Having to wait 2+ years for a new season is rough. TV is an ongoing, serialized medium. Having breaks that long makes it hard to keep hype and my investment in the property up.
In my humble opinion the only time a property has successfully hopped from television to cinema and back to television was in 1998 when 'The X-Files' season 5 led directly into the theatrical release 'The X-Files: Fight the Future.' The movie provided a big budget conclusion for the story that had been brewing in the background and ramped up at the end of season 5, as well as setting the table for the 6th season of the show to pick up where the movie concluded.
