- Indiana Fever and WNBA Women Basketball sensation Caitlin Clark has got support from well known sports and media personalities after being left out of the 2024 Paris Olympics Women Basketball team. They include Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, Colin Cowherd, Justine Termine of Sirius XM and US soccer legend Alexei Lalas among others. They blamed the Olympic Committee, which consists of South Carolina Coach Dawn Staley, LSU assistant Seimone Augustus, Old Dominion coach Delisha Milton-Jones, Connecticut Sun president Jennifer Rizzotti and WNBA head of league operations Bethany Donaphin, for excluding Caitlin Clark yet she is the current face of women basketball.

So don’t include her on this team: but you cannot count on me or my family viewing the Olympics, and me and anyone I can persuade to join me in boycotting the Olympics and its advertisers. One of Kelsey Plum, Sabrina Ionescu or Diana Taurasi would have to be cut and they all deserve to be on the team. Taurasi has played in every Olympics since 2004, so her being on the team would break a record for most games played. The other two are young and have clearly earned their spots.
From a marketing perspective it obv doesn't make sense but CC Will definitely be a fixture on the team going forward.

This was a big mistake.
I was at the game in DC last night along with over 20,000 others and her magnetism is what was advertised. All these little girls there from DC but with her Caitlyn Clark jersey, she had a great game with 30 points and lots of assists and rebounds, but it went beyond the game.
After she signed some autographs, but many people did not even leave until she left, a solo player and then there was applause as she left. People just don't get it esp. women’s basketball Leaving her off that roster just cost the USA million of viewers.
I won't be watching that team this summer. I'm more of a track fan, esp. long-distance running, but I was definitely going to watch BBall. This is opposite the Isiah Thomas debacle when he was left off. No one cared because of his poor sportsmanship in that Bulls defeat, and everyone wanted to see Jordan and the rest of the dream team. Thomas did have the resume to be on that team of course, but no cared at the time.
Is Caitlyn Clark as a rookie one of the best 12 players, maybe, but Caitlyn does have international experience and by the Olympics she will have grown as a player, she is making great strides every game.
She is a competitor and people around the world want to see her. But unlike the Dream Team with Isiah Thomas being left off, this will cost the USA not in victory since they have been dominant, but it will cost in other intangible ways like viewership which turns into dollars and popularity and growth.
But also remember the Dream Team had Christina Laettner, so this team could have had Caitlyn Clark. I don't know how much I was bought into the hype before last night. But OMG, to experience it firsthand, she made me feel like a teenage girl groupie at a rock concert.
It's hard to explain, but she is "That Girl", and I am not a person easily impressed by other humans regardless of their status.
For this game last night, the Washington Mystics usually draw about 5,000 people per game and they usually play at a smaller arena, last night over 20,000 people came and many from the DC area but cheering for the Fever.
You got it right. The Dream Team sold basketball to the whole world. The Dream Team was indeed the NBA saviour. CC could also be the one to save the dying WNBA, but the bleak minded leadership and players are against it.

The attendance at the game you attended was MORE than attendance at Game 1 of the NBA Finals. The Mystics are winless and the Fever had only won two games. We all know why attendance was inflated. Time for everyone to recognize. It is NOT the vets and NOT the other rookies this season.

I guess you don’t know too much about basketball. First, Clark plays a different position. Secondly, BG has been a star since college and is 6-9”. They need her to play against a brand new that is even more physical than the WNBA. DT has a better shooting percentage and lessTo’s than CC +more experience. Finally CC is not even close to DT teammate-Kahleah Cooper who is probably the best Point guard in the WNBA. Maybe you should learn more about basketball and watch tape.

I saw a video yesterday where one commentator pointed out that some WNBA players make tv commercials for a company that sells used cars. He asks, why aren't they making commercials for Lexus and Mercedes? It's because WNBA, since it's inception 30 years ago or whatever has been a sideshow at best, their dedicated players working for peanuts and playing in front of crowds that would embarrass some high school teams. CC is the goose that is already laying golden eggs. I’m not watching woman’s basketball to see fast break layup’s. Caitlin’s court vision, logo 3’s and captivating passion has me tuning in to every game. The hate is unbelievable, she will have multiple 40 point games at which point everyone will call her a selfish ball hog lol
Clark has no braids, no tattoos, no eye lashes, no female partner, no criminal past, earned good grades and is a white Christian. She broke college records, had 30 and 40 point games, triple doubles, shot long threes and was at the top of many stats. She was rewarded with sponsorships, jersey sales, autograph hounds, and a number one draft pick. Most black players, former and current, and many black fans (certainly not all) don't like all of that. Clark's starters don't like her because people say "get rid of X,Y, Z player on the Fever". Clark's coach doesn't like her because people say "fire coach Sides." Her team doesn't like her playing so many minutes reducing their minutes. The WNBA organization, referees to the management, don't like Clark because of having to re-evaluate that Carter foul and having to bow to less illegal play and future scrutiny. The USA Olympic team principals, players and org hate her and her fans. Sponsors and fans (more pro CC than con CC) and WNBA money men love her. We are like Taylor Swift's fans and that is hated and the fans are hated. The sun provides warmth and life to Earth. You can't live without it and you don't dare stare at it. CC is the sun. The WNBA loves the warmth of the new money but hates looking at CC. There is a constant battle between the sun's implosion due to gravity and its inflation due to nuclear forces. The sun will be balanced and burn eight billion more years, let's hope CC can make it eight months or eight years. Let's see if the WNBA can find a balance between the imploding and exploding forces. I am out as soon as the WNBA eclipses this enthusiastic, kind, hard working bright light.

Caitlyn has been going strong for so long. She knows she should be on the team. We know the games being played , the jealous and hate. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise? LEt them go , probably get booed , maybe even lose , while she regroups, charges her batteries, takes a little time off for herself and time with family. She is young and can always play in 4 years. Sure, it sucks she couldn't mark on her belt, that bucket list item maybe even setting a record by how many she could compete in but at this point, with all the crap, she should focus on her health and well being. We are in really pathetic times , very sad what this country has become and these generations of so called " pros" not only in her situation but also on the male side.
Depriving CC this well earned opportunity in 2024 is not a blessing in disguise. It is a lost chance CC would never get back. A deserved spot she was snubbed for, and a sad and painful lesson in how others make decisions regarding her.
I do hold out a small hope that Plum will speak up and acknowledge she cannot play and CC will make the team. That is a viable possibility.
