How to Make Sun Tea - 30 Year Old Recipe - Mint Sun Tea - Only Recipe You Ever Need

- Sun Tea and Mint Tea is so easy to make with only a few ingredients. Yes I have been using this recipe for 30 years. It is the only sun tea, sweet tea recipe you will ever need. I grow my own mint and this is a true summer time favorite of mine. But it can be made all times of year, you just need some sun. If you don't have mint or don't like the taste of mint tea, just skip the mint and put some lemons in there instead.
Hope you enjoy and if you have your own sun tea recipe comment below.

Sun tea is one of the delights of Summer. My recipe is pretty similar to yours. 😊
Edit: some people express concerns about how food-safe sun tea is. There is an easy fix to that. Use a heat-proof container. Pour in boiling water, close, allow to cool. Then add your ingredients and allow to steep. People who are concerned might also consider the use of a no-rinse sanitiser like StarSan.
When I used to live in developing countries we always boiled our drinking water. Once boiled it would go into heatproof bottles that were sealed. Those would be allowed to cool on the countertop and stashed in the fridge for when we wanted cold water. That water was, in essence, sterile. The only added potential source of bacterial contamination would the, be the teabags, sugar and mint.
Sugar: pretty much ‘sucks’ any moisture out of bacteria via osmosis. So granulated/undissolved sugar is pretty safe.
Water: see above. Boil it, add into a heatproof, sanitised and sealable container. Seal. Allow to cool. You’re good to go.
Tea bags: fresh out of the box it’s pretty safe.
Mint: when in doubt, swish through sanitiser. If you want, rinse off the sanitiser with boiled cooled water. Add immediately.
This is what you CAN do to minimise risk. The main risk comes from what is called ‘bacterial load’, which essentially means “enough bacteria to colonise an environment and secrete enough toxins to make you sick”. The smaller the bacterial load (as in: the fewer bacteria in your preparation) and the more hostile the environment they end up in (for example an acidic environment is not conducive to infection by bacteria causing botulism), the safer you are.
An alternative to boiling water is to use commercially available bottled water and to use it from an unopened bottle. The production and bottling process used mean this water is pretty much sterile.
A whole lot of information for anyone who is worried. I typically don’t take those extreme measures but thought I’d throw them out there just in case someone is and wants to be as safe as possible.
So much great content and information Edda... thanks so much. 👍👍❤️❤️😄😄
Drinking it now👍👍👍👍
Love your videos! New to wine making and im excited to start my first batch

@@HowToDoneRight Roger that, I’ll be there! Thinking either a mead or mango wine for my first one just got all my supplies in today.
I’ve already done a few fruit wines with their recipe and I haven’t been disappointed yet!
How about more recipes for sun tea? I might try and make some
Thank You
Love this tea😅😅😅
My mother always put fresh mint in lemonade. If you haven't tried it you should, it's delicious.
Oh yeah that sounds delish.. I will try that one.

Tough to watch but thanks for the recipe!
I came because the thumbnail looks like it would be Hank Hill making sun tea. I stayed because it really is Hank Hill making sun tea!!!!
Don't know Hank Hill... but you found the best channel ever... lol.
Haha perfect!
How do the mint plants handle the midwest winters?
Very carefully. 😁
Was the wine bottle that have been sitting on the screen? The whole time added to it or no I didn’t see it.
Lol... no that was just a prop... but you might be onto something... wine tea. Lol
