#Musketball #The2904 #CannonballRun - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Ed, co-driving this run with you and Dan was the best time I’ve ever had in a car (and I’ve had some really good times in cars :)! Our Musketball was truly one of the high points of my life.
I gotta get in on this one day. Even unofficially ....
how much road head did you give 😂
Can't wait to watch your video on this.
Who won? And what was the time? 😂
I can only imagine, seems like a wildly fun trio to roadtrip with!!!
Ed seems like the type of guy that switches chairs to ask himself questions
Hahahaha
Definitely
Brother 😅
Greatest comment on vinWIKI EVER
I just pictured that taking place in this video and lost it laughing 😂
I was lucky enough to be able accept the last-minute offer to take a seat in his Cannonball Audi. Bucket list drive! Deep and sincere thanks to the entire Cannonball community!
“We didn’t care how long this car lasted” are words uttered by every person that jumps in a rental 😂
I don’t know, I’m pretty partial to the school bus being the coolest car, or the insanity of the micro medic
What time did the bus do it in? What up freddy or jarred.
@@GRAZINGARIZONA upcoming wrench every day video on the event! It was under 40 hours.
I thought that micro medic was pretty cool looking.
It was at the very least, the best vehicle to go out in Saturday night. Just mind the pole
I wish there was more footage of the "Rally Bus" and the "Micro-blance" as well!
As part of the Citroën team, I'm surprised the car even made it and then made the drive back across the country. I full blame Waze for Ed beating us lol
Shout out some big love from Europe to you guys out-there in Citroen XM team.. ;0)
I'm not surprised the XM made it. But then again, I've got quite the expierence with dailying them... 1000km a week for a couple months. And the 2.0 liters especially are tough, I own one with 550k kms on the odometer.
the least powerfull Citroën XM has more than 100hp, but the hydropneumatic power everything sucks a great deal. I bet it was the most confortable ride of the event! :D
@@jmbpinto73 That's not what the dynamic said. 85hp with a fresh tune up.
Let’s take a minute to give a shout out to the Kia.
Should post the ticket to Ed so he can frame it for the vinwiki corner.
Pitts s1?
“You don’t need a Good Time, to have a Great Time”. I love that statement. I’ve run laps back and forth across this incredible country of ours but, as a younger Man in an 18 Wheeler. I plan to take 6 months out and back in a small camper home in a few years upon early retirement.
You know the video's good when Ed himself is telling the story
It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow
"And there were a lot of very attractive rates for one-way rentals into California because I can only assume over the past couple of years there have been a lot of one-way rentals out of California."
Best line in here by far 😂
Came at us fast and I almost choked on my whiskey… good burn in both cases
Whoever came with "musketball" is a genius.
Can’t wait already starts out good with cvt talk
That blue fiat with the wing and race livery i actually saw and tried to contact on cb. Thing looks awesome. I was on my way back from California on i10 in Arizona. I love seeing stuff like this, it breaks up the boring part of hauling a load from coast to coast every week.
Lol someone ate a ticket for Ed that’s legendary
Driving slow cars fast is Fun! I remember in 03-04 the Murano came out and going to Nissan Headquarters seeing bays full of blown CVT's at the same time Isuzu had two bays at our dealer full of short blocks from ring issues on the 3.5. Commenting off the opening line haha Love your content!
Slow car fast is the best! My Honda Fit agrees 👍
This was the most fun I’ve had in a long time. Thanks Ed.
It's a great feeling when your daily is much too powerful (170hp)for a form of motorsports. Doesnt happen often, so you have to celebrate the win without reading the fine print.
I got very excited at 6:54 in the video. Thought it was a Cavalier station wagon at first. I was one of the proud owners of Wagonstein. A 1991 Chevy Cavalier station wagon that was slightly modified with a turbocharged 3.1L V6 and a 5 speed manual transmission. It has been 15 years since I owned it. But alas, that appears to be a Chevy Celebrity station wagon. Good times!!!
This was so much fun! It was a pleasure meeting and running with you!
I like the 100hp limit. Next time I think fuel cells should be outlawed. Make it something like a 12 gallon or 50 liter limit.
Considering how many low-power cars still come with gas tanks over 12 gallons (my old Focus, for example, held almost 14gal.), that might be too much of a limit...agreed on the "no fuel cells", though!
16 gallon limit would be best
If you can't go fast with 90hp, 900hp won't help you. - Bob Hall, Father of the MX-5 Miata.
108 MPH is still quite impressive for 100 HP car, since most of them are usually geared for torque, not speed.
i managed to do slightly over 180 km/h (roughly 112 MPH) in a 100hp diesel Touran, but that required a near empty highway in a country where every radar is announced with a sign
@@kitsuneneko2567 I did too, but I can't imagine doing it constantly for hours.
I’ve got a 1.4 Vauxhall Corsa with 88hp and I managed 115 on my Speedo (109 on waze)
I love how your keeping this great tradition going and educating a new generation on this events storied past. This is definitely a bucket list item for me and I got you to thank Ed🤙🏻
I will definitely be doing one of these cannonball runs as well! Would be cool to do a "Mullet" run in 80's sports cars, as I have an 88 Supra Targa top 😂 gotta rock a mullet wig tho!
@@josiahhein6036, I second this idea! Would it be cheating to bring my 1991 Supra Turbo Targa?
@@nickf5917, absolutely not, my dude! My car is a built (being built) turbo car! Stuck with the 7mgte even! Love the sound with 272's!
The most extraordinary thing in this whole story is that an XM of all things managed to go at full blast across the US continent, must have had one hell of a going thru before that, :D Awesome as they are they are not really known for their reliability...to put it mildly. Great to see one on US roads however.
I would love to see a pre-1990’s cars cannonball run
I'll second that proposition. I want to run my '85 Tempo GL 4 door 5 Speed, rated at a measly 86 HP but gave me 55mpg last I drove it. Never really knew how fast I was driving it as the speedometer goes to 85mph but I drove it the first time ever at age 15 on a trip to St. George from just North of SLC and while my sister was passed out asleep I had the needle pegged for at least 45 minutes until I hit a spot in the freeway that had us catching air a few times over some slight elevation changes and my sister woke up freaking out😂, "SLOW DOWN!!!" she took over again at the next exit and the newly bought car with newly bought dealer installed a/c promptly blew out in Beaver Utah in 102° weather and it SUCKED THE REST OF THE DRIVE!
I got to catch the live stream. That was alot of funny to see a bit of the inside to one of these rallies. The shootgun start was to funny. Chris was driving the wheels of that car. :) glad everyone made it there safely.
Ed always knocks it out of the park at story time.
I was sad that i couldnt make it to the run in person, but elated that i made it in full sized cardboard cut out lol
No cap, I think Ed and Chris have the best Vinwiki stories.
I love that you got up on a dumpster Ed…………like you’re not 7’7” already!! Lol
Its a cannonball tradition started by Brock in 79
Was waiting for the update on this ...really excited to hear stories from other participants (Chris) and John
You've got to love a guy who can do 17:02 in one sentence. Like Frank Sinatra, I'm not sure I even caught him sneaking a breath.
For anyone interested, the British licence plates behind Ed are from a yellow McLaren F1. In the UK you can check it through our version of the DMV.
I miss my 1992 Mazda 323 with an 82 hp engine. It was fun to drive with the wider tires I put on it (175 Pirellis to replace the stock 155).
I did not realize how often the SL or I was around while you filmed lol. Great video. You don't have to have a good time to have a great time. 👍 It was great to spend time with old friends and make a few new ones. Here's to the next 50 years of cannonball.
You gotta be kidding me on how good this story is, structurally and performative
Ed always delivers , he is fuel by passion and love and it comes across in his stories .
A great storyteller with a great voice!
Woa! 1979 VW Dasher and 1981 Mazda GLC Wagon over here wanting to roadtrip! "We have 99 horses (combined) but torque ain't none! Shift me!!"
Thanks Ed I needed a good ol car story!!
Drove one of those Corollas from Toronto to Alabama and back two years ago during Canadian Thanksgiving. It was a wild ride - but fuel economy was great (better than what Ed mentioned) and it was cheaper than any flight tickets at that time :P
I do have some Citroen XM experience (my family has had 4) and my first car was a hand me down XM. The diesels 2.1 and 2.5 ran out of go at 4k rpm and 175kph on the speedo, my dad might not have been happy when I admited to this years later. I never had them checked on gps, great comfortable cruisers though the one I had was a Wagon so super spacious. That said got about 40mpg in that wagon that fit 4 widw(not legal) in the back.
The Fiat 500 in the '60s Gulf racing livery was a truly inspired deco choice.
I'd love to see/hear their perspective during the Musketball. =)
A 100hp car with no fuel cell and they still clocked 33 hrs 35 mins. Amazing.
I could never afford a proper Cannonball attempt that would come anywhere close to threatening the record but I've had fantasies about participating in exactly this kind of regular car, low cost event for us regular Joes. I'd love to try it in my 2002 Saturn SL2 that has 262k miles on it. It's been my daily driver for almost 18 years and it still runs great and is fun to drive. I've had it over 90mph a couple of times in the last year. I did my own Seattle to Salt Lake City to Missoula to Seattle loop this summer while on vacation to see friends and had a blast in the states with higher speed limits. The whole trip was 1830 miles, with a day trip from Twin Falls to Sun Valley and back that added 167 miles, so about 2000 miles total. I was at 85mph+ for long stretches and my car did great, although the effort did finally push my original, nearly 22-year-old catalytic converter off the cliff on that trip and I had to get it replaced while in Twin Falls. :)
I feel like my 5speed 2000 honda insight would have been perfect for this. 73hp, 70mpg highway (if you baby it), unassuming looks, and a quiet cabin.
Edit: I spoke too soon, someone else had the same idea 6:45
I have to do this one time. I was actually thinking about the Corolla when I first heard of the race. Either that or running my NA Miata solo with a fuel cell
I love the fact that Ed prays for safety over the group before heading out! I'm glad you all had a great time!
mans with the organ transport box is a beast ahahaha 🤣🤣
FIND THE KIA MAN!!! 🤣
I can't even imagine how fun it would be to be the third in a coast-to-coast run with Ed and Christopher!
Fun fact, a friend of mine used to work at The Shop CT. The worked on my STI too, but it’s a wild shop. They do some real good work.
Managed to just barely keep up with the Corolla crew for just a few miles in the 69whp Cappuccino. Had a blast just tagging along for a short time!
When is Ed going to start narrating documentaries? He and Rabbit are superb just to listen to.
I need more pictures of that micro van done up like the one in the movie!!!!
*Your recount of the event has placed us Subs riding along with your team in this hilariously adventurous excursion. I eagerly anticipate your next expedition.*
*FWIW, perhaps a C2C EV Challenge? This could prove or dismiss the viability of EV's on a practical basis.*
*Furthermore, this concept could be directed to PHEV, and Alt Fueled vehicles, such as LPG, CNG, LNG and Hydrogen. As such, the teams are forced to do their due diligence in route planning for fuel stops.*
*Just my 2¢ worth*
Citroën XM 😍
3:58 is that a teal saturn I see👀
"...went to college with my mother..."
And now that you think about it bears a striking resemblance?
When I get my Mazda B2000 running, I'd love to join in on that Musketball run some time. The engine is rated at 120 hp at the crank, so I think that I'm good there.
I had my r32 GTR tuned at the shop ct years ago. Good shop!
Always wanted to do this run in a 90hp car.
Chris' wrist wear is also a bad ass tool. Fashion that screams don't worry man, we can find a way home.
Ed, thank you for the videos brother!!
Can't wait to hear the inevitable stories to come out of the pending 1 lap Ed!
In February, I bought a 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage G4. I made sure to buy one with a manual transmission. I have since put 45,000 miles on it. And it hasn't given me any problems. I average 46 mpg and use it for Uber. Great in the snow and got weather. With 78 hp I never thought I'd enjoy this car as much as I do. I don't think it would have made it this gar with a CVT
Great video as always. If there's a next time, I'd love to resurrect team Flying Hellfish with Pierce and have another go at it in the 240 Volvo wagon. 🙂
Man this would be so much fun
This seems like my cup of tea. I mean it's most of my vehicles to date. Juice worth the squeeze for sure
18 minutes of talking and I don't think Ed took a single breath...
I did something similar. A buddy and I in a 20 years old 115hp shitebox, 534 miles in 6.2 hours, average speed 83mph. It was very very fun!
I was literally about to comment about the Citroën XM, I love how they look. Bertone nailed it
Now I wonder if there's any events going from Hammerfest in the Arctic to Algeciras at the Street of Gibraltar.
5400 km, all road, no border checks.
That looks like a good time honestly. Cheap cars can be a lot of fun lol
Love yall and the channel content, esp w lehto,
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thank you KIA! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I own a honda hrv with a cvt and I have a scangage2 and know hot my cvt gets if I push it at all and I'm very surprised that cvt made it without overheating or major problems...
So like, where do you find information on this rally? I live in CT would love to join one, got plenty of sub-100hp cars at my disposal.
Ed are you involved with the car museum opening in Cartersville?
I’d love to participate in another one of these!
I wish I could’ve done this in my Tercel. I hope you guys do it again
Does anyone have more pictures of the Hawaiian tropic car. It almost looks original. I'm building a replica and would really love some good pictures
🤣🤣 human organ ... that's awesome! I really want to run 1 of these some time. Would love it if it was in my car but even riding along would be amazing! Maybe 1 day. I remember watching The Cannonball Run movie as a child but I never realized that it was an actual thing or I would've participated a long time ago.
This is just a professional PSA for the legitimacy of slow-car-fast
My first car was a outback and it had a CVT and blew up at like 110k miles
Cvt loss yup. Some days the brand new suburu is decent for pick up. Other days it’s like what am I towing that I’m not aware of😫😂
Lansing Michigan for the win! It's crazy to think such a gem of a car was right here in my little ass city... Super cool story!
You don’t need a good time to have a great time. Some useful words right there. In many ways
Only one that u should buy with cvt has a ghost badge and cost around 4 million dollars
My father had 2 XM, a 2.0l and a 2.1 turbo diesel. The ride was great in them, engines were strongs, but electronic is what kills that car
Great story ed!
Love that white Volvo 240!
I'd totally race an '85 Ford Tempo or a '95 Kia Sephia in a race like that.
Cross country with Christopher Michaels, that’s got the potential to get interesting.
Suggestions. 1984 dodge colt turbo. Great mpg light and 102 bhp. So like 80whp but a little backyard hack gets you to 100 or shhh a little more.
Suzuki swift gti. Same as above.
what a Great story, Until this video I had NO idea that Cannonball was a real thing not just a movie, I guess I got some binge watching and learning on You Tube to do LOL Thank you :)
I drive 86HP from Serbia, to Russia, Finland, Sweden, Germany and back to Serbia. It did 170 on Autobahn. Next year I drove 68HP to Mt. Vesuvius and back home.
Was that “ klines corners “ in New Mexico East of Albuquerque?
I have a mk4 TDI sounds like a blast
freaking ALH TDI powered Honda Insight? damn!
I love these stories
At 90hp a sail might helpful if the wind is at your back 😆
Ahh yes, the ole Organ Transport excuse. 🤣
