- On May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion, the head of the Jewish Agency, proclaimed the establishment of the State of Israel. U.S. President Harry S. Truman recognized the new nation on the same day. Made in the early 1950s, ISRAEL REBORN traces the creation of the modern state of Israel and touches on the tumult that followed. At :46, the Arab opposition to the creation of Israel is seen. At 1:00, Jews in TelAviv, and David Ben-Gurion, are seen proclaiming an independent Jewish state. At 1:20, Jews are seen praying at the Western Wall. At 1:36, Ben-Gurion and Golda Meir are seen leaving the hall where the declaration of Independence was signed. At 2:00, the United States recognizes the new state of Israel at the United Nations. At 2:18, celebrations are seen on May 14th in the USA as friends of Israel dance in the streets. At 2:35, celebrations are seen outside of the British Colonial Office. At 2:50, internees at Cypress who escaped the German Concentration Camps are seen learning the news about the founding of Israel. At 3:17, ships are seen departing Europe bound for the new state of Israel at Haifa. The Exodus continues through 4:30. At 4:30, Israel is shown under attack by the Arab league, with Jerusalem's water cut off by Jordan's army. At 5:00, war breaks out as the Arabs assault Jerusalem. At 5:30, a wrecked ambulance is shown and survivors of attack seen evacuated. Scrolls are rescued from burning synagogues at 5:40. At 5:56, King Abdullah of Jordan is seen. At 6:20, combat continues in the Old City. At 6:47, the King visits Jerusalem during the siege. At 7:17, the Israelis are seen in training, moving from being the Haganah underground striking force to a real army with commando forces known as the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). At 8:30, tanks and armored cars start to roll through the streets. An armored school bus is seen, and a mine field. The narrator marvels at the fact that Israel has managed to succeed and rout Arab armies in the face of overwhelming odds.

The Bible records how that land came to be given to the Jewish people. More than once the disobedience of the Hebrew nation has lost them that land, though it was always restored by God eventually. In 1948 we see the most recent time that their land was given back. I'm glad to see they are taking good care of it. Next, they need to return their hearts to the God who blest them with their homeland again. (I never understood a Jewish atheist or agnostic. Isn't that a major oxymoron?)
The aggressor nations need to take note: God says, and He has always shown, that those who bless Israel will be blest. Those who are against Israel will suffer for it. The U.S. is still in the running, though Obama tried to destroy us and them. Let us always support Israel, and the stronger the better!
