Also find out whether you prefer the North or the South Island ski at Ski Season in New Zealand: North Island or South Island?, as well as working on a ski field at What it is Like to Work on a New Zealand Ski Field.

    You need to do more research on the fields before creating a video on them... Whakapapa and TC are mentioned twice in this video, the second TC mention shows the cardrona ski field.

    Really ? You mentioned Whakapapa and Treble Cone twice in that video and said Whakapapa is the only Nth Island ski field when you had already mentioned Turoa ( which is a ski field on the other side of Mt Ruapehu. Mt is short for Mount which is short for mountain so should be pronounced as "mount" also learn how to pronounce the Maori name Whakapapa and the names of the lakes before posting. Do your research!! I live in New Zealand born and bred here

    Mt is pronounced Mount as in Mt Hutt. Wh has the same pronunciation as ph for phone. Whakapapa.

    Do the ski areas receive avalanches?

    • @thewestfalian
      @thewestfalian Před 9 měsíci

      Yes, NZ is actually notorious for it's avalanches since all ski fields are above the tree line and most have some quite steep terrain. But they do avalanche control obviously. So as long as you stay inbounds and take closures seriously it's relativly save. But if you go to the club flields (the non commercial ski areas) you should take avalanche gear anyway.

    As usual the Americans have got it all wrong. Inaccurate data and terrible name pronunciation. Not much research done here. First 30 secs shows American tree covered slopes, not NZ slopes.
