    Aris is a good example. Nobody decides that you can't have breaks but you. Set rules and be consistent in following them, and viewers respect and appreciate them. Nobody says "Aris! Don't take a break!", they say "break time" every hour.

    I think ZeRo’s mentality is what’s really unhealthy and not streaming. If he saw that he’d be able to fix these issues fairly quickly.

      For real, do any job it 14 hours a day and you will burn out fast.

    This is why I love Sajam and his content. Because it's always something new or interesting. His perspective and over all honesty make subjects that I know very little or not at all about all the more intriguing.

    Taking breaks might lose you viewers and money, but what's much more valuable is your motivation. If you stop streaming you're not going to be making any money

    • @jy61
      @jy61 Před 4 lety +2

      Yeah, it's like Zero doesn't realize people who work "normal" jobs could also make more money by working longer hours, but don't.

    Edit: I feel like you have to know when to stop and relax; and not worry about the overall result of the product if you’re putting in full effect

    Sajam, you are wise beyond your years. You're becoming a great father to the community. I don't stream for anything but fun, but I will remember these words if I ever take it seriously

  • @blmas
    @blmas Před 4 lety +6

    This goes deeper into just general understanding of how finances/living vs. working that I feel many folks in the streaming community don’t fully understand. Your average person that’s been working a normal 9 to 5, or 12 hour shift wish they could make that kind of money(and would have the better experience/understanding to do it).
    Then vice versa freelancing can be super rewarding, but extremely frustrating even when the money is there; which ends up being mostly in the freelancers control. Ultimately I feel these folks still aren’t mature enough to understand how a healthy work environment actually operates.
    Awesome advice Sajam!

    Devin Nash did a great video about this when ninja left twitch for mixer. Current streaming practices are not something you'd want/be able to do in your 30s. There's other ways to engage with your audience outside of streaming. Cut the stream down in half and find other uses for your time or ways to grow your presence.

    You are spot on and everything you said applies to any kind of freelancer / person who is their own boss, essentially. Pushing yourself for the money is just very rarely worth it, if ever. Do what you enjoy only for as long as you enjoy it and the rest will fall into place.
    On a side note, I will admit I actually have never seen your stream, but for me personally, out of all the videos you upload, I find the ones where you are just talking about life most enjoyable. That's not at all meant to say that the analysis videos are not good, they're great, but you're a naturally good speaker and genuinely seem like a cool, down to earth guy that's just easy to listen to.

  • @Henrychoimusic
    @Henrychoimusic Před 4 lety +13

    I feel like there are zero streamers that calculate the subs per hour that they get and try to analyze to optimize their streaming strats.

  • @VincentLee12
    @VincentLee12 Před 4 lety

    I think pretty much everything you said regarding burnout and self management is bang on. I think the problem for zero specifically is that self management is not his strong suit. I think this is evident in most of his tweet rants, such as the "therapy is useless" one recently. He's a very ambitious person who absorbs himself completely in whatever his passion is at the moment (smash 4, streaming, eating, etc). And has yet to find a self management method that works for him, which leads to bad mental health and tweet rants like the one you're analyzing here and countless others that are typically half baked. He tends to generalize things based on his experience alone, and that leads to some poor conclusions.

    I like this seminars. Thats why im very happy I ran into youtubers and streamers with this same mindset(example everyone knows is Aris) but another streamer that is a real hidden gem is TheBlackHokage. He really sets a firm rule that if he doesn't feel like streaming, then he is not gonna stream. Imagine letting a 14 year old determine how you should make money. Along with Aris seminars regarding twitch.
    I feel A L O T of people far away from gaming culture see twitch as an escape platform to make a living, and when they need a pamphlet of how they should start or how they should be, they follow the wrong top streamers where "Everyone a family, and we should have movie nights in discord and meetup at twitchcon), then people wonder why they start to get depressed and burnout. Same as these instagram models who started a revelation in young girls to that, if they don't want to take the hard complicated route of not knowing what they want to do in life, you can lead toward posting body pics. But then when its time to talk business with sponsers, imagine having 100 million followers on your social media of being a so&so "influencer" and not being able to sell one t-shirt.

  • @Memanruler
    @Memanruler Před 4 lety +5

    As an example, I watch Vinesauce stream about every night, he streams for about 3-4 with a 4-5 minute break about every 3rd of the stream and his view count will maintain parity with his overall stream.
    I think it might be harder for non variety Streamers to feel like they should get more structured schedules is that they tend to attract rapid audiences who consume as much content as they can and there is a major dropoff when that consumption is disturbed.

    • @SupermanSajam
      @SupermanSajam  Před 4 lety

      Yeah when I run my ads, I don't find that my view count really suffers at all. People watching need a break too, and when your stream has that consistent structure they know what to expect.

    This is a good life lesson for everyone, not just streamers. You can take a job working 60 hours a week and make a tonne of money, but if you're burned out and have no time to enjoy it, what's the point? Work for what you need and want and take the rest of the time off.

    Good on you. I grew up working 22 hour days on the farm and a lot of those nights we didn't sleep. I kept that mentality with my for a long time and at risk of my family calling me a pussy I am a lot more productive sleeping ten hours a day. Especially with things that require your intelligence it's better to treat yourself as best as possible and use even 4-5 hours productively (even better if you take an hour break between each hour of work). It's all about efficiency and quality. You won't get that if you force it.
