    It blows my mind that they were detected for the first time in 2019 and it took us (as humanity) only 4-5 years to figure out what they were. We were actually able to see a good and proper discovery happen, this is something that will definitely be put into textbooks (higher education I guess? Or maybe as a side note for high schools?), which is super cool IMO.
    Also - thank you Anton for uploading videos for us on the topic of ORCs as the process of figuring them out went on. It's extremely cool to "see it happen".

  • @barefootalien
    @barefootalien Před 7 měsíci

    Mmm... I'm not sure I buy this explanation.
    A couple of hypotheses to consider:
    1. Almost all galaxies in the universe have experienced collisions.
    2. Those collisions produce massive star formation that then produce many supernovae all at once, eventually creating ORCs.
    3. The ORCs we've discovered are a billion years old.
    4. The universe is 14 billion years old.
    Therefore, even if those billion-year-old ORCs fade completely from existence _tomorrow,_ still roughly one in fourteen galaxies in the universe should have evidence of them visible around them.
    Even lowering the estimate to account for galaxies that haven't had many collisions, shouldn't that mean we'd see tens of billions of ORCs all around us? Instead we've seen... six?
    This is something _much_ more uncommon than starburst after merger, IMO. Maybe it takes a certain rhythm to the supernovae, building up resonance or something, making it statistically unlikely, say, one in a billion chance. That'd make the numbers line up better.
    Edit: Hah. And like ten seconds after I unpaused after typing this, you said basically the same thing. xD

  • @mikefromspace
    @mikefromspace Před 7 měsíci +9

    Or in more detail; Riptides in the currents of space itself. They don't need galactic collisions. They just need to be intersections of particle rivers between galaxies. This will attract light gas from any galaxy along the river. This is why certain galaxy clusters don't make them. Galaxies depend on a constant supply of electron neutrinos! This was proven

    • @AllienKreature
      @AllienKreature Před 7 měsíci +3

      Yes I remember a paper on this about rivers of particles between galaxies. It certainly is clear they are eating something, or they would not be so evenly spaced. There's an obvious supply and demand thing

    This was solved before these phenomena were even discovered.
    This is the Synchrotron Radiation that would be most prominent at the Z-Pinch of the Birkeland Currents where galaxies are formed.
    That's just one of the benefits of viewing the universe through the lens of plasma physics and electromagnetics: It provides PREDICTIVE power. Something that the Standard Model can no longer do. The Standard Model consistently is "Surprised, Stunned, Baffled, Unexpected, etc."
    What we observe does not conform to the predictions of the Standard Model, and they must constantly rewrite their hypothesis to adjust the model to what we see.
    In Plasma Cosmology, the electromagnetic force and the electrodynamic influences on galactic objects makes gravity essentially irrelevant.
    But it's predictive power is unmatched. To Plasma Cosmologists, these observations are almost mundane. Of course there is a remanent of Synchrotron Radiation where a Z-pinch of a twisted pair of Birkeland Currents met, and out pops a galaxy. Duh.
