    LOL Aspen #1? Lake Louise in Alberta Canada is regularly ranked as the most beautiful ski resort in North America. Sunshine Village in Alberta Canada is highly ranked too. Where is Zermatt or St Anton?

      I was thinking the same thing. I especially like Sunshine because the gondola takes you deep in the backcountry on the great divide so all you see is beautiful mountains and not a road or highway in site.

      He wasn’t even arguing about beauty and was instead bringing up arguments like trails, difficulty, FIS, and more. If that was the case then he chose the wrong Colorado resort as Vail-Beaver Creek beats out Aspen-Snowmas in most of those aspects and is also in the white river National forest. This guy obviously hasn’t skied much or put much effort into this video.

I have to say snowbird was hands down the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen with my eyes. What are some must go to resorts in the U.S (excluding the west as far as California goes), I am much more interested in heading East.

      @Janitor Queen Thanks for your comments. I went last February. Local people said things similar to what you wrote. However, it turned out that Lake Louise had better snow than Sunshine when I went, and the locals agreed. So it varies. Also, Lake Louise base is indeed lower than Sunshine Village, but about the same altitude as Sunshine base, and Sunshine base did not have good snow. All four main Alberta ski hills (Sunshine, Lake Louise, Norquay, Marmot basin) have a base near 1700 m. This year Marmot basin had fantastic snow, much better than normal according to local people, and I had great snow there.

    For beauty, comparing the Rockies to the Alps is like comparing spray paint to the Mona Lisa. Zermatt, Chamonix, Les Tois Vallees, Verbier, Les Arc, etc blow away anything in the US. Only US resort that can even bementioned is Jackson Hole. For snow, the dry powder in Utah is probably the best in the world.

      Being American it hurts to agree about the beauty. I certainly would never include Vail because it is so planned and prepackaged. I would also place Breck over Jackson; both are authentic western towns but Breck the town is at the base while Jackson is 20 minutes away. Never skied the Alps, though. Really want to. Now that I have the time and money travel to Europe seems like a bet these days. And totally agree about Utah powder; skied at Alta once during a dump and it was insane.

    Overall an interesting video, but it seems to mix "beautiful resorts" with "best ski resorts". Wengen and Saas-Fee are beautiful, but for ski there are many better resorts in Switzerland (Zermatt, St-Moritz and Verbier to name but a few). Only one Austrian resort? What about St-Anton, Soelden, Kitzbuehl? Park City has "Alpine beauty"? Not at all, Utah's scenery is as different as Venus is from Mars when compared to the Alps. Nice to include resorts in Finland, Argentina and Australia, but none of these should seriously figure in any top 100 in the world. On your list, the only ones deserving both beauty and skiing quality are Whistler, Courchevel and Val d'Isere, and maybe, just maybe Cortina. The rest is either beautiful but not great to ski (Megeve for example) or great to ski but not beautiful (Aspen, Vail).

  • @MrMywildside
    @MrMywildside Před 2 lety +2

    Currently being from Utah, Alta and Snowbird are better than Park City. They get better quality snow and more of it. Little Cottonwood Canyon where they’re located is a magnet for the deep powder. Plus the terrain is better for cheaper prices.

    At Saas Fee +/- 20 years ago, was talking to a German teen, who faced the glaciated wall on my right (behind my head as I talked). I watched his eyes "explode" with no clue why, then heard the most incredible "WHOOOOOM!" ~ turned and saw a geyser(!) of snow:
    I'd missed (his words) a chunk of blue ice "larger than a school bus" had cracked off the glacier, fell into the snow 400m away, and disappeared(!!!) ~ I missed the show.
    Also took the funniest fall there ~ doing huge Super-G turns on a piste two football fields wide, me and another German collided (him = same rhythm), but only our inside boots collided, and we each knocked off the other's inside ski!
    We slid about 200m ~ side by side, laughing... "Du bist okay?"
    "Ja, ich bin okay..."

      honestly, other parks like brighton and snowbird in utah are a far better option. good parks, night skiing, and a far cheaper price can easily be more preferred to than a “great view”. i went to brighton recently in march and there was still about 100 inches of snow on any part of the mountain. and for my first time ever seeing the rockies, the drive to brighton from downtown salt lake was one of the most breathtaking drives of my life. and before i even decided on brighton, my sister recommended i should go to vail, so i checked the prices. definately not worth it if you don’t have any snow gear. and almost $500 for a single day lift ticket is literally theft. and my only problem with brighton was there wasn’t a village (technically) next to the mountain. but was some of the most fun snowboarding i ever experienced, and i barely even touched stuff past the beginner trails.
