I'm a 55 year old African American man, I've watched 100's of comedians from Cosby, Dick Gregory, Prior, and Dave Chappelle. The common denominator is most of the greats eventually become black activist, Godfrey is definitely headed down the same path. To some it may come off as racism, but this is the voice of black pain.
I agree wholeheartedly. He was on Karen Hunter's show on SiriusXM and he spoke about crime in black community. What he said was so on point that I was blown away. I wish Karen Hunter would release that clip. It was powerful.
Idk about that. Can you tell me a famous mainstream black comedian that never had khoonish material or self deprecated/ridiculed black people? Chapelle, Rock, Murphy, Williams all considered "greats" by some people, all made their careers on how stupid/ghetto/superstitious/loud/etc black people are. Mooney, Gregory, Wallace etc for sure made jokes about us but they also were staunch defenders of black people whereas the mainstream darlings don't, they're not activists.

I’ve scoured CZcams to watch all of his old stand up shows back when he was doing 10 minute sets at Caroline’s and a bunch of underground clubs. At the beginning of the pandemic, I bought a ticket to see an online comedy show with Godfrey. It was a hot mess with his opening acts and technical glitches. Then I received a message that I was invited to the Green Room afterward. And Godrey zoomed with his guests and it was error-free and hilarious.
Godfrey is one of the smartest and funniest comics who is overlooked. I learn something new every time this brother speaks and he's always hilarious.
