  • Basslines can often be the fundamental of every track´s groove and body. In this video Jonas is diving into the creation behind electronic music most influential styles and breaking down how to produce basslines for House, Techno, Electro and Post-Dubstep.

    How is the groove made in the intro section? Weird noises and crackles, also a very nice smoothe groove. This would be a intresting topic?! :) danke jonas

      might be doing something similar on drums. it was mostly done with samples running through my modular and replace thinks you would aspect it to be in the groove, lets say a kick or a shuffled hat with noise/cracks and modulation them. Ive used Data Bender a lot actually. Cheers :)

    Curious about the intro tune, what synth did you use for the bassline? Also is it a released track? It sounds great!

    the ms-20 mini recreates the original korg 35 filter which is very noisy- so they’re all like that
    the full-size reissue allows you to choose between the original and later filter types (the latter being much less noisy at the expense of what may be considered some of the ms-20’s signature character)

    • @fuzzjohn
      @fuzzjohn Před rokem +4

      The original Korg 35 filters weren't actually that noisy, it's just that in the reissues they found it difficult to recreate it accurately with modern components without the noise. Here is an excerpt from a Sound on Sound article about the Korg MS-20 Kit reissue where they published a response from Korg about the issue:
      "There was, however, one thing that concerned me. The background noise generated by the Kit when in Korg35 mode was considerably higher than the noise generated by either of the vintage synths and, with just VCO1 generating a triangle wave, the mixer set to around '5' and the filters wide open, it was as loud as the wanted signal. Interestingly, the noise level in OTA mode was almost negligible. So I contacted Korg, and received an explanation from the General Manager of the Product Planning Department in Tokyo confirming my findings. He explained that the signal/noise ratio in Korg35 mode could have been improved, either by changing the transistors in the filter or by increasing the output levels of the oscillators, but when his engineers tried the first of these, they were unable to find alternative components that reduced the noise while retaining the sound of the original. The second approach was dismissed because the filter input level has a significant effect on the timbre, and making this 'hotter' would have changed the sound of the synth. In his words, "We faced a hard‑to‑decide trade‑off, and in the end we chose to prioritise the sound of the filter. Replicating the sound characteristics of one of the most iconic synthesizers in music history was our prime focus.” Fortunately, the noise isn't a problem with louder patches (for example, using square or sawtooth waves with higher mixer settings), but you may want to stick to the OTA filter for gentler sounds."
      Not sure if I can post links but search for "korg-ms20-kit" and it should be easy to find the article.

      My FS is not as noisy as I remember the mini to be, I think they might have improved on the mini's design a bit.

    @gorangabriel7162 Před rokem +1

    isn’t the sub off the sh01a the same oscillator as the main square/triangle just an octave or two down depending on the little switch next to it?

    • @preservedjams4109
      @preservedjams4109 Před rokem +1

      Yes, that’s what subs oscillators were in the old days - the waves of the main oscillators were divided down to give phase locked copies that are an octave lower. It was a simple way to beef up the sound.
      Quite different to the modern use of “sub” which usually refers to a sine wave that’s used to reinforce the bass

    • @XanderEwald
      @XanderEwald Před rokem

      To be fair, this is a bit of an "unusual" use of the MS-20. With the wildly distorted and gritty sounds it is often associated with, the noise does not really matter that much.
