    I own a 2022 G80 M3 comp xdrive and a 2023 RS3 8Y (both with all options ticked). The M3 is stock. The RS3 has an Eventuri + Stage 2 JB4. The RS3 wins 0-100 km/h and 100 - 200 km/h. Both cars run 290 km/h from the factory. I have only driven the new M2 once, but if i compare a stock M3 comp with a slighly tuned RS3, the RS3 wins the bang for the buck chapter by a huge margin (!) That said: BMW has a way better chasis, damping, comfort, road presence and prestige. Overall both cars are great. I do enjoy the RS3 more than i do enjoy the beamer.

    You could save 20 grand and get a B58 m240/340/440 with x drive, which is still a better engine than the one in the RS3, and since you’re tuning the RS3 you can tune those as well and probably make the same power if not more. They’d also be more plush rides since that was so important in this comparison, and they’d handle the wet much better, and their awd is actually rear biased unlike quattro, they sound better. So what does the RS3 win at vs the B58 cars? I just negated all your positives for the Audi convincingly.. So what did we learn? B58 M-lite>>>>tuned RS3 for 20 grand cheaper. Awesome!

    Hmm, I think this comparison wasn’t fair tbh. Different conditions when driving. Even the exhaust comparisons; one was a drive by, one was a camera directly above the exhaust. Furthermore, stage 1 the s58 engine and you’re looking at 580bhp. If you know how to drive a rwd, it is a lot quicker. As a point and shoot car, the rs3 is quicker, but I also think it gives a false sense of driver skill.

    A basic formula for a proper sports car ( i.e. same formula for the past 70 years) is to have 5 specific properties; 6 speed manual, rear wheel drive, coupe, plenty of power, and a suspension to die for. Might trade my B9 S4 for one, but the interior of the S4 is so much better that I’ll keep that as my daily until it reaches 100,000 miles. The S4 has done 60,000 miles so far with zero unscheduled maintenance, but I worry that no interesting ICE cars will be available by the time it gets to 100,000.

    An RS3 with the DAZA but pre OPF would be the only one I would have went for. This gen is really poor when compared with the much higher end looking M2. I'll be looking for a new car in the spring with around a 40k budget, was originally thinking about an RS3 but most of them have been modded/ragged to shit and are mostly bought by 30 somethings who can't look after them so I've already decided on a C7 RS6 which are usually owned by more mature/mechanically sympathetic owners who aren't afraid of spending what the car needs. I think the facelift 8V RS3 has a pretty active rear diff, but because it was just a facelift it didn't receive the hype of the new generation which was clearly designed to be marketed heavily on its ability to drift and oversteer to please journos who in turn would ignore the interior which 'normal' non-driftng folk care about. I am a VAG man but I wouldn't be if VW/Audi took the piss with interior quality back in the 90s and 00s, good interiors are a core brand value for a lot of VAG buyers

    RWD is better than 4WD - It's physics. (in terms of cornering and drivability)

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před 8 měsíci

      Not as simple as that, depends on front/rear AWD split, now much weight is in front, on top (or in case of 911) behind rear axle. Also how do you definite better? Like a journo better is how easy it is to oversteer? Or how much power/torque you can use without slip, especially in low grip conditions. I like to view cars from the eyes of a typical driver and I know very few can handle oversteer, you only have to look at all the crashes filmed when cars leave a car show and try and showboat for the camera

    • @petewigley9985
      @petewigley9985 Před 8 měsíci +1

      Torque vectoring 4 wheel drive still isn't as drivable as RWD. It is physics. Even with a limited slip diff or clutch etc. Audi''s Quattro got better, but it didn't and hasn't got rid of the understeer. (because they mount the Quattro system at the front of the engine, too far in front of the front axel).@@volkswizard So there you go! Physics! Plus turning having more grip on the front wheel for turning rather than for traction - Physics! (plus 4wd adds extra weight). So RWD in terms of 'cornering and drivability' is better!
      Bottomline - why would BMW make M3.40 xdrive only and give the M3 RWD functionality? Why would BMW do that? Do most M3 owners drive around in 4wd? No! You said 'Very few drivers can handle oversteer'. Nonesense - I must be a god then. (not really) Oversteer is preferred to understeer. There's nothing you can do about understeer. Oversteer you can turn out of. Would you rather a car where the front end turns in sharply or doesn't turn in at all? The latter is understeer! I recommend you drive a RWD car with a bit less power and 50/50 weight distribution like the BMW E46 M3, and then tell me AWD is better. (the older BMW hydraulic steering racks were better too, all the electric steering racks are numb and boring). All manufacturers went to electric racks, not because they are better. IMO the problem with the New M2, it's too heavy and the steering is rubbish (no feel). That's why you didn't get to feel at one with the car. It felt uncomfortable! Also try the Alfa Quadrafoglio RWD. Ferrari engine, Ferrari steering, light car for the size. (0.6 tonnes 25% lighter than the M2). Also most Ferrari's are still RWD.
