shite optimization.
Dude it's even worse for console doods
It's especially disappointing, because Capcom is generally great at optimization.
@@Legendary_Honeyexcept when they shove Denuvo/Enigma in there
console players are playing it with random 19fps drop, it worse on everywhere
Ya hate to see it
People need to stop buying on Pre-order.
you know people just wasted $70 when they make lame excuses for poor performance, mtx and drm
Yeah I skipped this one so hard. Has Denuvo too and maybe Enigma as well, who knows.
PEOPLE, just wait a few years until the games are fully updated, dropped massively in price and are for sale in a bundle or some sort of 'complete edition'. This will not only save you problems but a lot of money.
"I reccomend avoiding dragons dogma 2" lol well played
At least he'll say that. The wussies at Digital Foundry won't even make that recommendation despite the obvious developer incompetence
@@matthoward6785 do they normally recommend or not recommend games in their tech reviews?
@@yourlocalhuman3526DF never recommends avoiding games, especially over performance issues. Their reasoning is that some people are fine with sub-30 FPS. Overall DF has become pretty weak. High dislike ratios on some of Rich's gfx card reviews have altered his review perspectives, and the rest of the crew is willing to let developers get away with pretty much anything as they believe developers are never at fault because performance problems (or any other problems) are actually the fault of poor management and management's decisions to ship games with said problems
/rant
@@matthoward6785 I can remember when Alex covered AOE4 in which he mentioned the constant heavy stutters, when you move your view, just as a sidenote instead of a serious problem. Shit like this is absolutely unbelievable
gave devs need to stop making cpu bound games
I really hope that it's even possible for this game's performance to be fixed. Even if the performance was good this game has Denuvo which likely hurts the performance even worse, and somehow the situation got even worse with this game having microtransactions. It really sucks because under all of those problems there probably is a good game, but all of this is unacceptable.
it's always-online as well, isn't it?
woke rubbish too - so many reasons to avoid
It's not always online. You can play the game offline.
@@KoozwadIt's not always-online. You can play the game offline. And I don't know about woke stuff, but 14 hours in, I didn't see any woke stuff, I should know, because I'd hate that too.
@@castlemein5765ah good, I saw it mentioned in a few places that it was
honestly just removing denuvo would probably net another 10fps in towns cause it would free up alot of cpu for the npcs
Games are becoming more and more cpu demanding and the npc quantity and IA is the same or even worse in some cases than previous gen games (10 years easily).
Cáncer optimization on pc is getting out of control...
Not just PC this time. It is worse on consoles.
It's worse, remember Assassins Creed with literal crowds of NPCs? And the AI didn't get any better, the enemy AI in Forbidden West for example, it's virtually the same if compared to the same Assassins Creed, the AI is limited to a certain area (they roam around, never leaving the imaginary circle), they "agro" on you if you get close, they feature patterned routines, etc.. RE4 compared to RE4 Remake, the enemies reacts in the same exact way, flanking you, calling for "help" and so on. This industry only improved the graphical fidelity, the AI is at the same level of the PS3 era (and it's ironic, because Nvidia completely shifted to AI in recent years)
I was literally refreshing my page today waiting for this!
With RT disabled, did you notice if SDFAO looked blurry and pixelated in in-door settings, like on walls and corners and such? SSAO looks a million times cleaner for me for some reason. Anyone else having this issue?
Also remember that denuvo is linked with very poor CPU performance and games really benefit when it is disabled, but Capcom won't do that for a couple of years.
Amongst other benchmark channels you have been the most reliable and descriptive yet. I haven't bought the game yet but will come back once I do
I just wish I had Textures loaded in
2:17, well, that was quick, lol can't really blame you for the honest take. The Re Engine looked too good to be true, here we are
Ya'll need to start wisening up when devs say there is no performance mode on the console version, that means optimization is going to be horrendously bad across the board ESPECIALLY on pc. Starfield was the last example of this but damn how quick people forget.
I think you're probably right about the performance never being fixed. They would likely have to redesign their engine or the techniques they used for core design elements with which the game was built. I feel bad for the devs who worked so hard on other aspects of it and made such a great game that is now bogged down by greedy CEOs and bad design/programming....
Most reasonable recommendation and opinion for the game ^
Thanks, BenchmarKing.
I wish Digital Foundry was as good as you are. You have a deep understanding of how games work and always focus on the details. Keep up the exceptional work!
What annoys me is that you can drop shadow quality but they didnt even took the time to make it look okay.
It looks fking awful on anything lower than max because it jitters around all the time
Probably to make RT shadows look good, if and when they drop(or does the game already have them?).
this game has another year of optimization to go before I touch it, forbidden west sets the benchmark for how optimization should be done. Patiently waiting for your video for that game. By the way, its great that you mentioned nexus mods recommendations into your reviews. I used the nexus mods DLSS 3.6.0 update for forbidden west and it reduced VRAM usage, lowered latency and reduced screen tearing for me.
Going to have to wait for some future unreleased CPU, probably. Just to have more power to brute force a higher framerate.
I am fine outside the big city gonna try that mod but, hopefully, they just add it with the next update.
Just stop buy (pre-order) those games, and in 1 year or even faster we will have clean and refreshed game industry.
yea i have a rx 6800 and from low to max settings and with upscaling turned on or off makes nearly 0 difference in my framerate from low to max i maybe lose 5 fps maximum, even in the wild, but if i open task manager i can see every single thread on my 11700k being bashed into a wall head first
God bless you for your videos ❤
Can't wait for Ghost of Sushi-man.
You are disgracing my honor, Sunrise-dono!
🧐ah its a good day when benchmarking drops a video but im holding back on this game until they optimize it more thats why i voted for hfw so now you going to have to make another video soon when they drop a couple of updates
it's a shame because the game is very fun
luckily it's not THAT bad outside the main city for me
Yes, it's a great game ruined by the performance issues.
same here thank god its not the same outside i get 50-60 fps with some drops to mid 40s with a 3060ti/3600 on high 1440p but jesus christ does it tank when you get into vermond and i assume any large cities, i get like sub 30fps at times in cities which is absolutely mental
@@benchmarking4386 wait till the updates inchaeallah brother
Well, the most important (and amazing) part is outside the city so the solution is dont spend most of your time inside the city,,
Thank You! ❤
Can't say I didn't expect this to happen to the game when even in the trailer they showed fps drops
you should have made a 30 fps guide for this game for the time being
Bro I have dell precision 7720

Is it good?
Please respond man🥲
Lol are u stupid? The game will destroy your laptop so don't even try.
Whats the better DLSS3 mod the one from nexusmods or the enabler for DD2?
A shame Dragon's Dogma was lost in the crossfire, such a shit show on PC. The abusive DLCs got exposed (thanks Steam), the port sucks (the Re Engine finally showing some flaws). And the game itself is "weird" for current players (the technical and microtransaction issues didn't helped with that), but the DD fans seems to be satisfied. In the end, I don't really care because I am not a action fan in general, but it sucks to see Capcom mistreating Itsuno and DD fans who are waiting for 10+ years. I only hope Capcom don't bastardize DMC6 or a possible remake of Okami, I am a fan of these franchises, especially Okami, imagine Capcom having the gall of selling gold and ink bottles as micro-transactions, lol it's so offensive, it can be amusing in a dark way
What about r7 5700x with rtx 3060ti
love your videos man
Its so disappointing specially from Capcom 😢 But I think we kinda saw it coming. So tired of games being CPU bound...whats the point of having a 4090 if no CPU can keep up or engines don't ise threads properly FFS
Big titles are coded for consoles first with PC not even considered or an afterthought. PC hardware can just be very different from consoles. Always beware of crossplatform games.
@@Koozwad But it runs bad on consoles, too.
@@BarneyGooglWell yeah but everything does, relatively. Feels like the devs were targeting 30 FPS, which isn't all that uncommon with console-focused games.
@@Koozwad ...it runs like shite on everything consoles and PC. And on console it goes under 30fps all the time. Yes we all know its a port but look at Horizon Forbidden West and many others being a port is not an excuse to run like a wet dog. And again not the point, the point is it runs badly on every platform.
@@darkauscuswell yeah, games are getting worse and worse optimisation - especially with the emergence of RT
RT is basically a very lazy way to develop games faster while costing consumers a LOT more money to be able to max out the game
I wonder if the RE engine just sucks for open world stuff
Plz make a video for alone in the dark remake
Hey Could you do a video on COD
MW3 2024?
You know it’s bad when even the benchmarkking can’t optimise it
I have a Ryzen 7 7800x3d and a 4070ti super and the game maxxed out without RTX is 120 fps constant 1440p in the open world, but man when I get into cities I've seen dips as low as 50 fps haha it's definitely better than Jedi Survivor though!
Your fps sound a bit weird tho, like in it's a tad to high compared to 99% of other people, you got FG enabled?. Also fps is not the biggest culprit here, but very very bad frametime, as the game feels super sluggish, and the FG mod sadly does not fix that
@@Guldfisken90he’s not capping, I have the same gpu and a 5800x3d and with ray tracing on at 4k quality I’m getting 60-80s and dips into 30s. It’s not that hard to run if you have a mid-high end pc it’s just the stuttering is unbelievably bad in cities
@@Guldfisken90 No frame generation at all because I don't want to mess with mods after people are getting banned for messing with just their save file.
@@CZProductionsIt's also deactivated for a reason. I used puredark's enabler for frame generation and the game freezes/crashes quite a bit seems like capcom has issues to properly integrate it.
It's impressive that they managed to make a game that looks that meh run that poorly.
A change of perspective is always appreciated, the Re Engine looks amazing in closed environments, corridors and so on. But at the moment you expand things, oh boy... the Unreal engine also got exposed in FF7 Rebirth, this game features great character models, but the "world" looks like crap. I kid you not, there's a beach scene in Persona 3 Reload (a double A crossgen game), the water effects on this beach are at the same level of FF7, which is something bizarre lol The models in Dragon's Dogma still looks good, nice animations overall... but everything else don't look that good
I speak for the rest of the viewer-base when I say: thank you for your dedication and for doing all of this suffering on our behalf.
but why does the player hair look so bad?
Damn you know the game's fucked when even you can't fix it. Honestly though, the game runs pretty decently outside of cities and combat is too busy for me to check during those times. Hovering around 40 in the bigger cities feels disgusting, but I've capped at 60 to lower temps
The reputation of this game will forever be tainted, just like shadow of mordor
This game is basically a remake of the original Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen which came out on PC in 2017 and had the same Pawn system and large towns filled with NPCs that popped into view, only they fade in much closer in the new game, often right next to the main character! This is clearly to reduce the CPU load but it begs the question of what is this game doing exactly with those CPU resources? Is it just badly coded?
Obviously, the new game has significantly improved graphics and, especially, lighting when you use the RTGI option but I still think there is something seriously wrong with the CPU utilisation to justify the massive performance variance I am seeing on my PC at 1440p on an i5-13600KF and RTX 4080 with 32 GB RAM running Windows 11 Pro 23H2.
I never see GPU or CPU utilisation get close to 100% and in comparison to this week’s other big open world release, Horizon: Forbidden West, the optimisation is very poor in this game, I would say, to an almost embarrassing degree. It is a great game though which just makes the performance issues all the more disappointing. I expected better from Capcom.
??
People looking for HFW
Just put Shadows and level of details to medium. No need to thank me.
The FPS fix will be offered by Capcom as microtransaction.🤣
"I'll never forgive the Japanese!" -Joseph Joestar
One of the BIGGEST devs and....FAILS!
Another tip for those brave enough to venture into Dragons Dogma 2 world is to use Lossless Scaling Frame Generation if u don't have a RTX40 series. Its a paid software on Steam and works on any GPU. It's shit that I need that to play at 60 fps but at least works and its not that weird.
and i thought 2023 was bad for pc gaming
Man, i love your videos!
As for the topic at hand, great game with exceptionally bad performance issues.
I pre-orderd the $100 edition and won't touch the game due to the atrocious fps.
Yah...I bought Horizon FB instead of this game. I have no regrets.
Hey, could you try Forza Horizon 5, please?
horizon forbidden west please
Working on it.
another unoptimized game... let the people work & lose time for optimizing the game...
Can recommend pure darks mod. Went from 90-100 maxed out 4k to 120-138 and it's soo smooth (rtx 4090, 5800x3d). Haven't reached the big city yet. Also it can crash if you toggle frame gen on and off in game
"So right now, I recommend, DON'T BUY DRAGON"S DOGMA 2!" Haha, that surprised me actually. XD
Poor little Capcom put the game out in "Early Access" with MTX enabled in this single player game but MTX is needed to polish the game!!!! 😀
ps. Sarcasm may have been used in this comment.
The big streamers who play this on twitch have a 4090 and i9 13900k. those are the ones who dont have issues lol
The game runs ok for me, but is basically unplayable since it crashes instantly (or almost instantly if the game is just launched) when opening the Vocations Skills menu. I've seen other commenting on this as well and pointing out a huge spike in cpu usage when in that menu.
I suppose I'm "luckier" than the people who can't play at all. Penguinz0's clip with the constant crashes as soon as the game starts was hard to watch.
The first time ever I preorder a game from Fanatical and it's one that's so broken I just wasted my money and I can't ask for a refund... Oh well.
If you have a AMD 3D cpu then the game is playable & most importantly enjoyable.
Not really enjoyable, i tried it with 5700x3d and refunded. It still has a ton of frame drops and stutters.
@@necrotic256 Im using a 7800x3d with a 4090 at native 4k max settings & its mostly well above 60fps apart from busy town areas, ive even got it running on my laptop using riva tuner to impose a framerate cap of 40fps & even out the frame pacing. 20 hours in & no crashes yet.
7800X3D/6900XT and was getting dips in the 40s OUTSIDE THE CITY. Automatic refund, this half-baked piece of dogsh*t isn't worth $70...let alone $30.
@benchmarking4386 - Love your recommendation to not buy the game
You should redo this when they fix it. Please! 🥲
